ROYAL ASCOT 2016. DAY FOUR FRIDAY 17th JUNE

Friday Weather update -- A good deal of cloud on Friday though all places will probably stay dry. With all the cloud temperatures will be down a little compared to Thursday. Forecast High of 18C

Going -- SOFT

DAY FOUR
Well done to all connected with yesterdays Gold Cup winner ORDER OF ST GEORGE and in particular to the friends of mine that back that with their lotto winnings and doubled up nicely. Well done guys.

The opening race is at 2:30 it's the ALBANY STAKES a race for 2yo fillies and has a field of 16 runners declared for a 6f dash.

Have seen CREATE A DREAM win here during my birthday meeting in April and was only just hanging on at the end, could still have found some improvement since then but the competition here is a lot stiffer.

Godolphin are going well with their Ascot team this year so ROMANTIC VIEW would be of some interest in the market, along with the likes of QUEEN KINDLY who was well fancied when winning on debut for Richard Fahey.

2:30 Result

1st -- Brave Anna (J A Heffernan) 16/1
2nd -- Bletchley (Oisin Murphy) 16/1
3rd -- Queen Kindly (J P Spencer) 13/2

The KING EDWARD VII STAKES is next off at 3:05 just the 9 declared 3yos' here.

LINGUISTIC bids to keep up a great record of always finishing in the first two on this his sixth outing.

The one for me is MUNTAHAA with John Gosden's colt having 3 runs, a 3rd in the Wood Ditton on debut was a good result and although it was only a Kempton maiden last time that he won was doing all his best work late on and at 10/1 would be a good win/place opportunity.

3:05 Result
1st -- Across The Stars (L Dettori) 7/1
2nd -- Beacon Rock (R L Moore) 7/2 fav
3rd -- Muntahaa (P Hanagan) 10/1

A relatively new race at 3:40 is the COMMONWEALTH CUP a GROUP 1 race run over 6f for 3yo's.

A field of 12 declared and it's clear that QUIET REFLECTION will be strongly fancied based on recent wins at Chantilly and Haydock.

Washington DC let me down very badly here in April so won't want to get burned twice, a lively outside could be BURATINO.

3:40 Result
1st -- Quiet Reflection (D C Costello) 7/4 fav
2nd -- Kachy (R Kingscote) 14/1
3rd -- Washington Dc (R L Moore) 8/1

At 4:20 it's another fillies event and this time it's around the mile track for 3yo's,THE CORONATION STAKES.

ALICE SPRINGS seems like a good place to start, has top form in the 1000 Guineas finishing third to stablemate Minding, should be close.

Form on soft going would be an advantage this week and that would apply to NOW OR NEVER and this Irish raider can be supported at about 16/1.

4:20 Result

1st -- Qemah (G Benoist) 6/1
2nd -- Nemoralia (O Peslier) 4/1
3rd -- Alice Springs (R L Moore) 8/1

At 5:00 we have the DUKE OF EDINBURGH stakes over 1m 4f a race that has attracted 19 runners, once we eliminate the reserves.

Her Majesty has FABRICATE here off bottom weight and has never been out of the first three in five career starts, this of course is his biggest test to date but interesting at around 12/1.

Top weight ELITE ARMY has four wins from six career starts and those include a couple of wins over course and distance, so despite the weight burden should be expected to run up to his best.

5.00 Result

1st – Kinema (F M Berry) 8/1
2nd – Elite Army (James Doyle) 9/2F
3rd – Kings Fete (R L Moore) 13/2
4th – First Sitting (G Baker) 14/1

Our finale on Friday is now the 2m QUEENS VASE off at 5:35. 19 runners declared for this test of stamina on the rain affected Soft ground.

Plenty of runners from across the Irish Sea and a victory for either COLE PORTER and LANDOFHOPEANDGLORY would be music to our ears (pun intended).

Support for another Irish runner EBEDIYIN would also look significant given the good form of Dermot Weld coming into this meeting.

5.35 Result

1st -- Sword Fighter (C O'Donoghue) 33/1
2nd -- Harbour Law (G Baker) 8/1
3rd -- Twilight Payment (K J Manning) 20/1

And that's all for Friday, last day tomorrow, hopefully you are doing as well as we are this week despite the rain.
