AFC WIMBLEDON - LEAGUE ONE 1st 10 GAMES PLAYED 2021-22 SEASON REPORT

AFC Wimbledon League One 2021-22 Season
Now we've witnessed the first 10 league games of the 2021-22 season here for the Dons lets have a short catch up and review where we currently stand. 14th in the league table on twelve points was a reasonable start but it's begun to falter a little with three defeats back to back. Mark Robinson is still the man to trust with the squad still showing plenty of promise even though we probably a little light but that's the budget we have I suppose. Getting loan signings from Premier League clubs is about time, and they not just making up the numbers either.

LEAGUE ONE
Began the season back in early August with a 2-1 win against Doncaster Rovers, then an exciting 3-3 draw with Bolton Wanderers and another 1-1 draw against Gillingham. Then came our first defeat against Sunderland 1-0 up at the Stadium of Light. August ended with a 2-2 draw against Ipswich Town with a 95th minute equaliser for the Dons by Jack Rudoni.

The second run of games into September also saw some late goals, but started with a 3-1 victory over Oxford where we came from 1-0 down and showed many of us that we could have a decent season with plenty of youth and spirit. Then we went up to Morecambe and a see-saw contest say another late winner from Ayoub Assal to secure three valuable points at that stage 4-3. That was our peak in the opening games, as three defeats in the league followed 1-0 to Plymouth, who did a real hatchet job on us, then 2-1 against Shrewsbury having taken the lead in that one, and most recently the 3-0 defeat by Rotherham.

I'm still happy with what we've seen so far, we are having more options, don't rely on one striker for goals, and the new signings seem to have come together. Yes we will lose games that's understandable for anyone that's seen us for the past few seasons but we do show enough at times to suggest that we should not be facing another relegation battle this time? Could do with another win very soon to stop the run of losses, and we still got the FA Cup to enjoy.

EFL Carabao Cup
Reached the 3rd round this season having seen off Charlton 1-0 and Northampton 1-0 in the earlier rounds, then drew an away trip to Arsenal. No surprise to be seen off by their second string which was still full of internationals 3-0 but acquitted ourselves well enough and this was never a priority for this season.

KEMPTON PARK HORSE RACING 2021 - MEETING #24 WEDNESDAY 29th SEPTEMBER

Kempton Park Twilight Meetings 2021

Welcome to Kempton Park racecourse a season of evening meetings following the events on a Wednesday night on the all weather flat track under the lights. We will continue blogging throughout 2021 till the end of the year. Started well this season pleasantly still ahead as we push on through Aug/Sept still in profit and less than half the season to go. Away from the horse racing we've seen AFC Wimbledon hosting Plymouth Argyle last weekend and threw away a lead again to lose 1-2 sadly. It will be Burton Albion coming to Plough Lane next weekend and Tuesday night we face Rotherham United too which ended in another defeat 3-0 sadly. Also the Ryder Cup which was played at Whistling Straits Golf Course, Wisconsin and won by the strong USA team led by Steve Stricker. There's another meeting at Pontefract for us next Monday 4th October too with Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe meeting at Longchamp and Champions Day at Ascot coming to us during October.

Returning to the horse racing all results here are reported to 1pt at Starting Prices (SP) we will be keeping a rolling record of profit/loss all the way through from January till the Boxing Day 'King George' fixture in December. A successful opening first half of the year during 2021 went a little behind in July but now we are back in front during September and following last weeks 25/1 winner we've seen the profit for the season rise to +46.805 points after the last meeting and we will continue to keep a record to SP throughout the season.
Kempton Park Racecourse
Throughout the year we will keep up with our occasional lay opportunities of anticipated short priced favourites too. Naturally we will keep these results separately from the handicap figures we had been fairly successful with our selections throughout last year managed to get plenty of favourites beat so we finished on 33/49 (67.34%). We reset the counters for 2021 and will be continuing this throughout the year again. Currently standing at 26/34 (76.47%) after another success at the latest meeting and we shall see how things progress during the year ahead.

