KEMPTON PARK RACES 2019 -- WEDNESDAY NIGHTS #17 7th August

KEMPTON PARK RACES 2019 -- WEDNESDAY NIGHTS

Continuing with the next instalment of what I hope will prove to be a more productive second half to the year throughout 2019.

August has arrived and it's still too hot and muggy for the likes of me especially on the weekend, hopefully we'll chill down a bit and have a fun night here at Kempton. The Ashes are underway with the 1st Test over resulting in an opening and crushing defeat against the Aussies, hopefully things will improve if we can field a side of 11 fit players in the next test. The Football League One season is now underway though sadly AFC Wimbledon lost their opening home game 1-2 to Rotherham. A trip away to Fleetwood this Saturday is next on the agenda for the Dons, and we hope that we can put some points on the board early this season to settle everyone down.

Did not have the best of meetings here last time but will continue to focus on the all weather horse racing now while the lights still shine brightly here at Kempton Park throughout this year. We are hopeful of better season than we experienced last year but it's just some fun and excitement to mix up the week we have started the first half a little behind to SP though it's positive thus far with regular winners and successful lay bets too.

Let us continue with this our seventeenth Wednesday night of 2019, and will continue to focus on the handicap contests for each Wednesday evening meeting though we will also occasionally include a feature listed or conditions event too if there is one available. Keeping records of our endeavours to a 1 point level stake at SP, naturally we will personally be looking to get better odds than this but for the purpose of these results here we simply record SP returns only.
Following our last meeting the deficit is currently on -43.525 points to SP returns overall. We continue to battle hard to reduce this and thankfully there is still plenty of time to get this back on track.

Throughout the year we will keep up with our occasional lay opportunities of anticipated short priced favourites too. Naturally we will keep these results separately from the handicap figures we have been fairly successful with our selections so far and last time got another selections beat which means we are now 17/24 we will continue with this through 2019.

This Wednesday will be meeting number seventeen for the 2019 AW season and we are expecting a seven race card tonight we have four handicaps now this week for us to look through and enjoy. The action which will now commence at 17:30 with a the first handicap contest over a mile and the card ends around about 20:30 with our final handicap contest over seven furlongs.

Here's a link to this Wednesday's race card; RACECARD

Going and Weather -- The going on the polytrack surface is described as 'standard to slow' and the current weather forecast for this Wednesday is for a lot of cloudy with more than an average chance of rain a top temperature will be about 22C by the time the meeting gets underway.

Here are our handicap selections for tonight;

17:30 -- 1m Handicap.
We open with a mile handicap and a field of 14 declared headed by CASHEL [5th 6/1] a course and distance winner off a 6lb lower mark, backed that run up with another win subsequently and could still be of interest despite the weight around a track that clearly brings his best out of him.

SERAPHIM [4th 4/1] has a lot going for her, a sound race when last seen placed around here and back on better going than her run at Yarmouth is also united with a very good jockey who regularly rides the track well. While BOXATRICKS [Non Runner] is a massive price for a horse that has won a mile race at Newcastle and will prefer this surface to the soft going encountered recently also with a young exciting 7lb claimer on board (Sean Kirrane the Irish jockey) could be one to keep onside this season and during the winter all weather campaign.

19:30 -- 1m 3f 219y Handicap.
An open event with a field of nine, the first one to consider is THE PINTO KID [2nd 11/8f] who is 3/3 around here and battled on to win last time. Raised 4lb for that win and while in this mood should make a bold bid for another win and if it comes to another battle at least we know he's up for it.

LOST HISTORY [6th 20/1] can be fancied back on the all weather and is of interest at 16/1 odds with today's jockey Jack Mitchell on board for that last win at Wolves too is encouraging, has previously won over this trip in Ireland too and tried his luck over hurdles so plenty to like at the price.

20:00 -- 1m 7f 218y Handicap.
The staying race has a field of only seven which tempers the each way options and we have a lively short price favourite in the shape of LAND OF OZ [WON 4/6f] for Sir Mark Prescott who has already landed a couple of wins recently and this looks like a shoe in to be honest for the master trainer who specialises in racking up a sequence with his horses.

GAVLAR [5th 16/1] ran better last time out and might be on a going day this time but can be unreliable, so will take PETRASTAR [3rd 10/1] who is trying a longer trip for the first time which might well show him in a better light though can be bit frustrating as still a maiden but looks likely to give good account and the forecast bet.

20:30 -- 7f Handicap (3yo).
Our finale tonight sees a field of ten all 3yo's over the seven furlongs. ALICIA DARCY [7th 9/1] has won her last three all on different tracks and surfaces so clearly is flexible and probably won't mind the surface, will surely be a warm favourite to make it four in a row.

Top weight CARNIVAL ROSE [4th 3/1] won here over 7f and only has four career starts so given another chance stepping up to the mile for trainer James Fanshawe. While DUBRAVA [WON 4/1] is another to have run well at 7f and is tried over the slightly longer trip which could still be within her.

Staked -- 10 points.
Returns -- 7.67 points [2 Winners, 1 N/R so far].

Results will appear here later during Wednesday evening. We are currently on a deficit of -43.525 points to SP returns for the season, five months of the season to go though. Couple of winners tonight but not enough to stop another losing night, lost another -2.33 points so we are now -45.855

LAYS -- 17/24. Another successful pair of lay bets last time around and will see if we can find one or two short priced selections and will post here if we have any for tonight.

Tonight's Lays;
18:00 - DUBAI WARRIOR [1m 3yo Novice Stakes]
Won 4/11f
19:00 - ILLUMINED [1m 3f+ 3yo Fillies Novice].
Lost 2nd 5/6f
One winner, one loser, at the prices on show not so bad.
18/26 now.
2019 AW season at Kempton under the lights
