2019 NFL DIVISIONAL PLAY OFF WEEKEND

As we head closer to the end of season and Superbowl LIII we are down to the final eight teams who will contest the Divisional Playoff games this weekend and put themselves into the Championship games for the right to play in the finale at Atlanta's Mercedes-Benz Stadium on February 3rd. We can anticipate some cracking NFL games this weekend, who can win to keep their season alive and who will be watching Superbowl LIII from the comfort of their sofa with a cold beer? (me)

NFL Season 2018-19 Superbowl LIIIThe opening game on Saturday is in the AFC where Kansas City Chiefs will face Indianapolis Colts. Patrick Mahomes vs Andrew Luck if you like, the outstanding rookie quarterback Mahomes is going to be difficult to stop and with Andrew Luck also in great order I feel this might be a high scoring shoot out. Kansas to win this for me, I think they have a stronger offence and although the Colts had an amazing end of the season the Chiefs have been thereabouts throughout.

Sunday morning (UK time) it's the turn of the LA Rams to take on the Dallas Cowboys in the first of the two NFC divisional games and while the Cowboys cannot be taken lightly they have thrown in the occasional duff performance and yet the Rams put together an impressive regular season to win the NFC West and their home form of 7-1 is impressive and Dallas are nowhere near as good on the road (losing record of 3-5) therefore I side with the Rams here to simply overpower the Cowboys with their offence.

New England Patriots vs Los Angeles Chargers, no upsets expected here, New England win, they just always do .... isn't that right Bill.

And the final game of the weekend sees the defending Superbowl champions Philadelphia Eagles take on the New Orleans Saints and that looks a great match up. Two Superbowl winning Quarterbacks in Nick Foles and Drew Brees bring a quality to this tie, Brees has been breaking more records throughout this season and the Saints will fancy their chances of another crack at the big one. As much as I like the way Nick Foles and his Eagles side have gone about their business in the latter part of the campaign I just see New Orleans edging this one in a close game.

Saturday 12th January 2019
AFC DIVISIONAL PLAY-OFF
KANSAS CITY CHIEFS  31  vs 13  INDIANAPOLIS COLTS
21:35  Venue: Arrowhead Stadium
The chiefs cruised into the AFC Divisional Championship game with a comfortable win over the Colts. In the difficult and snowy conditions it was Patrick Mahomes who ran the show and passed for 278 yards as well as scoring a touchdown too. They'll face the Patriots or Chargers for a place in this year's Superbowl.

Sunday 13th January 2019

NFC DIVISIONAL PLAY-OFF
LOS ANGELES RAMS  30  vs  22  DALLAS COWBOYS
01:15  Venue: Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum
The LA Rams defeated the Dallas Cowboys 30-22 on Saturday night at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. The Rams will face the winner of Sunday's Eagles-Saints clash. CJ Anderson carried the load for a Rams rushing attack that ran 48 times for 273 yards. The bulky back who didn't have a job a little over a month ago ran 23 times for 123 yards and two touchdowns and served as a wrecking ball. Anderson led the way, but wasn't alone in Los Angeles' ground assault. Todd Gurley returned to play for the first time since Week 15, ripping up the Coliseum turf for 115 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries. For Dallas Ezekiel Elliott, the game's most prolific rusher over the last three seasons, was held to just 47 yards on 20 carries.

AFC DIVISIONAL PLAY-OFF

NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS  41  vs  28  LOS ANGELES CHARGERS
18:05  Venue: Gillette Stadium
As expected the New England Patriots bulldozed their way into the AFC Championship for the 8th season in a row and the only surprise was that the margin of victory wasn't higher they certainly took the foot off the gas pedal in the second half and will be a strong favourite to win next weekend in this form.

NFC DIVISIONAL PLAY-OFF

NEW ORLEANS SAINTS  20  vs  14  PHILADELPHIA EAGLES
21:40  Venue: Mercedes-Benz Superdome
A much tighter affair saw New Orleans beat last years Superbowl Champions and will face the LA Rams in next weekends NFC Championship game. More details on those games next Sunday will come soon.

Times shown are GMT

Having predicted all four matches last weekend correctly also 4/4 again this weekend. Can I get next weekends Championship games and the Superbowl correct for a full house?

Will update with the final scores later over the weekend and then look forward to the AFC and NFC Championship Games next Sunday 20th January.