This week will be our 24th Wednesday evening meeting of the year. Tonight's meeting we shall be expecting an eight race card with six handicaps for us to review, this is due to the division of the 7f contest creating an additional contest so we will begin half hour earlier tonight. No 'feature' contests the best of the action is a 1 mile Class 2 handicap due off at 18:00 and our action will now commence at 17:00 with a 2yo novice event for fillies event over six furlongs, then we should end the card around about 20:30 with the final handicap event over just under two miles.

Here's a link to this Wednesday's race card; RACECARD
Going and Weather -- The going on the polytrack surface is described as 'standard to slow' and the current weather forecast for this Wednesday is for a somewhat cloudy afternoon and early evening with a fair chance of showers in the forecast and a highest expected temperature of around 16C tonight.

Here are our handicap selections for tonight;
18:00  MansionBet Beaten By A Head Handicap
1m  [Class 2  9 runners]
Imperial Sands [9th @4/1] is a lightly raced 3yo who won here on his debut and probably found the step into listed class a little too hot plus the soft ground at Sandown might not have suited. A return to a sounder surface back here should see him in better light and one to consider over the mile. Also interested in The Turpinator [7th @13/2] a 4yo who only has four previous races for Marcus Tregoning another previous winner here but that was nearly two years ago, has raced only twice since then and missed his 3yo campaign but has returned to the course with a runner up place, one of the more likely types here.
Winner - (1) Kenzai Warrior @20/1 [Jack Mitchell].

18:30  Follow MansionBet On Twitter Handicap
1m 2f 219y  [Class 3  13 runners]
Top weight might not stop Bugle Major [6th @5/1] from having a big say, was runner up in France early in the season and has two more near misses since, was staying on when beaten 1/2l by a long odds on shot latest. Sky Power [2nd @5/2] owned by the King Power Racing club was a good 2nd at Goodwood two runs back, has an all weather success albeit at Southwell and this is a very open contest but still relatively lightly raced over this trip.
Winner - (8) Pistoletto @28/1 [Darragh Keenan].

19:00  MansionBet Watch And Bet Handicap (3yo)
1m 2f 219y  [Class 5  12 runners]
A field of twelve, all 3yos, Red Flyer [2nd @9/2] is of interest if his clear cut success at Windsor can be repeated here. Has had three runs here at the start of his career and then began to step up in trip, the booking of William Buick tonight is a plus. Eagle's Realm [10th @25/1] is a big price dual purpose horse, runner up at Chelmsford about a year ago, no weight here and available at 25/1 so is a selection that I'll back in the place markets too.
Winner - (11) Limited Edition @8/1 [S Levey].

19:30  Download The MansionBet App Handicap (Div 1)
7f  [Class 6  14 runners]
This event has been split into two divisions the opening half can go the way of Always Dreaming [Non Runner] who returns to 7f now and down a few pounds from the handicapper, also has the 5lb claim from jockey Elisha Whittington, ought to be close. Defilade [6th @10/1] won last time out at Wolves over this trip with Shane Kelly riding again, only led on the line to catch the leader that day, needs to be timed right if played late once more.
Winner - (1) Los Camachos @7/2 [Grace McEntee].

20:00  Download The MansionBet App Handicap (Div 2)
7f  [Class 6  14 runners]
The second division could be one for 3yo Bobby On The Beat [9th @11/2] who has been placed in slight higher grade events than this and now has the Champion jockey Oisin Murphy to help matters for trainer Michael Bell. Desert Marathon [6th @9/1] is a 3yo filly trained by Charlie Fellowes and has the valuable 5lb claim from Saffie Osborne which should help. Has been running into places but dropping down the handicap, is still lightly raced and there is potential still, decent odds on offer in a lowly race.
Winner - (5) Helluvaboy @25/1 [Ray Dawson].

20:30  MansionBet Proud To Support British Racing Handicap
1m 7f 218y  [Class 6  14 runners]
George Baker supplies top weight Highway One [8th @6/1] in the stayers finale, a decent enough mare over this trip and this sort of level, wins at Lingfield as well as here this term showing that even as a 7yo still has the winning touch, should go well once more in this company. Eagle One [5th @5/2] trained by Amanda Perrett has been runner up last two runs, and hasn't run here since his debut but since being stepped up in trip has appeared to improve, another you shouldn't be too far off at the finish and a place bet too for us @12/1.
Winner - (11) Percy's Prince @14/1 [Rob Hornby].

