GALWAY FESTIVAL 2017 [JULY 31st -- AUG 6th] -- DAY THREE WEDNESDAY

DAY THREE
The Galway festival is off with a bang, after the first couple of days results we are a little behind on -8.00pts but It's early days ...

The third day begins a little earlier than the opening fixtures and will begin at 3:15pm with a 2m maiden hurdle, but the feature race this afternoon is the Grade A Galway Plate over 2m 6f which will get underway at 5:35pm.

As mentioned on day one our recent years have focused on the horses from trainer Dermot Weld and we will continue to track his progress this week though we might also offer one or two other selections in particular the feature races if no Weld runner is declared.

Going -- NH -- Good ; Flat -- Yielding

Weather Forecast -- A high of 16C with a chance of a few showers later as it has been so far this week.

DAY THREE SELECTIONS;

3:15 --
2m 110y Maiden Hurdle -- SILVER CONCORDE [5th 5/1].

5:00 -- 1m 4f 43y Maiden -- TURNABOUT [7th 6/1].

5:35 -- Tote Galway Plate 2m 6f 111y -- The feature race of the day, and indeed the whole meeting, is the Galway Plate. A field of 25 runners where Dermot Weld has THREE KINGDOMS - Pulled up 25/1 who is priced about 16/1 and yet to show any real form in past 12 months.

The other fancies to look for are SLOWMOTION [3rd 14/1] for trainer Joseph O'Brien who is yet to finish out of the first two in his last six starts along with SHANESHILL [2nd 3/1] for Willie Mullins who has at least five runners here (and one of the reserves too).

6:15 -- 1m 123y Handicap -- SO YOU THOUGHT [2nd 3/1].

6:50 -- 1m 123y Maiden -- SANSIBAR JEWEL [5th 4/6F]

5 Selections and 2 additional runners today - all beaten.

Day Three results; Still no joy for Mr Weld, and it is becoming sad that such a great name appears to be coming to the end of his powers. No winners at his favourite festival and even his odds on shots are being well beaten. Looking at tomorrow he's only got a couple of runners where in past seasons he would be double handed in many of the handicaps.

D Weld p/l for the week +/- [-13.00]
Overall week p/l to date +/- [-15.00]
Summer, Horse Racing, Galway, Irish Women, Guinness = Life IS Good.

Results to update later tonight, and Day Four should be ready by then, not forgetting our other updates this week from the 'Glorious' Goodwood meeting.
