2019 NFL DIVISIONAL WILD CARD PLAYOFF WEEKEND

As we head closer to the end of season and Superbowl LIII we are down to the final eight teams who will contest the Divisional Playoff games this weekend and put themselves into the Championship games for the right to play in the finale at Atlanta's Mercedes-Benz Stadium on February 3rd.

We can expect some cracking games this weekend who can win to keep their season alive and who will be watching Superbowl LIII from the comfort of their sofa?

I fancy the Indianapolis Colts to beat the Houston Texans on Saturday night with their star Quarterback Andrew Luck back in top form they should be hard to beat. the other AFC wild card game is on Sunday evening (UK times) where the Los Angeles Chargers are my pick to beat the Baltimore Ravens. The Chargers are not the biggest or best in the NFL by a long way but they've been finding ways to win and I think they can edge this one

Over in the NFC the first game is Dallas vs Seattle and it's the Cowboys who I think will up their game after a lacklustre final weekend or two when their place in the playoffs was already secured. They'll be plenty of love for Pete Carroll who has managed to get the Seahawks into contention in what was expected to be a rebuilding season. The final wild card game this weekend and the Chicago Bears will need to be in top form to hold off the defending champions Philadelphia Eagles, with Superbowl winning Nick Foles back for the Eagles they have upped their game again and I think that might be the extra 5% needed to win though there are reports that he'll be leaving them at the end of the season.

Saturday 5th January 2019
AFC WILD CARD
HOUSTON TEXANS  7  vs  21  INDIANAPOLIS COLTS
21:35   Venue: NRG Stadium
The Colts sealed this Wild Card contest in the first half with three unanswered touchdowns to see of the Houston Texans and move into the next round against the Kansas City Chiefs next Saturday. Touchdowns from Eric Ebron, Marlon Mack and Dontrelle Inman in the first half meant that the Colts could almost coast the second half and continue their amazing run of wins having started out as 1-5 in the opening half of the campaign.

Sunday 6th January 2019
AFC WILD CARD
BALTIMORE RAVENS  17  vs  23  LOS ANGELES CHARGERS
18:05    Venue: M and T Bank Stadium
A lacklustre first half of 'action' with only four field goals from the Chargers kicker Michael Badgley to show for it. Hopefully the second half is a little better. Melvin Gordon scored the first touchdown in the 4th Quarter of the match to help the Chargers lead 20-3 (2 pt Conversion successful) and a poor game seems to have been settled by the Phillip Rivers led Los Angeles side. A late rally saw the Ravens score twice but then fumbled their final drive and the Chargers managed to see it out and win.

NFC WILD CARD
DALLAS COWBOYS  24  vs  22  SEATTLE SEAHAWKS
01:15    Venue: AT and T Stadium
Dallas Cowboys won a see-saw game with the Seattle Seahawks to progress into their first conference title game since the 1995 season after edging the Seahawks, 24-22, on Saturday at AT and T Stadium. It wasn't just about Dallas QB Dak Prescott as both running back Ezekiel Elliott and wide receiver Amari Cooper also came through with big individual performances with Cooper proving to be an outstanding mid season acquisition from the Oakland Raiders. Seattle have impressed this season which was expected to be a rebuilding one, and they doing a great job of that to reach the playoffs, surely a side to follow next season.

Dallas now await Sunday's Bears-Eagles winner to find out whether they travel to the Saints or Rams next weekend. .

NFC WILD CARD
CHICAGO BEARS  15  vs  16  PHILADELPHIA EAGLES
21:40    Venue: Soldier Field
Defending Super Bowl champions the Philadelphia Eagles advanced in the NFL play-offs after Chicago Bears kicker Cody Parkey missed a game-winning field-goal attempt in a 16-15 thriller.

Parkey hit the post and crossbar on his 43-yard attempt in the final seconds giving the Eagles the win and they will now face the top seed New Orleans Saints away in the National Conference divisional round, while the Los Angeles Rams host the Dallas Cowboys, with both games on Sunday..

Wow I got all four games correct, wish I had backed them now.

Will update with the final scores later over the weekend and then look forward to the AFC and NFC Divisional Round next weekend 12th-13th January.
