KEMPTON PARK HORSE RACING 2021 - MEETING #22 WEDNESDAY 25th AUGUST

Kempton Park Twilight Meetings 2021
Welcome to Kempton Park racecourse a season of evening meetings following the events on a Wednesday night on the all weather flat track under the lights. We will continue blogging throughout 2021 till the end of the year. Started well this season pleasantly still ahead as we push on through August still in profit and less than half the season to go. Away from the racing we have AFC Wimbledon travelling away to Sunderland for one of their first 'tests' of the season against the bigger sides in the division. Sadly a deflected effort for the hosts meant they won 1-0 and next week will be another test against Ipswich Town. We also look forward to the start of the Tokyo Paralympics this week.

Returning to the horse racing all results here are reported to 1pt at Starting Prices (SP) we will be keeping a rolling record of profit/loss all the way through from January till the Boxing Day 'King George' fixture in December. A successful opening first half of the year during 2021 went a little behind in July but now we are back in front with a profit of +30.93 points and we will continue to keep a record to SP throughout the season.

Throughout the year we will keep up with our occasional lay opportunities of anticipated short priced favourites too. Naturally we will keep these results separately from the handicap figures we had been fairly successful with our selections throughout last year managed to get plenty of favourites beat so we finished on 33/49 (67.34%). We reset the counters for 2021 and will be continuing this throughout the year again. Currently standing at 24/31 (77.42%) after the latest meeting and we shall see how things progress during the year ahead.

This week will be our 22nd Wednesday evening meeting of the year. Tonight's meeting we shall be expecting a seven race card with five handicaps for us to review. The meeting includes another qualifier for the London Middle Distance Series which is due off at 20:30. Our action will now commence at 17:55 with a two year old novice stakes over a mile trip, then we should end the card around about 21:00 with the final handicap event for three year olds over six furlongs.

Here's a link to this Wednesday's race card; RACECARD
Going and Weather -- The going on the polytrack surface is described as 'standard to slow' and the current weather forecast for this Wednesday is for a somewhat humid afternoon and early evening with a fair chance of showers in the forecast and a highest expected temperature of around 21C tonight.

Here are our handicap selections for tonight;
18:25  Unibet Extra Place Offers Every Day Handicap [Div 1] (3yo)
1m  [Class 5  9 runners]
Opening handicap for us has been divided into two divisions of three year olds, the first of which could fall to Last Mission [6th @18/1] now entering handicaps for the first time, Jamie Spencer rides now and was 4th at 50/1 at Windsor last time while he won't be that price today would expect a decent effort. Also considering the chances of Golden Claim [4th @5/2] a course and distance winner in July, three runs here placed here last time off this mark not far behind the winner that day and James Doyle takes over in the saddle.
Winner - (10) Solomons Judgement @5/2jf [Robert Tart].

18:55  Unibet Extra Place Offers Every Day Handicap [Div 2] (3yo)
1m  [Class 5  10 runners]
The second division is similar in quality, the top weight Thunderclap will clearly be popular having won here last time out for Oisin Murphy but this is another step up and I'll side with the bigger prices of Ventura Vision [5th @9/1] from Mark Johnston's yard along with Aussie Rascal [9th @9/1] [Tom Ward] who didn't show on turf but was runner up here prior to those runs and could go well again at decent odds, that's my pair against the field tonight.
Winner - (1) Thunderclap @10/11f [Oisin Murphy].

20:00  Unibet New Instant Roulette Fillies' Handicap
1m 3f 219y  [Class 5  11 runners]
A middle distance event for the ladies, a dual winner earlier in the season Maxine [8th @17/2] was upped in the weights as a result so stopped in her tracks, has now started to drop a little and on this surface might well be able to go close again if we can strike a line through the last run at Lingfield where she was effectively pulled up. Running in the colours of Cheveley Park Stud Two Two Time [4th @9/2] lurks at the end of this handicap, a lightly raced filly who's only seen the all weather in four starts. Jockey Tom Marquand takes the reins tonight, looks a decent price around 16/1 and a place is the least we would be looking for.
Winner - (5) Summertime Romance @11/2 [Andrea Atzeni].

20:30  Unibet 3 Uniboosts A Day (London Middle Distance Series Qualifier) Handicap (3yo)
1m 2f 219y  [Class 3  7 runners]
Just the seven runners and with the Godolphin team in decent order at this point in the season would expect Marching Army [4th @8/1] to be closer here today than the disappointing run at Goodwood last time, won well at Leicester prior to that and price should be generous. Also having an interest in Zikany [6th @3/1] with Ryan Moore taking over in the saddle this trip ought to be ideal for Sir Michael Stoute's inmate.
Winner - (5) Tribal Art @16/1 [F Norton].

21:00  Try Our New Price Boosts At Unibet Handicap (3yo)
6f  [Class 6  12 runners]
We round off the meeting with a six furlong sprint for three year olds and I'm with Ray Day [12th @9/2] [Tr. Ed Walker] the filly having her first look at the all weather surface here and her first handicap attempt, ran with credit on all starts so far, this wouldn't need to be anything special to score. Also having an interest in Nurse Florence [3rd @5/1] [Tr. Jamie Osborne] who has a lot more experience and a win at Lingfield to show for her efforts, first time at Kempton for a trainer that does well here.
Winner - (9) Pinball Wizard @17/2 [N Callan].

Staked -- 10 points.       Returns -- 0 points.
Results will appear here later during Wednesday evening. All results are accurate and recorded to SP returns to a 1pt win stake only and updated each meeting
Our winning start to 2021 has returned and we are now back in the black to the tune of +30.93 points to a level stake at SP coming into our 22nd meeting. Disappointing evening where we drew a blank on the handicaps, still ahead by +20.93 points to SP though back end of September.

Lays -- 24/31 We had a good season last year again with the lays, aiming at favourites and not afraid to take on short odds on shots too. These continue to go quite well given we are past the half way point of the year, and they are generally very short prices, including another successful fav beaten during the last few meetings. The plan will be for at least one or two each meeting and we will keep those results separate from the handicaps. Another fav beat in the opener here keeping the recent run going. 25/32
Tonight's Lays;
17:55 - Peak Perfect [1m 2yo Novice Stakes]. Lost 3rd @85/40f
Kempton Park Racecourse

We will have another midweek floodlit meeting here on Wednesday 22nd September so keep well and hopefully we can have a successful 2021.
