KEMPTON PARK RACES 2019 -- WEDNESDAY NIGHTS #1 9th JANUARY

KEMPTON PARK RACES 2018 -- WEDNESDAY NIGHTSHAPPY NEW YEAR and welcome to the start of another season here under the lights at Kempton on Wednesday.

Hope you all had a bumper Christmas and although the decorations are down at home the lights will remain on here at Kempton Park this year. We are hopeful of better season than we experienced last year but it's just some fun and excitement to mix up the week. The flat season proper is a few months away and we've the exciting festivals over the jumps to enjoy too. Away from the horses the appointment of Wally Downes as new AFC Wimbledon manager has resulted in us picking up a few wins and essential points as we try and stay in league one for another year, we also won in the FA Cup on the weekend so expecting a nice draw on Monday night to help the finances
.

Lets begin with our first Wednesday night of 2019, and will continue to focus on the handicap contests for each Wednesday evening meeting though we will also occasionally include a feature listed or conditions event too if one is available. Keeping records of our endeavours to a 1 point level stake at SP, naturally we will personally be looking to get better odds than this but for the purpose of these results here we simply record SP returns only.

KEMPTON PARK RACES 2018 -- WEDNESDAY NIGHTS

Once more this year we will keep up with our occasional lay opportunities of anticipated short priced favourites too. Naturally we will keep these results separately from the handicap figures, last year we had a 66% strike rate 22/33 and as we begin the new year we will once more keep accurate figures win or lose.

This Wednesday is meeting number ONE for the 2019 AW season and we are expecting a bumper eight race card tonight with no less than Six Handicaps this week for us to look through and enjoy,  the action which will commence at 16:15 with a seven furlong Handicap contest and the card ends about 19:45 with a six furlong handicap for Amateur Riders.

Here's a link to this Wednesday's race card; RACECARD

The going on the polytrack surface is described as 'standard to slow' and the current weather forecast for this Wednesday is for a cold day with some cloud cover and a top temperature will only be about 6C by the time the meeting gets underway so please wrap up warm, take a hip flask too.

Here are our handicap selections for tonight;

16:15 -- 7f Handicap.

Our opening contest tonight has a max field of 14 declared and are a fairly sorry bunch to be fair. At least in COOL ECHO [WON 8/1] and JAI HANUMAN [Non Runner] there is still some potential here, lightly raced and have reached the frame on some occasions so are selected but any market support should be noted as this will not take a lot of winning.

17:15 -- 1m Handicap (3yo).
A field of ten three year olds next for us, the mile trip shouldn't be an issue for MITIGATOR [Non Runner] having been at least this far in the past, along with EMMA POINT [6th 13/2] they should both be involved in the finish. Most are stepping up in trip from their 2yo form but most seem to be bred to appreciate further in time so will stick with our pair against the field.

17:45 -- 1m 2f 219y Handicap.
The fact that MAGIC MIRROR [5th 7/2] won here last December and returns for another go off only a 4lb raise is interesting, clearly improved having had two prior attempts here finishing 3rd and 2nd, is taken to use that experience once more and come out on top.

UNIT OF ASSESSMENT [2nd 7/2] is another worth keeping on the good side of, already a winner around Lingfield and Wolves should enjoy this additional trip and some improvement would put him right there too.

18:45 -- 6f Handicap (3yo).
Another race for three year olds (appear to all be fillies) where CHERRY COLA [4th 7/1] (Mick Channon) and DOTTY GRAND [9th 6/1] (Jamie Osborne) can help to give us a nice return tonight. There's not much to split most of these so again any significant market moves might be worth noting.

19:15 -- 7f Handicap.

A field of eleven where the consistent course and distance winner CHETAN [11th 8/1] is a selection to follow while in the right mood a similar case can be made for the bottom weight VIOLA PARK [4th 4/1] who usually runs well here and another to score last time around this track although followed that up with a second placing at Wolves.

19:45 -- 6f Amateur Riders Handicap.
We end with a sprint handicap for Amateur riders where a field of nine have been declared. Will always prefer to take side with a respectable rider which brings in both DRAKEFELL [6th 6/1] (Miss S Brotherton) and NATIONAL GLORY [3rd 11/2] (Mr S Walker).

While Human Nature looks the one to beat tonight, is a bit too short for us in the handicap betting and we'll prefer these pair against that.

Staked -- 12 points.
Returns -- 11 points. [1 Winner 2 non runners]

Results will appear here later on Wednesday night. A nice winner and couple of non runners means a -1 point loss to start off 2019 with. The lay got beat so we not too shabby.

LAYS -- 22/33 last year.  We reset for 2019 and will see if we can do better if we have one or two Lays tonight they will be updated here. Success tonight so 1/1 for the year. Nice

Tonight's Lays;
HUMAN NATURE [19:45] -- Lost 5th 15/8F.
2018 AW season at Kempton under the lights

Our second meeting for this year will be held on Wednesday 16th January so hope to see you then and throughout 2019 too.
