THURSDAY
Wednesday was a disappointing one with no success and well done to connections of LIGHTNING SPEAR who landed the Sussex Stakes.
-2.87 to SP
So lets look at Day Three which is of course Ladies Day where the feature race will be the Group 1 Nassau Stakes worth £600,000;
Going -- Good, Good to soft in places.
Weather -- Generally sunny, bit breezy and high 24C
2:25 Qatar Lillie Langtry Fillies' Stakes 1m 6f (Group 2).
A strong field of thirteen runners for the first group race today and it's a staying event for fillies and mares with over £170k to the winner up for grabs. GODS GIVEN has taken a G3 contest earlier then ran second beaten a short head by Hairspray in the Lancashire Oaks on that form will take all the beating here. (sorry for spelling mistake in name earlier)
Frankie Dettori is back from his ban to ride PRECIOUS RAMOTSWE and this filly is also worth a good look for the strong Gosden team.
Selections: GODS GIVEN [4th 5/2] // PRECIOUS RAMOTSWE [6th 9/2]
Where did you get that hat ... |
3:00 Qatar Richmond Stakes (Group 2).
A good quality event for the 2yo's here just the nine declared and hard to sum up some of these. LAND FORCE was good enough to run 3rd in the Norfolk stakes at Royal Ascot and probably carries the best form coming into this. MARIE'S DIAMOND went over to Ireland and won their Gr3 Anglesey Stakes and can step up here in Gr2 company.
Selections : LAND FORCE [WON 5/2] // MARIE'S DIAMOND [2nd 9/2]
3:35 1m 2f Nassau Stakes (Group 1).
Also labelled as the Fillies Group 1 today this has attracted 6 runners for ladies day and has a win pot of over £340k on offer. A race where WILD ILLUSION could pick up that ellusive win this season that she deserves, 4th in 1000 Guineas, runner up in the Oaks, runner up in the Ribblesdale this step back to 1m 2f could be the trick.
Both RHODODENDRON and VERACIOUS are talented but step up in trip and could be vulnerable.
Selection -- WILD ILLUSION [WON 4/1].
Add in three further top quality races and Friday of the Qatar Goodwood Festival has to be one of the most enthralling day's racing in the entire calendar.
