"GLORIOUS" GOODWOOD FESTIVAL 2017 [TUES 1st AUG - SAT 5th AUG] -- DAY TWO

WEDNESDAY

Day Two now and while the opening day was good if you managed to pick out BRETON ROCK (50/1 in the Group 2 Lennox Stakes) it meant we came away empty handed from our race selections managing only a couple of 2nd places.

Not to be deterred we crack on with Wednesday where we have the feature event the Group 1 Sussex Stakes.

We are only looking at the major races each day not the entire card so focused on the main Group Races or major handicaps. The meeting runs to Saturday and we'll keep running totals of profit / loss throughout the week.

So lets look at day two we've got a pair of Group races today with the Group 3 Molecomb Stakes off at 3:00 supporting the feature event the Group 1 Sussex Stakes at 3:35;

Going -- Good.

Weather -- Generally sunny, bit breezy a 50/50 chance of some showers during the day, high 17C.

3:00 Molecomb Stakes 5f (Group 3)
Strong field of 13 are lined up for the 5f sprint that is the Group 3 Molecomb Stakes today. While all the top yards from UK and IRE are represented they are all struggling to find a place in the market compared to the US Raider HAPPY LIKE A FOOL [Non Runner]

Looks well worth her place at the head of the betting, the trainer has come over with top class horses for Royal Ascot and this will be hard to beat in this company especially getting the weight concession.

However might not have it all her own way, and the likes of BATTLE OF JERICHO [Non Runner] and DENAAR [8th 6/1] who are both about 16/1 in the market will be interesting for me in the place betting.

3:35 Sussex Stakes 1m (Group 1)
A field of 9 declared for the feature race today, worth over half a million to the winner, where RIBCHESTER is the short price market leader having won the Queen Anne stakes at the Royal Meeting.

Must be some value elsewhere in a field where 3 places still available. LIGHTENING SPEAR certainly loves it here and at 20/1 appeals as an option, the question is whether Churchill can find his form again on the rain softened ground here having failed to shine when odds on fav in the St James Palace at Ascot they will be praying for sunshine but if the rain falls expect this one to be a Non Runner -- UPDATE was indeed withdrawn from the race shortly before they went to post.

Racing on the Sussex downs

Wednesday results to be update later, several non runners so far.

Day Three should be ready soon and we'll try and get back on track before the end of the meeting this Saturday.

Thursday of course is Ladies Day naturally the most glamorous day of the meeting, and is truly the place to see and be seen. The prestigious Group 1 Qatar Nassau Stakes is the highlight of the eight-race card, worth £600,000. Previous winners include Ouija Board, Midday and Minding. Expect fierce competition as the best of the best compete against the backdrop of the stunning Sussex Downs.