Staked - 12 points.       Returns - 1 points.
Results will appear here later during Wednesday evening. All results are accurate and recorded to SP returns to a 1pt win stake only and updated each meetingOur winning start to 2021 has returned and we are now back in the black to the tune of +46.805 points to a level stake at SP coming into this week's 24th meeting. Terrible night, losing 11 points with no sign of a winner, means we have a reduced profit of +35.805 points to carry over to the next meeting.

Lays -- 26/34 We had a good season last year again with the lays, aiming at favourites and not afraid to take on short odds on shots too. These continue to go quite well given we are past the half way point of the year, and they are generally very short prices, including another successful fav beaten during the last few meetings. The plan will be for at least one or two each meeting and we will keep those results separate from the handicaps. First favourite beaten tonight, sadly the 1/5f didn't fail to shine and we therefore have a record of 27/36 now.
Tonight's Lays;
17:00 - Calm Skies  [6f 2yo Fillies Novice].  LOST 7th @6/5f
17:30 - Migdam  [1m 2yo Novice].  Won @1/5f
Kempton Park Racecourse

We will have another midweek floodlit meeting here on Wednesday 6th October so keep well and hopefully we can have a successful 2021.

🏇 PONTEFRACT HORSE RACING SYSTEM - 2021 SEASON - MEETING #14 23rd SEPTEMBER

 Pontefract Racecourse

PONTEFRACT SEASON 2021.

Welcome to this our fourteenth meeting of the 2021 season taking place on Thursday 23rd September

1st race 1.45pm.
Going: Good to firm
The highlight of our second September meeting is the Dalby Screw Driver Handicap. In the early 19th century, ‘Screw Driver’ set the Pontefract pulses racing. He won at least two ‘Cup’ races, back then these consisted of four heats over two miles on the same day. The overall winner being the horse with the best aggregate score over the 8 miles! He is the earliest Pontefract course specialist on record. Today's race is due off at 14:55 and is now run over 1m 2f instead of the longer staying trip, plus they only have to race once today not four times.

ALL results for these fixtures are recorded to a level stake at Starting Price (SP), and will also show any forecast results too in the daily results but these do not count for the profit / loss figures. After a good opening we have seen a few winners and at least secured a small profit on the last two meetings up till last week, sadly that was a complete blow out with loads of runners up and no wins. So sadly we saw our deficit climb again to
-36.88 points onto this fourteenth meeting this afternoon.

Going / Weather: The forecast going is now currently reported as 'Good to firm' while the weather for Thursday afternoon is for a generally cloudy day with a light breeze but we are not expecting any showers the forecast maximum temperature around the 20C mark.

Here are our selections for the seven races taking place on Thursday afternoon, remember it's a very simple selection process using stalls one and two in every race;

13:45 Northern Commercials Used Vehicles Ebf Maiden Stakes

(1) - Kodebreaker.  [3rd 10/1]
(2) - Eldrickjones.  [WON @2/13f]

(2) - Lituus.  [11th @12/1]

17:15 Malcolm Willstrop Memorial Apprentice Handicap
5f 3y  [Class 6  7 runners]
(1) - Jorvik Prince.  [7th @9/2]
(2) - Gorgeous General.  [2nd @6/1]

Staked -- 14 points.
Returns -- 9.653 points.
Having started the 2021 season afresh, we had a nice start early on but sadly begun to fall behind now as we begin to reach the latter part of this season on the track. After the opening thirteen meetings we did have a couple of winning fixtures but are sadly still -36.88 points behind coming into this fourteenth fixture, the results for today will be updated during Thursday afternoon as we try to claw back a little more again. Small loss again today, shame, now -41.227 points behind with only two more fixtures to save us.
Pontefract Horse Racing 2021 Season

The penultimate fixture here for this season will be held on Monday 4th October so we do hope you will follow the action for these final meetings of 2021.

