BRIGHTON RACECOURSE AUGUST SUMMER FESTIVAL -- DAY 3

TUESDAY 25th AUGUST 2015

Final day of this three day meeting, shame about the weather (typically Brighton in Summer) with more rain forecast which could change things but as we write this we are looking at Good to Soft going though unsure what non runners may occur.

We've a 7 race card for this Tuesday afternoon, the gates will be open from midday and the first race will get under way at 2:15pm.

Remember that children under 18 are being admitted FREE.

You still get good views of the parade ring, just behind the main stands here.

Go and have a good look at the runners and riders before the race ... hopefully if the rain and winds hold off.

Here's my selections for the card on Tuesday and we're keeping a running tally on any profit (or indeed loss) for the three days, very pleased to report that after the first 2 days we stand at +10.40 points in PROFIT;

2:15 5f 59y Nursery -- A field of 6 for the opening contest today, and a weak bunch they are looking for a low handicap mark for the future.

Certain that the likely fav will be Secret Clause [WON 3/1] on his 3rd at Southwell this is totally different and I will chance the lightweight FRED'S FILLY [2nd 16/1] in an uninspiring event.

2:45 5f 213y Handicap -- A race named in favour of the Injured Jockeys Fund and therefore we hope that there are no casualties here.

PICANSORT won here a couple of weeks ago, but on completely different ground and doesn't seem to be one to rely on to defy a penalty. At a better price is RORING SAMSON [4th 4/1] who ran well in defeat last time, was always up with the pace and that will be essential here too.

3:15 6f 209y Maiden -- Just the seven lining up next for a 2yo maiden event, those that have run haven't shown too much and only INVIGORATE has enough form for a handicap mark.

The only one of interest for me is the newcomer DUBAI IN BLOOM [5th 5/1] who wouldn't have to be awesome to take this on debut and should be noted in the market.

3:45 1m 3f 196y Handicap -- Small fields the order of the day it seems, just 6 for this handicap event for 3yo's. The likely fav is the bottom weight KNIGHT MUSIC [WON 15/8] who has a penalty for an 11 Length win at Kempton last time out. I can't see him getting that far ahead around here but opposition is difficult to call.

A winner here last time out CALLENDULA [N/R] has the experience over this trip and course and that advantage could be enough to give the fav plenty to do.

4:15 1m 1f 209y Handicap -- Seven in the line up for this handicap and a field of consistent horses albeit ones that will more likely Place than Win. OCEAN APPLAUSE [N/R] has a recent win on his penultimate start but with top weight of 10 stone will find it hard to repeat that I feel.

AINSLIE [3rd 10/11F] Won his race at Leicester last month and nearly followed that up at Wolves, in good heart and should be close.

4:45 7f 214y Fillies Handicap -- Another seven ladies for this event now and could be a quick double for David Simcock's yard with MAYBE NOW BABY [2nd 5/2] even though I think it's hard for a 3yo against older more experienced horses.

Of the older ones here it's STARLIGHT SYMPHONY [N/R] who might turn out again having been a close runner up at Bath on Saturday night.

5:15 6f 209y Handicap -- Only decent field of the day with 11 runners where FAIRY MIST [2nd 5/1] is the only real candidate with form to speak of and likely to get the trip ok but has the burden on top weight too.

KUANYAO [5th 16/1] has won 11 races in his career but at nine years is not getting any better, that said did come second here a couple of months back and this race / course might allow some return to form, he's a big price but maybe a place bet.

A small loss today of -2.125 points to SP not surprised there were a few NR's floating about too. But that loss has only made a small dent into our meetings profit, we have come out of the three days ahead +8.275 points to a level stake at SP.

GREAT VIEWS FROM THE SUSSEX DOWNS
