KEMPTON PARK HORSE RACING 2021 - MEETING #3 WEDNESDAY 27th JANUARY

Welcome to Kempton Park racecourse here for another season of evening meetings following the events on a Wednesday night on the all weather flat track under the lights. We will be blogging throughout 2021 till the end of the year. Last time around we saw another successful meeting here at Kempton which we hope will continue. FA Cup fourth round action sadly not for my team AFC Wimbledon, but we took on Crewe Alexandra and managed a 1-1 draw which has taken us out of the bottom four at least for the time being. Also followed the NFL Championship games which saw Tampa Bay and Kansas City reach Superbowl LV which will take place in Tampa, Florida on February 7th.

Back to the horse racing all results here are reported to 1pt at Starting Prices (SP) and we will be keeping a rolling record of profit/loss all the way through from January till the Boxing Day King George fixture in December. After our first couple of meetings and a big price winner last time we have a +36.33 profit and will continue to keep a record to SP throughout 2021.

Throughout the year we will keep up with our occasional lay opportunities of anticipated short priced favourites too. Naturally we will keep these results separately from the handicap figures we had been fairly successful with our selections throughout last year managed to get plenty of favourites beat so we finished on 33/49 (67.34%). We reset the counters for 2021 and will be continuing this throughout the year again. 2/3 Started well with two lays both beaten after first meeting but sadly an odds on fav obliged last week we shall see how things progress during the year ahead. 

This week we look forward to the third Wednesday evening meeting of the year and sadly it's still being held behind closed doors as we are in the latest national lockdown. Tonight we shall be expecting a nine race card with seven handicaps to review. Our action will now commence at 16:10 with a seven furlong maiden contest and we should end the card around about 20:20 with a stayers handicap event over just under two miles. There are no noted feature races tonight, all are class five and class six events.

Going and Weather -- The going on the polytrack surface is described as 'standard to slow' and the current weather forecast for this Wednesday is for a lot of chilly weather and it's probably just as well there is no attendance tonight as there's a good chance of rain showers plus the temperature will only reach a high of 9C tonight.

A runner up on her two starts in 2021 PERFECT ROSE [sh 2nd @7/2] can make a bold bid for an overdue win tonight with Hollie Doyle a positive booking. While SKY LAKE [Non Runner] is another who should be close having been placed in her last two runs and both selections returning to Kempton for the first time in a while.

John Best's mare TORBELLINO [2nd @11/8f] has placed regularly when racing here and we'll give her a chance to strike the front in a low level affair and only a handful of runners. While EMBRACE THE MOMENT [Pulled up 10/3] is a Pontefract winner and the small field might allow her to dictate for a change. Both last run here two weeks ago where we scored with a nice Jamie Osborne winner and they face one another again.

A winner here last year when last seen at this track RED JASPER [3rd @9/2] could have a chance in this grade and forecast odds of 10/1 he should be a good place chance at the very least. Wolverhampton specialist CRITICAL THINKING [head 2nd @18/1] makes a rare trip away from his usual course but there's still life in this 7yo and another to side with while in good order with himself.

In this the second division of the mile handicap we have PINK JAZZ [WON @13/2] a runner up on their only previous course visit, twice a winner at Wolves recently and probably didn't appreciate the extra 2f last time at Lingfield. CASHEL [3rd @11/2] has had plenty of course experience and getting weight from all of these today this might be an opportunity for another success.

Although he's reached the age of nine AIR OF YORK [7th 6/1] still proved there's life in him yet with a win around here last time out and jockey Rossa Ryan in the saddle again, has a good chance once again tonight. MY FOOTSTEPS [3rd @9/2] is having his first run here tonight but was a winner over at Chelmsford a couple of weeks ago so clearly in good heart and David Probert rides for Sir Mark Todd now training racehorses having had success at the top level in the equestrian events and at the Olympics.

MISS THOUGHTFUL [3rd @9/1] lightly raced for a 4yo filly, she has been successful here this time last year and looks a big price at 25/1 didn't seem to run her race last time at Lingfield but willing to give her another go tonight. NAPPING [7th @8/1] is a very experienced 8yo and winning regularly enough to be involved tonight, success at Windsor, Lingfield and at Kempton shows some versatility.

We conclude tonight's meeting with a stayers event, CINZENTO [3rd @2/1f] has been lightly raced in the past twelve months but a winner here last year and successful again at Chelmsford a fortnight ago, should continue to improve over the longer trips at this low level. Will also be interested in VILLANELLE [6th @11/2] the filly was staying on at Lingfield last time, gets plenty of weight here and seems to have got over a stumble when unseating her rider back in December.

Staked -- 14 points.       Returns -- 8.5 points.
Results will appear here later during Wednesday evening. This season we started afresh and will try hard to stop going well behind but all results are accurate and recorded to SP returns to a 1pt win stake only and updated each meeting. A winning start to 2021 was most welcome, increased to +36.33 pts profit after meeting #2 lets hope this continues. Week #3 results are in and only the one winner tonight, several places so a small loss of -5.5pts but still carrying over a profit of +30.83 to meeting #4 next week.

Lays -- 2/3 We had a good season last year again with the lays, aiming at favourites and not afraid to take on short odds on shots too. The plan will be for at least one or two each meeting and we will keep those results separate from the handicaps. Got couple beat, shame about the winner, well we move onto the next meeting in a week's time on 4/6.