KEMPTON PARK HORSE RACING 2021 - MEETING #23 WEDNESDAY 22nd SEPTEMBER

Kempton Park Twilight Meetings 2021
Welcome to Kempton Park racecourse a season of evening meetings following the events on a Wednesday night on the all weather flat track under the lights. We will continue blogging throughout 2021 till the end of the year. Started well this season pleasantly still ahead as we push on through Aug/Sept still in profit and less than half the season to go. Away from the racing we had AFC Wimbledon hosting Plymouth Argyle last weekend and lost 0-1 in a game we should have won comfortably, tonight we will be at The Emirates facing Arsenal in the League Cup third round. There's another meeting at Pontefract for us tomorrow too with The Arc meeting and Champions Day at Ascot coming to us during October.

Returning to the horse racing all results here are reported to 1pt at Starting Prices (SP) we will be keeping a rolling record of profit/loss all the way through from January till the Boxing Day 'King George' fixture in December. A successful opening first half of the year during 2021 went a little behind in July but now we are back in front during September albeit with a reduced profit of +20.93 points after the last meeting and we will continue to keep a record to SP throughout the season.
Currently standing at 25/32 (78.12%) after the latest meeting and we shall see how things progress during the year ahead.

This week will be our 23rd Wednesday evening meeting of the year. Tonight's meeting we shall be expecting an eight race card with four handicaps for us to review. No 'feature' contests the best of the action is a class 3 handicap due off at 19:15 and our action will now commence at 16:40 with the first handicap event over a mile trip, then we should end the card around about 20:15 with the final handicap event over six furlongs.

Here's a link to this Wednesday's race card; RACECARD
Going and Weather -- The going on the polytrack surface is described as 'standard to slow' and the current weather forecast for this Wednesday is for a somewhat cloudy afternoon and early evening with a fair chance of showers in the forecast and a highest expected temperature of around 21C tonight.

Here are our handicap selections for tonight;
16:40  Adoha's One Let's Have Some Fun Handicap
1m  [Class 6  14 runners]
One of only two winners over this trip in the field the 6yo mare Emerald Fox [5th @14/1] ticks plenty of boxes here, is only 1lb higher than her last win (Lingfield 16/12) so only one other run this season might be able to show enough to score again tonight.  Another mile winner last time out (again at Lingfield 16/08) Lago Bay [9th @11/1] has the 3lb claimer George Rooke on board once more, shouldn't be far off once again in a low grade race lacking in depth despite the field of fourteen.
Winner - (8) Whatzupwithme @12/1 [Philip Prince].

19:15  Follow MansionBet On Twitter Handicap (3yo)
1m 2f 219y  [Class 3  5 runners]
A very small field of five runners, the short price favourite is Barn Owl a very comfortable winner at Beverly last time and Roger Charlton's colt out of Frankel has an excellent opportunity to follow up here. Too short for us in the handicap to be a pick so will try and take it on with the 'March' pair ... March Law [2nd @11/1] (Mark Johnston) was runner up in the Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot so clearly is decent and would be strongly fancied to give the fav plenty to think about, while support for Marching Army [WON @4/1] (S Bin Suroor) appears for the Godolphin owners hasn't quite hit top gear, but can improve and the small field might help.
Winner - (4) Marching Army @4/1 [Hollie Doyle].

19:45  MansionBet Watch And Bet Handicap
1m 3f 219y  [Class 6  13 runners]
Temple Lock [WON @25/1] having only his third run on the all weather trained by Eve Johnson Houghton, got ahead to win a small field race at Bath, still only a 3yo so plenty of time to score again, this is a low grade event and coming back to this trip might help if able to settle with Charlie Bishop in the saddle now. Riverfront [12th @9/1] is an Andrew Balding inmate, winner early in his career at Windsor over this trip, has been slowly sliding back down the handicap since that win and tonight might see the 5yo perform better with strong handling from David Probert a positive booking.
Winner - (4) Temple Lock @25/1 [C Bishop].

