AFC Wimbledon will 'host' their first home game back in Wimbledon at the New Plough Lane Stadium, signalling a return home just 18 short years after having to restart in the 9th tier of English Football. We know it only took nine years to get back our stolen league please, so to make the return back to Plough Lane, Wimbledon in just another 9 years is absolutely unbelievable and shows what an amazing set up and loyal fan base we have.
It's very sad for the fans that the first game will have to be behind closed doors, so the club are going to mark the occasion with a one-off digital show to celebrate this incredible achievement and bring fans together virtually, though sadly not in person. The show will be hosted by Chris Phillips with Terry Gibson and John Scales live on YouTube from 6pm on Tuesday 3rd November. It will include a look back at Wimbledon’s history on Plough Lane, the amazing work by Wimbledon fans across so many campaigns to make the dream of returning home a reality and some highlights of the journey so far.
Back to the game itself on Tuesday and our opponents for this historic League One match will be Doncaster Rovers. Managed by the very likeable Darren Moore and currently sitting in 8th place in the league on 16 points, they come to us on the back of a 1-0 home victory against early leaders Lincoln City, and have the evergreen James Coppinger still leading the way. Will certainly be a hard team to break down as we found out last year losing in a replay in the FA Cup. The Dons will be fired up for this too, even without fans, we drew our last league fixture 1-1 against the franchise experiment fc last weekend and are sitting in 11th place ourselves, with Joe Pigott leading the line and Ollie Palmer now available to bolster the attacking line up I hope we will see a more positive effort against Donny. The more games our on loan goalkeeper Connal Trueman gets the better he's looking and I'm sure his parent club Birmingham will be keeping an eye on his progress, it does begin to look like a better squad than recent years and I think mid table is perfectly respectable. The most important part of this season is the new stadium, and then getting the fans back inside when we can. Then we can push on again.

Our first competitive game as AFC Wimbledon was in 2017, and we won that 2-0, overall we have three wins against Doncaster, with two defeats and two draws, two of those games were in last years FA Cup, so the league record is fairly healthy as 3-1-1.

Match Summary;
It was a historic night with no fans, and despite taking the lead twice in the game Doncaster were able to reply and take a draw, to be fair probably a good result and was no surprise to see the evergreen James Coppinger come off the bench to score late on. Joe Pigott scored twice for the Dons and maybe we can learn to hold onto a lead for more than 5-10 minutes as it's becoming a habit, but we are scoring, we not getting hammered by bigger clubs and points on the board at this stage are welcome. The real opening will occur when we can have fans back in the ground and that will be a big party.
My Man of the Match - Joe Pigott - history maker.
Attendance - Currently None Sadly. ;(
Today's Referee - Today's match referee will be Mr Darren Drysdale from Lincolnshire and is an RAF sergeant based at RAF Waddington. He was in charge of our FA Cup game last season again Doncaster, very experienced, we should be in good hands tonight for this historic game. Will be assisted by Nicholas Cooper and Mike Desborough on the touchlines and our fourth official is Christopher Wade.

29 years of waiting, and the first game at New Plough Lane, Wimbledon, is off and running. The Dons kicked off our new chapter here, let's get at them and ensure we get the first goal at NPL too. The opening ten minutes are fairly uneventful under the strong lights here, but the game comes to life on 18 mins when Joe Pigott scores the first goal here, a left foot shot into the corner and thousands at home go wild. As has been the case for the last few games the lead only lasts a few minutes, as Doncaster equalise Matthew Smith hits a right footed shot to the bottom left corner to square things up.
- Over 1.5 Goals in 1st Half @9/4 YES!!!
- Joe Pigott to score first @9/2 YES!!!
- AFC Wimbledon to win @5/2.
