BRIGHTON RACECOURSE AUGUST SUMMER FESTIVAL -- DAY 2

MONDAY 24th AUGUST 2015

Day two of this three day meeting, some rain is forecast which could change things but as we write this we are looking at Good to Soft going though unsure what non runners may occur.

We've a 8 race card for this afternoon, the gates will be open from midday and the first race will get under way at 2:00pm. Remember that children under 18 are being admitted FREE.

Here's my selections for the card on Monday afternoon and we'll keep a running tally on any profit (or indeed loss) for the three days, after day one we are slightly down 1.5 points to a level stake at SP;

2:00 5f 213y Fillies Maiden -- We start the second day with a fillies maiden event, just the 7 declared for now and not much to work with. Richard Hannon brings two but neither of GUAPO BAY / PINKY PROMISE have shown much on their opening runs to suggest they can take this.

It's noted that Mark Johnston sends SILENT DREAMER all this way having run with some promise at Beverley on latest showing and will be our pick for the opener. [2nd 5/6F]

2:30 5f 213y Selling Handicap -- A poor looking Seller next up and only BREAN SPLASH SUZIE seems to come here in any sort of form. Not a race I'd want to really play in but for the sake of placepot and selection purposes would have to have a good look at both TANCRED [WON 16/1] and COMPTON PRINCE [7th 9/1] in the ring and betting market with the hope you can back both versus the field.

3:00 5f 213y Nursery -- Yet another race of this trip, would be nice to vary things a little perhaps? No? OK then.

Eight 2yo declared for this, OJAI won here last time out and could be worth going with as the experience should be very useful. [6th 16/1]

3:30 1m 1f 209y Amateur Riders Handicap -- A race over a better trip but will take some riding these Amateurs coming down the hill.

SUPA SEEKER has a recent win here two starts ago and with a very good rider on board looks over priced at 10/1 for this and we'll have that win/place. [3rd 8/1]

4:00 1m 1f 209y Maiden -- A poorly supported maiden with just the 4 runners declared, but the top yards are represented here and ST SAVIOUR is the choice of those with some form to offer and will find this much easier than the 1m handicap he contested at Sandown last time.
[WON 8/15F]

4:30 7f 214y Handicap (Div 1) -- The first division of this handicap event has 10 runners declared, most of the field are CD winners so should be competitive today.

I do prefer the older horses over the 3yo's and that will give me PELAGIAN [5th 5/1] and MALIH [Non Runner] against the field.

5:00 7f 214y Handicap (Div 2) -- The second division doesn't see to be as competitive as the first, with only NIFTY KIER and EL DUQUE having a consistent looking profile.

Against those though I am going to take a punt with Lady Cecil's PUDDING [8th 14/1] who comes in fresh, and at 12/1 or more looks worth a shot in the place market at least.

5:30 6f 209y Handicap -- The finale for day two is another sprint handicap and it's PORT LAIRGE who is the fancy having raced here most of his career (7 runs, including 3 wins). Will be a surprise if not in the frame on a track that he clearly knows and loves. [WON 11/8F]

Great results from Monday including a nice 16/1 winner which means we made a nice little profit of +11.90 points to a SP level stake and therefore wipes out the small loss from day one.

We will carry over a profit of +10.40 points to Tuesday, the selections for which are already published and will be updated with results tomorrow evening.

Enjoy your time on the Sussex coast.

GREAT VIEWS FROM THE SUSSEX DOWNS