20:15  Download The MansionBet App Handicap
6f  [Class 6  12 runners]
Secret Potion [8th @33/1] is an experienced 7yo from Ronald Harris' yard and still proved had plenty of winning spirit when scoring back to back wins earlier this summer. Wouldn't be a surprise to win another class six contest and one of the more likely types tonight. Pinball Wizard [WON @15/8f] has landed the no1 stall, and won a similar looking event here last month for trainer Clive Cox. Adam Kirby rides now, though couldn't justify favouritism next time at Salisbury when attempting to make all this return to the all weather might favour him.
Winner - (10) Pinball Wizard @15/8f [Adam Kirby].

Staked - 8 points.       Returns - 33.875 points.
Results will appear here later during Wednesday evening. All results are accurate and recorded to SP returns to a 1pt win stake only and updated each meeting
Our winning start to 2021 has returned and we are now back in the black to the tune of +20.93 points to a level stake at SP coming into this week's 23rd meeting. Nice couple of winners so far, including a big 25/1 shot to boost out profits for the season one race to come, and we picked up the final winner too which gave us a healthy profit tonight of +25.875 and overall we have +46.805.

Lays -- 25/32 We had a good season last year again with the lays, aiming at favourites and not afraid to take on short odds on shots too. These continue to go quite well given we are past the half way point of the year, and they are generally very short prices, including another successful fav beaten during the last few meetings. The plan will be for at least one or two each meeting and we will keep those results separate from the handicaps. Two favs tonight, one beaten one sadly was victorious albeit as odds on. So we are 26/34 now.
Tonight's Lays;
17:15 - Random Harvest  [1m  Fillies Novice Stakes].  Lost 3rd @13/8f
18:15 - Golden Warrior  [6f  2yo Novice Stakes].  Won @8/11f
Kempton Park Racecourse

We will have another midweek floodlit meeting here on Wednesday 29th September so keep well and hopefully we can have a successful 2021.

AFC WIMBLEDON vs PLYMOUTH ARGYLE - LEAGUE ONE HOME FIXTURE 2021/22 SEASON [18th SEPTEMBER]

AFC WIMBLEDON vs PLYMOUTH ARGYLE

Saturday 18th September 2021 3pm
AFC Wimbledon will host their latest League One game at Plough Lane for the 2021-22 season against Plymouth Argyle, it's been an impressive start to the campaign, often very exciting, plenty of goals and late winners. Including last weekend's 94th minute strike from Ayoub Assal to give us a 4-3 away win. That victory puts the Dons on 12 points and as high as 4th place in League One after their opening seven games

league one table
Good to see that the new players are looking to have bonded well and we are already sharing the goals around so the burden of losing Joe Pigott to Ipswich has not been the problem it could have been, it gives me no pleasure to see Ipswich at the lower end of the table either. Back to today's fixture though, with a game against Arsenal on the horizon I hope that Mark Robinson has the squad focused on the three points available here first. We are also finally scoring more frequently from set pieces, the delivery of which from Anthony Hartigan has been significantly improved this season, and I would expect a few chances for the likes of Will Nightingale and Ben Heneghan to continue that run.

Recent League One Results
Morecambe 3 - 4 AFC Wimbledon.
Plymouth Argyle 3 - 0 Sheffield Wednesday.
League One Season 2021/22

Onto today's game itself this Saturday in League One and our opponents today, Plymouth Argyle are well known to us as our victims in the play off final back in 2016. They currently sit in 8th place in League One, with 11 points after just six games played. Early days for both sides, but good to see a positive start and this ought to be another cracker of a contest at Plough Lane. Last weekend they ran out comfortable winners at home against Sheffield Wednesday and will be no easy push over today. Managed by Ryan Lowe who brought them back into League One at the first attempt having left Bury in 2019.

Head to Head
Our head to head form against Plymouth Argyle since our return to the league as AFC Wimbledon includes that famous win at Wembley in the League Two play off final. Nineteen previous meetings since our return to the league, seven wins each and five draws, we are fairly evenly matched it appears. Both are currently free scoring sides, should be entertaining.

  • Penalty to be awarded and scored @7/2.
  • Bookings over 45 points @11/5.

