Welcome to Kempton Park racecourse here for another season of evening meetings following the events on a Wednesday night on the all weather flat track under the lights. We will be blogging throughout 2021 till the end of the year. Last week saw a successful opening meeting here at Kempton, followed by the FA Cup 3rd round weekend although sadly no games for my team AFC Wimbledon, hopefully our next game against Sunderland will go ahead next week.
Back to the horse racing all results here are reported to 1pt at Starting Prices (SP) and this is of course our second meeting of the year so we will be keeping a rolling record of profit/loss all the way through from January till the Boxing Day King George fixture in December. After our first meeting last week we have a +13.33 profit and will continue to keep a record to SP throughout 2021.Throughout the year we will keep up with our occasional lay opportunities of anticipated short priced favourites too. Naturally we will keep these results separately from the handicap figures we had been fairly successful with our selections throughout last year managed to get plenty of favourites beat so we finished on 33/49 (67.34%). We reset the counters for 2021 and will be continuing this throughout the year again. 2/2 Started well with two lays both beaten after meeting #1 and we shall see how things progress during the year ahead.
This week we look forward to the second Wednesday evening meeting of the year and sadly it's still being held behind closed doors as we are in the latest national lockdown. Tonight we shall be expecting a nine race card with six handicaps to review now that the mile handicap has been split into two divisions. This all means that the action will now still commence at 16:15 with a six furlong handicap contest and we should end the card around about 20:20 with a stayers handicap event over just under two miles. There are no feature races tonight, all are class five and class six events.
Here's a link to this Wednesday's race card; RACECARD Going and Weather -- The going on the polytrack surface is described as 'standard to slow' and the current weather forecast for this Wednesday is for a lot of chilly weather and it's probably just as well there is no attendance tonight as there's a chance of rain plus the temperature will only reach a high of 6C tonight.
Here are our handicap selections for tonight;16:15 Unibet New Instant Roulette Handicap (3yo)
6f [Class 6 12 runners]
Our opening handicap tonight is a six furlong sprint for three year olds and TEDDY B [8th 6/1] is a tentative pick having dropped in weights as well as back over what is probably his best trip. Support for THE PRETTY WAY [2nd 6/1] would be interesting, lightly raced, placed at a big price at Wolves and now has Hollie Doyle taking over from a claimer to give stronger handling, got beaten a head, annoyingly close.
16:45 Unibet Extra Place Offers Every Day Handicap (3yo)
1m [Class 6 11 runners]
Top weight Nortonthorpe Boy was beaten when attempting to defy another penalty at Southwell on Sunday, so if he tries again tonight I will oppose once more even though he won here prior to that run. BANOFFEE [8th 5/1] was runner up in that event here and tries again off the same mark, is respected if able to run closer to the pace this time. While BABY SHAM [3rd 8/1] was placed 3rd at Wolves last time although only just a neck behind the winner and runner up so another with a good chance if able to replicate that run.
17:15 Join Racing TV Now Handicap (Div One)
1m [Class 6 11 runners]
The mile is the trip for this first division where the 5yo mare LADY MORPHEUS [8th 15/2] can give trainer Gary Moore a nice winner and she has plenty of nice form on the all weather, shouldn't be too far away. HUNTERS STEP [Non Runner] is another all weather type but hasn't appeared at Kempton before now, was runner up just over a week ago and entitled to be close again off this mark.
17:50 Join Racing TV Now Handicap (Div Two)
1m [Class 6 10 runners]
The second division has ten runners, headed by SUNS UP GUNS UP [WON 4/1] who has been lightly raced so far, yet has dropped in class and been given a few pounds off his mark too so mush have a chance now for Amanda Perrett. FUJAIRA KING [9th 10/1] started off with a rating of 74 and found that difficult so now off 54 and in a class 6 contest is another that might start to return to some sort of form, did win here last January.
19:20 Try Our New Price Boosts At Unibet Handicap
1m 3f 219y [Class 5 14 runners]
A 4yo filly COQUETA [13th 16/1] has only had three career starts, all finishing third, but now entering handicaps she could find this a more realistic level, should be fine over the trip. Similar situation for Jamie Osborne's colt NICKS NOT WONDER [WON 28/1] three races, and not seen since January 2020, yard do well here. Cracking result, another profitable meeting assured.
20:20 Try Our New Super Boosts At Unibet Handicap
1m 7f 218y [Class 6 14 runners]
A stayers event for the finale tonight FLAT TO THE MAX [4th 7/1] has yet to win on the flat but won't find too many easier races to break that duck after a recent runner up at Wolves. KOZIER [3rd 11/1] trained by Alan King has been mixing Flat / NH racing recently and the trip should pose no problems should be fit to do himself justice again.
Staked -- 12 points. Returns -- 35 points.
Results will appear here later during Wednesday evening. This season we started afresh and will try hard to stop going well behind but all results are accurate and recorded to SP returns to a 1pt win stake only and updated each meeting. A winning start to 2021 was most welcome, +13.33 pts profit for meeting #1 lets hope this continues into meeting #2.
* Superb winner from Jamie Osborne at 28/1 ensures another profit tonight, now ahead +36.33 after meeting #2 a nice start for 2021.
Lays -- 2/2 We had a good season last year again with the lays, aiming at favourites and not afraid to take on short odds on shots too. The plan will be for at least one or two each meeting and we will keep those results separate from the handicaps. A nice start with the opening week seeing both lay bets losing hopefully the 100% start will continue for a while. An odds on favourite was successful which was a shame, but we still ahead 2/3.
Tonight's Lays;
18:50 - Melody of Life [7f Novice Stakes]. Won 8/11F
Our next floodlit meeting here will be held on Wednesday 27th January so keep well and hopefully we can have a successful 2021.
