Welcome to Kempton Park racecourse here for another season of evening meetings following the events on a Wednesday night on the all weather flat track under the lights. We will be blogging throughout 2021 till the end of the year. Dropped a few points here last time out, but we are still ahead so January was a decent enough start, plenty of other sporting action to enjoy, AFC Wimbledon continued their poor run in 2021 losing 0-2 vs the Franchise FC experiment. Was also the end of the manager Glyn Hodges who was removed 'by mutual consent' over the weekend. Still have enjoyed my horse racing exploits with Cheltenham NH festival only about six weeks away and next weekend shall be up into the early hours following the climax of the NFL season Super Bowl LV with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers playing at their home stadium against the reigning champions Kansas City Chiefs.
Back to the horse racing all results here are reported to 1pt at Starting Prices (SP) we will be keeping a rolling record of profit/loss all the way through from January till the Boxing Day King George fixture in December. After our first month of meetings we have a +30.83 profit and will continue to keep a record to SP throughout 2021.Throughout the year we will keep up with our occasional lay opportunities of anticipated short priced favourites too. Naturally we will keep these results separately from the handicap figures we had been fairly successful with our selections throughout last year managed to get plenty of favourites beat so we finished on 33/49 (67.34%). We reset the counters for 2021 and will be continuing this throughout the year again. Currently standing at 4/6 with two lays both beaten last week we shall see how things progress during the year ahead.
This week we look forward to the fourth Wednesday evening meeting of the year and sadly it's still being held behind closed doors as we are in the latest national lockdown. Tonight we shall be expecting a seven race card with six handicaps to review. Our action will now commence at 16:55 with a novice stakes contest over a mile and we should end the card around about 20:00 with a stayers handicap event over just under two miles. There are no noted feature races tonight, the best being a class two handicap while the rest are class five and class six handicaps.
Here's a link to this Wednesday's race card; RACECARD Going and Weather -- The going on the polytrack surface is described as 'standard to slow' and the current weather forecast for this Wednesday is for a lot of chilly weather and it's probably just as well there is no attendance tonight as there's likely to be plenty of rain plus the temperature will only reach a high of 9C tonight.
Here are our handicap selections for tonight;17:25 Unibet 3 Uniboosts A Day Handicap
1m [Class 2 10 runners]
Our opening handicap is the best quality race of it's kind tonight, we've a decent field of ten runners where BORN TO BE ALIVE [WON 18/1] has another chance off this mark having finished runner up at Newcastle, is still fairly lightly raced for a 7yo. The bottom weight runner STARSHIBA [6th 13/8f] carries a 5lb penalty for his latest win and should be followed while in good heart, Hollie Doyle rides and shouldn't be far away. Great start to this week, profit assured in the opening handicap. Nice.
17:55 Unibet Extra Place Offers Every Day Fillies' Handicap
1m 2f 219y [Class 5 11 runners]
5yo mare FILLES DE FLEUR [8th 8/1] trained by Gary Moore, placed several times on the all weather and overdue a success which might come here amongst her fellow fillies/mares. PLANSINA [7th 8/1] is a consistent mare having won a few times at Wolves and was runner up here on what was her first try at the track.
18:30 Unibet Casino Deposit 10 Get 40 Bonus Handicap
1m 2f 219y [Class 4 7 runners]
The only course and distance winner in the field is NO NAY BELLA [3rd 6/1] who has won here multiple times and she must have a big chance again in this grade. Another course winner is PARTY ISLAND [WON 15/2] who having won here over a mile then stepped up in trip and won again at Lingfield over this trip. Although this is step up in class he's improving and only a 4yo could still go very close again in a small field.
19:00 Unibet New Instant Roulette Handicap (3yo)
6f [Class 5 7 runners]
A six furlong sprint confined to 3yo's and only a small field of seven declared, KEVIN THE MINION [2nd 9/1] might be a maiden but has placed on a few occasions and should find a handicap in him sooner or later. TWILIGHT MADNESS [WON 10/11f] had three runs and then won his opening try in a handicap here just over a week ago, Hollie Doyle rides again and must be high in the equation tonight.
19:30 Try Our New Super Boosts At Unibet Handicap
7f [Class 4 10 runners]
Plenty of experience in BABY STEPS [2nd 7/2] who won last time out at Wolves and is a regular placed horse, so looks like a reliable "run for your money" type in this field, only 3lb higher for that win. Only had one previous try around this course, when 3rd back in June, has raced with credit in better quality events too. ASDAA [5th 8/1] is our other selection against the field tonight, trained by Mark Johnston and runner up on his last two races. Now coming back to Kempton after a short break and the same mark so would expect to place at the very least again tonight.
20:00 Join Racing TV Now Handicap
1m 7f 218y [Class 6 10 runners]
We conclude again with the stayers handicap, WEMYSS POINT [2nd 9/2] is a 9yo dual code horse, stayed on when runner up at Lingfield last time and stamina no issue, down a few pounds on his flat handicap mark and rated 135 over hurdles. TINSMITH [4th 17/2] is another lightly raced 6yo with the ability to stay this trip well and should give the favourite plenty to think about, only a 1lb rise for that latest run.
Staked -- 12 points. Returns -- 29.41 points.
Results will appear here later during Wednesday evening. All results are accurate and recorded to SP returns to a 1pt win stake only and updated each meeting. A winning start to 2021 was most welcome, and although the last meeting incurred a small loss we still have +30.83 pts profit after meeting #3. We will update tonight's meeting #4 during the course of the evening, with a winner in the opening handicap for us at 18/1 and followed up with another good winner we are certain of another profit this week +17.41 tonight, so a profit figure of +48.24 overall to the next meeting.
Lays -- 4/6 We had a good season last year again with the lays, aiming at favourites and not afraid to take on short odds on shots too. The plan will be for at least one or two each meeting and we will keep those results separate from the handicaps. One winning fav, one beaten horse, so 5/8 going forwards now.
Tonight's Lays;
16:55 - Echo Point [1m 3yo Novice Stakes]. Won 10/11f
20:00 - Heron [1m 7f+ Handicap]. Lost 9th
Our next floodlit meeting here will be held on Wednesday 17th February so keep well and hopefully we can have a successful 2021.