Half Time
Score - 0 - 0

First Half Comments;
We are underway at Plough Lane, where if several results go our way we could feasibly go top today with a win. The Dons have the first effort on target as Ben Heneghan has a header saved from an Anthony Hartigan set piece, positive signs as we should be more prolific from these opportunities. Aaron Pressley also has a shot saved as the Dons are pressing early doors, a breakthrough would be welcome in front of the packed home crowd. Early booking for Ethan Chislett too, it's an eventful first fifteen minutes. Both Will Nightingale and Ayoub Assal also see their efforts saved by Michael Cooper in the Plymouth goal, hope this dominance continues, just need that breakthrough now. Half time comes so fast and sadly we have to go in all square at the break.

Full Time Score - 0 - 1  [Hardie 47']

Match Summary;
Very disappointed with that, dominate all game except for the two mins after the break, conceded a poor goal, then the Plymouth players time wasted for the rest of the match. Should have beaten this rubbish, three points dropped at home.

My Man of the Match - Anthony Hartigan.

Attendance - Not available, seems to be an issue with reporting our attendances this season. Annoying.

Today's Referee - Our match referee for this afternoon will be Mr Tom Neild, from West Yorkshire he's not only a football referee but also a senior nurse/matron with the Acute & Emergency Service at the Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust. Averages around three bookings a game, and will be ably assisted today by
Nicholas Cooper and Andrew Laver while our fourth official will be Louis Marks.

🏇 PONTEFRACT HORSE RACING SYSTEM - 2021 SEASON - MEETING #13 16th SEPTEMBER

Pontefract RacecoursePONTEFRACT SEASON 2021.

Welcome to this our thirteenth meeting of the 2021 season taking place on Thursday 16th September

1st race 2.15pm.
Going: Good to firm
Our second Art of Racing raceday will be on Thursday 16th September and will celebrate everything we know and love about The Sport of Kings. A day truly dedicated to The Art of Racing will feature a seven race card with the highlight the £30,000 EBF Fillies’ Handicap over 6f. Just three more meetings to follow to complete our season here in Yorkshire. This afternoon's 'feature' event on the card is the EBF Fillies Handicap over six furlongs. This is due off at 15:25 today,  will see if Vanitas remains in the final declarations later in the week a course and distance winner back in June [sadly she doesn't appear in the seven runner field]. This race was won last season by Simon Crisford's filly 'Last Surprise' pictured below.
Last Surprise last year's winner

ALL results for these fixtures are recorded to a level stake at Starting Price (SP), and will also show any forecast results too in the daily results but these do not count for the profit / loss figures. After a good opening we have seen a few winners and at least secured a small profit on the last two meetings. Despite this though we still have to carry over a deficit of -24.88 points onto this thirteenth meeting this afternoon.

Staked - 14 points.
Returns - 2 points.
Having started the 2021 season afresh, we had a nice start early on but sadly begun to fall behind now as we passed half way of this full season on the track. After the opening twelve meetings we did have a couple of winning fixtures but are sadly still -24.88 points behind coming into this thirteenth fixture, the results for today will be updated during Thursday afternoon as we try to claw back a little more again.

What a frustrating day that was, 5 seconds and 2 non runners, so we losing today again. -12 points overall sadly puts us back up again to -36.88 points.

The fourteenth fixture here will be held on Thursday 23rd September so we do hope you will follow the action throughout the season.

NFL 2021 SEASON - OPENING FIXTURES + UK GAMES

Tom Brady Tampa Bay QB
The opening match of the 2021 NFL Season should get underway with the traditional start featuring the current Superbowl champions Tampa Bay. Led to their 31-9 win in Superbowl LV over Kansas City by Tom Brady it will be interesting to see if they can keep up the winning run under their veteran quarterback. Plenty of new names within the NFL ranks, the likes of Drew Brees having retired at New Orleans and replaced at QB by Jameis Winston or will it be Taysom Hill who did stand in for Brees last season while Drew was out with a rib injury? Kansas City should have another good season with Patrick Mahomes calling the shots, they didn't really turn up in the Superbowl but they have all the weapons to go all the way again and use that experience. Aaron Rodgers looks like he's having another season at Green Bay, having looked to be close to retiring when they exited the playoffs last year.
