Welcome to Kempton Park racecourse here for another season of evening meetings following the events on a Wednesday night on the all weather flat track under the lights. We will be blogging throughout 2021 till the end of the year. Dropped a few points here last time out, but we are still ahead after our good start to the year. We've plenty of other sporting action to enjoy, my team AFC Wimbledon were losing 1-0 with seconds to go but Ollie Palmer scored an equaliser away at Blackpool in League One it finished 1-1 so we remain in the bottom four for now, while Tuesday night we've another game at Plough Lane against Burton Albion however lost that 0-1 and deep in the relegation battle again. We are looking ahead to the Imperial Cup meeting at Sandown on Saturday while the Cheltenham Festival is of course next week minus Gordon Elliott.
Back to the horse racing all results here are reported to 1pt at Starting Prices (SP) we will be keeping a rolling record of profit/loss all the way through from January till the Boxing Day King George fixture in December. After our first couple of months worth of meetings we have a +29.43 profit and will continue to keep a record to SP throughout 2021.Throughout the year we will keep up with our occasional lay opportunities of anticipated short priced favourites too. Naturally we will keep these results separately from the handicap figures we had been fairly successful with our selections throughout last year managed to get plenty of favourites beat so we finished on 33/49 (67.34%). We reset the counters for 2021 and will be continuing this throughout the year again. Currently standing at 8/11 (72.7%) after the latest meeting and we shall see how things progress during the year ahead.
This week we look forward to the eighth Wednesday evening meeting of the year and sadly it's still being held behind closed doors as we are in the latest national lockdown. Tonight we shall be expecting a nine race card with all bar one handicaps for us to review. Our action will now commence at 16:10 with our first handicap contest for fillies over six furlongs and we should end the card around about 20:15 with our final handicap event over a seven furlong trip.
Here's a link to this Wednesday's race card; RACECARD Going and Weather -- The going on the polytrack surface is described as 'standard to slow' and the current weather forecast for this Wednesday is for a lot of chilly weather and it's probably just as well there is no attendance tonight as there's likely to be plenty of rain plus the temperature will only reach a high of 10C tonight.
Here are our handicap selections for tonight;16:10 Unibet Extra Place Offers Every Day Fillies' Handicap (3yo)
6f [Class 5 12 runners]
Our opening handicap is for 3yo fillies, Mummy Bear [WON 3/1] a Richard Hannon inmate could be expected to improve for the experience having placed a couple of times at Lingfield this race wouldn't need much improvement to see her in front. Where as the likes of Colorando [7th 9/2] having won over 7f at Lingfield comes back in trip but has plenty of experience on all weather tracks for her young age and should make that count too.
16:45 Unibet Casino Deposit 10 Get 40 Bonus Handicap
6f [Class 6 10 runners]
Daring Guest [7th @15/2] regularly places on the all weather and with his jockey, Laura Pearson, taking off a valuable 5lb could well enter calculations at an attractive price once more in this contest. Bluebell Time [10th @50/1] is our other selection against the field, she won first time out last season and this might be the best time to catch her right.
17:45 Unibet 3 Uniboosts A Day (London Middle Distance Qual) Handicap (3yo)
1m 2f 219y [Class 4 5 runners]
The feature handicap of the evening has only attracted a field of five and while Dancing King looks to be the short priced favourite here we are going to oppose with Bowland Park [4th @22/1] who was bumped up into Listed grade on his third run as a 2yo and although finished down the field at a big price this should be more suitable as a starting point as a 3yo. Also looking to keep Side Shot [2nd @7/4] on side this Frankel colt should appreciate the trip now for the late Prince Khalid Abdullah (Juddmonte).
18:15 Try Our New Price Boosts At Unibet Handicap (3yo)
1m [Class 6 14 runners]
At the head of the handicap here Woodview [5th @10/3] has been placed three times on the all weather is selected to try and get his head in front, while lightly raced and a runner up in January at Newcastle Musaytir [3rd @18/1] is given a chance with Jack Mitchell taking over in the saddle, looks a big price in the early market and a place prospect at least.
18:45 Try Our New Super Boosts At Unibet Handicap (Div One)
1m [Class 6 12 runners]
The final handicaps have both been divided giving us extra handicaps to review the first division of the mile race can go to Act of Magic [4th @11/1] who was running on to take second when last seen at Lingfield, is given a chance to make that dash for the front at a more opportune moment. Dancing Jo [9th @20/1] races off a mark of 48 now having been tried at early 70s in the past. was placed in his last two runs and now has Charles Bishop in the saddle shouldn't be too far away.
19:15 Try Our New Super Boosts At Unibet Handicap (Div Two)
1m [Class 6 11 runners]
The second division can see Trepidation [WON @5/1] try to get back into the winners circle again, success at Wolves was then backed up here with a runner up place the very next day. While support for Air of York [8th @8/1] would be interest, he ran on strong to win here in January, showing that as a 9yo he still merits some respect in this low grade affair.
19:45 Racing Tv Handicap (Div One)
7f [Class 6 12 runners]
The final handicap has also been divided giving us extra handicaps to review the first division of the seven furlong event will be interested in Afro Blue [7th @7/1] who having opened his handicapping career off a high mark of 77 now dropped to a more realistic level off 54 and with a 7lb claimer (Frederick Larson) this could be within his grasps. While Viola Park [WON @11/2] is an old friend of ours and should run his race again was successful last time up at Wolves.
20:15 Racing Tv Handicap (Div Two)
7f [Class 6 11 runners]
The second division Raha [2nd @5/1] was a good winner at Salisbury last term and has had three reasonable runs on the all weather here including a fourth in a higher grade, continues to drop a few lbs in the handicap and ought to be close with his 3lb claiming jockey also helping. Global Style [3rd @7/2] a 6yo who still runs with credit as shown with two runner up efforts here towards the end of last year and the return to 7f should help, has tumbled down the weights to his current mark and David Probert rides.
Staked -- 16 points. Returns -- 16.5 points.
Results will appear here later during Wednesday evening. All results are accurate and recorded to SP returns to a 1pt win stake only and updated each meeting. Our winning start to 2021 was most welcome, the first couple of months have proved to be successful and our overall profit stands at +29.43 pts after meeting #7. We will update tonight's meeting #8 during the course of this evening. Enough winners to stop the losing run, profit now at +29.93 going into Cheltenham week.
Lays -- 8/11 We had a good season last year again with the lays, aiming at favourites and not afraid to take on short odds on shots too. The plan will be for at least one or two each meeting and we will keep those results separate from the handicaps. Successful lay tonight so moved to 9/12.
Tonight's Lays;
17:15 - Bobby on the Beat [7f 3yo Novice Stakes]. Lost 3rd 7/2
Our next midweek floodlit meeting here will be held during Cheltenham week on Wednesday 17th March so keep well and hopefully we can have a successful 2021.
