CHELTENHAM NH NOVEMBER MEETING - SUNDAY 15th NOVEMBER

CHELTENHAM NOVEMBER MEETING SUNDAY

This is the only Sunday where racing takes place at Cheltenham Racecourse throughout the year. This year continues to be very different as all racing is continuing behind closed doors. We still have some exciting racing which may well throw out some big clues for the festival meeting here in March.

The November Meeting on Sunday features six thrilling races, including the feature race of the day the Unibet Greatwood Handicap Hurdle [3:00]. Harambe won the 2019 renewal, ridden by Tom Bellamy, owned by Niall Farrell and friends and trained by Alan King. [pictured below].

Enjoy the final day of a great card with racing live on ITV.

Surface:   Turf.

Going:     Soft.

1:15  The mallardjewellers.com Novices' Steeple Chase
3m 80y  (Class 2  6 runners)
A tidy field of six here and led by Paul Nicholls SOLDIER OF LOVE who was runner up to Galvin here last month, prior to that defeat had won four in a row and generally a good jumper for the master trainer, should be very close. Has to give 8lb to Colin Tizzard's THE BIG BREAKAWAY who has a similar rating but the 5yo is having his chase debut so will be interesting to see how he jumps and if he can use that weight to his advantage. Of the remainder THE BUTCHER SAID has won two chases but was all out last time to justify favouritism and this looks a bit stronger today. Nick Gifford runs THE MIGHTY DON [Non Runner] and as a Wimbledon fan will have his supporters too.

Result - (6) The Big Breakaway @4/9f [Robbie Power].

1:50  The Plantuer at Chapel Stud Handicap Steeple Chase (Grade 3)
3m 3f 71y (Grade 3  9 runners)
WEST APPROACH won this last year and reappears again, looks to have another good chance to repeat that feat, although has failed to win since including three races where he failed to complete. The likes of DISCORAMA and CLOTH CAP [Non Runner] are consistent, the former was beaten in a three runner affair latest start, they could well place again but are not the most regular of winners therefore the most lively danger is RAMSES DE TEILLEE [Won 11/2] who returns to the larger obstacles for David Pipe and is a thorough stayer so will side with them here.

Result - (5) Ramses De Teillee @11/2  [Tom Scudamore].

2:25  The Shloer Steeplechase (Grade 2)
2m  (Grade 2  6 runners)
Select field of six here for the Shloer Chase usually a good trial for the Champion Chase at the festival, first up is DEFI DU SEUIL who took this contest last year and a major player again this season even though eventually met defeat in the Champion Chase but almost certainly targeting that again. RIDERS ON THE STORM looked one to follow last season although a faller in the Ryanair Chase is only a 7yo and has his best years to come. ROUGE VIF
[Non Runner] looked the one to follow this season with his victory here last month likely to be the danger to Defi Du Seuil today. You overlook any Paul Nicholls runner at your peril but his DUC DES GENIEVRES was trained by Willie Mullins and will need to find some improvement to take this first time up. The mare PUT THE KETTLE ON gets some weight allowances here and was a progressive novice chaser last season winning The Arkle chase at the festival could continue improving this year but might find this a bit too quick. All in all a cracking race to watch and take notes from.

Result - (6) Put The Kettle On @7/4 [Aidan Coleman].

3:00 Unibet Greatwood Handicap Hurdle (Grade 3)
2m 87y  (Class 1  18 runners)
The big race for Sunday and a huge field of eighteen to call, headed by BALLYANDY the 9yo for the Twiston-Davies yard ran well in defeat to Sceau Royal and ought to run a big race despite the weight burden. Last years winner HARAMBE appears again, has only raced once since that victory when brought down at Newbury in February and might well need this outing. The Alan King yard have won several renewals of this event and saddle EDWARDSTONE here was sixth in the Supreme Novices at the festival and should have been sufficiently prepared for this. At a decent prince will have a place bet on STRONG GLANCE trained by Olly Murphy is lightly raced but always been placed and if he can get a decent position should stay on towards the end.

Result - (18) The Shunter @13/2  [Robbie Power].

3:35 Sky Bet Supreme Trial Novices' Hurdle (Grade 2) (Registered As The Sharp Novices' Hurdle)
2m 87y  (Grade 2  6 runners)
Another race with a small field, the six here are led by COURTANDBOULED who has been kept busy in the summer months winning twice at Stratford and again at Fontwell, this is a completely different track but in form, should run well enough. FIDELIO VALLIS took a couple of novice hurdles end of last season and reappeared at Kempton when a close runner up, should be ready to win with that run under his belt and respected, while the Dan Skelton runner THIRD TIME LUCKI has two wins last month both odds on favs, and third time up could well go in again but hasn't beaten much so far and this looks a lot tougher.

Result - (3) For Pleasure @14/1  [Harry Bannister].

4:05 High Sheriff Of Gloucestershire And Racing Remember Standard Open NH Flat Race (Listed)
2m 87y  (Class 1  10 runners)
Another quality race of it's type here with all the top yards represented and the interesting one has to be Gordon Elliott's WESEEKHIMHERE coming over from Ireland and a dual winner will certainly be supported. Paul Nicholls runs STAGE STAR
[Non Runner] who was an easy winner on his debut at Chepstow and Nicky Henderson saddles the unraced FIRESTEP [Non Runner] who could well be one for the notebooks if he runs well here on debut. With the two non runners now we will switch to LET IT LOOSE as an each way bet for the Twiston-Davies yard.

Result - (3) Good Risk At All @13/2  [Sam Twiston-Davies].

Results will be updated later on during the afternoon and we hope you enjoyed a good weekend too. Hope to be able to go racing in 2021 sometime, until then stay safe.
