"GLORIOUS" GOODWOOD FESTIVAL 2019 [TUES 30th JULY - SAT 3rd AUG] -- DAY THREE

THURSDAY Day Three
Wednesday was another successful day for us and Frankie Dettori who claimed the Sussex Stakes with TOO DARN HOT following his Goodwood Cup win on day one. Picked up the place bet in the earlier race too so lets see how he gets on today.

We are only looking at the major races each day not the entire card so focused on the main Group Races or major handicaps. The meeting runs through to Saturday and we'll to keep running totals of profit / loss throughout the week.

So lets look at Day Three which is of course Ladies Day where the feature race will be the Group 1 Nassau Stakes worth £600,000;

Going -- Good, Good to firm in places.
Weather -- Generally sunny, bit breezy and high 24C

2:25 6f Qatar Richmond Stakes (Group 2).
A strong field of thirteen runners for the first group race today and it's a 6f sprint for 2yo Colts with over £110k to the winner up for grabs. Looks a very open contest bar the Richard Hannon horse THREAT but that's too short for us in a race of this nature so instead we pick a pair of decent price candidates against the field. Start with KING NEPTUNE [10th 25/1] from the Aiden O'Brien yard and the choice of Ryan Moore, alongside MAXI BOY [9th 10/1] for Michael Bell and Frankie Dettori already having a good week with the win in the Goodwood Cup again.

3:00 1m 3f 218y Qatar Gordon Stakes (Group 3).

A good quality event for the field of nine three year olds here, worth a shade under £100k for the winner and the it's the top two that I pick against the field here. CONSTANTINOPLE [2nd 2/1] was runner up at Royal Ascot (King George V) and was the filling in an Aiden O'Brien sandwich as he saddled the first three all in the colours of Coolmore, a repeat of that form and should take all the beating. Alongside will be SPANISH MISSION [3rd 11/2] for Jamie Spencer who was runner up here and then collected a Group 3 at Newmarket.

Selections :  CONSTANTINOPLE  /  SPANISH MISSION.

3:35 1m 2f Nassau Stakes (Group 1).
Also labelled as the Fillies Group 1 today this has attracted nine runners for ladies day and has a win pot of over £340k on offer. No big surprise to see that Aiden O'Brien has the lively favourite in HERMOSA [] who is the English and Irish 1000 Guineas winner and was then runner up to Watch Me at Royal Ascot (Coronation Stakes). 

The Frankel Filly MEHDAAYIH [2nd 3/1] is still of interest for the John Gosden/Frankie Dettori team though doesn't yet have the profile of the favourite could be a late developer and should know what is required. While a place bet is the least I would aim for with another Frankel Filly in SUN MAIDEN [] from the Sir Michael Stoute yard and another who should be improving with experience.

That's all for Thursday, results will be updated during the afternoon, and we had a very successful day today with two winners and profit on the day, and we will soon have an update for Friday which will feature the £300,000 Qatar King George Stakes (Group 2).

Add in three further top quality races and Friday of the Qatar Goodwood Festival has to be one of the most enthralling day's racing in the entire calendar.
