2021 NFL DIVISIONAL PLAY OFF WEEKEND 16th / 17th JANUARY

NFL Divisional Play Offs January 16-17th 2021

The wild card games are done and we now have the Divisional Playoffs as we begin to edge closer to the end of the post season and Superbowl LV. We are down to the final eight teams who will contest the Divisional Playoff games this weekend and put themselves into the Championship games for the right to play in the finale at Raymond James Stadium, Tampa, Florida on February 7th. We can anticipate some cracking NFL games this weekend, who can win to keep their season alive and who will be watching Superbowl LV from the comfort of their sofa with a cold beer along with me?
Who's reached this stage of the playoffs (seeds in brackets);
AFC
Kansas City Chiefs [#1]
Buffalo Bills [#2]
Baltimore Ravens [#5]
Cleveland Browns [#6]

NFC
Green Bay Packers [#1]
New Orleans Saints [#2]
Tampa Bay Buccaneers [#5]
LA Rams [#6]

The opening game on Saturday night is in the NFC where No1 Seeds Green Bay Packers [13-3] will host 6th Seed LA Rams [10-6] at their Lambeau
Field stadium, Quarterback Aaron Rogers is many people's idea of MVP this season and we could end up with a mammoth clash if he can lead Green Bay to face reigning champions Kansas City in Superbowl LV should both the No1 Seeds prevail (we hope).

Sunday morning (UK times) sees the first of the AFC games where the Buffalo Bills [#2 seeds] will host Baltimore Ravens [#5 seed], followed by the AFC No1 Seeds Kansas City Chiefs [14-2] who will host Cleveland Browns [11-5] conquerors of the Steelers and having an incredible season with Baker Mayfield, will have to up their game again to defeat a Patrick Mahomes led Chiefs. Finally we will see the battle of the old folk, Tom Brady leads Tampa Bay Buccaneers [11-5] against Drew Brees' New Orleans Saints [12-4].

NFC DIVISIONAL PLAY-OFF
LA Rams  18 @ 32  Green Bay Packers  [H/T 10-19]
21:35  Venue: Lambeau Field
The Rams have to travel to face the #1 seeds Green Bay in NFC and I strongly fancy Aaron Rogers side to over come a decent Rams team who rely strongly on having a superb defence which is led by Aaron Donald. Although there are reports that Donald is injured he is expected to play though surely he will be at a disadvantage if not 100% right. The Rams Quarterback position is also unclear, Jared Goff (who starts) suffered an injury in the regular season and didn't start last weekend but came on for replacement John Wolford. For me the Packers have the big advantage, a week off and playing at home with little injury concerns. The Rams are also without my main man Cooper Kupp tonight who has a knee injury.

Sunday 17th January 2021

AFC DIVISIONAL PLAY-OFF
Baltimore Ravens  3 @ 17  Buffalo Bills    [H/T 3-3]
01:15  Venue: Bills Stadium.
Lamar Jackson inspired the Ravens to win last weekend, running in a 48yd touchdown himself but was sacked five times as well and this should be a lot harder against the inform Buffalo Bills. Quarterback Josh Allen can lead the Bills towards SuperBowl LV with Stefon Diggs my fancy to lead the offense here with rushing yards and backing him to score at least one touchdown in this match up (possibly more).

AFC DIVISIONAL PLAY-OFF
Cleveland Browns  17 @ 22  Kansas City Chiefs  [H/T 3-19]
20:05  Venue: Arrowhead Stadium.
Cleveland overcame my fancied team Pittsburgh last weekend in a high scoring game and I fully expect plenty of points again as they come up against the reigning champions Kansas City. It's Baker Mayfield against Patrick Mahomes, the Browns have a great offense pairing with Nick Chubb and former Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt, while the Chiefs have tons of weapons for Mahomes to aim at not least Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce the game should be big on offence. Patrick Mahomes goes off with concussion towards the end of the 3rd quarter.

NFC DIVISIONAL PLAY-OFF

Tampa Bay Buccaneers  30 @ 20 New Orleans Saints
23:40  Venue: Mercedes Benz Superdome.
The final play off game of the weekend and they have left the stage for the two most experienced quarter backs and guaranteed hall of famers when they finally give up, of course it's Tom Brady vs Drew Brees. It's too close to call this one, Brady has proved he's the GOAT since leaving the Patriots and taken his new team straight into the play offs, while Brees should have had more than the one Superbowl to his name and might well be retiring at the end of this campaign. Backing the Over 52 Total Points market, am also going to side with the Buccaneers to win here @6/4.

[Times shown are GMT]

Will update with the final scores later over the weekend and then look forward to the AFC and NFC Championship Games next Sunday 24th January. Then of course begin to look at the
Superbowl LV itself which will be on Sunday 7th February in Tampa Bay and broadcast live on BBC TV in UK.
