Saturday 7th August 2021 3pm
AFC Wimbledon will open their League One game of the 2021-22 season away at Doncaster Rovers, our last trip up to the Keepmoat Stadium back in January saw the Dons slip to a 2-0 defeat. Pre season games have been underwhelming although at least the test events have allowed the stadium to open up further, and we all know that pre season is more about getting fit, and blending in new players. Yes we will miss the goals from Joe Pigott but hopefully it's an opportunity for the likes of Ollie Palmer to cement his place up front, and the youngster to show us what we can expect. I suspect we are in for another bottom half survival but the season starts here and anything is possible. We've several new signings, will take a few games naturally to see how the squad has settled down.
Onto today's game itself this Saturday in League One and our opponents today, Doncaster, having finished last season in 14th place accruing 64 points will certainly be one of the sides looking to push on for higher rewards this season. Managed by Richie Wellens (41) who was only appointed to the role in May 2021 and this will be his first full game in charge of Doncaster. Despite it being the opening game there is plenty to get excited about plus there's pride, performance at stake as well as the three points. Now without the retired James Coppinger will see who has to fill his boots now.
Head to Head
Our head to head form against Doncaster since our return to the league is very brief, only nine previous meetings so far equally shared three wins a piece and three draws. Our most recent game against them resulted in a 2-0 defeat and we need to do better this seasonStarting XI's [Confirmed]

First Half Comments;
Kick Off 3pm and The Dons get us underway for the start of a new season in League One. On the front foot immediately and win the opening corner in the first minute too, although comes to nothing. First quarter of hour passes and it's rather end to end although lacking a final effort for both teams, perhaps just bit early and finding one another out. In fact looking at the other games seems that goals are at a premium so far. Still goalless as we pass the half hour mark, only note is Anthony Hartigan collecting the first booking of the campaign for a foul. Ayoub Assal is bust up front supporting Ollie Palmer and has his shot saved as the visitors look to up the tempo before half time.
⚽Full Time Score - 1 - 2 [Seaman 46'] [Assal 57' McCormack 74']
Match Summary;
Going behind in the opening min of the second half didn't exactly help matters but we dug in and Ayoub Assal equalised before the hour mark and I think he's going to be a star player for us this term. Then we turn it full circle as Luke McCormick gives the Dons the lead from a free kick with a right footed shot to the bottom right corner and is then booked for his celebration.
My Man of the Match - Ayoub Assal.
Attendance - 6,419. With a few Dons making enough noise too, great to see fans back where they belong.
Today's Referee - Our match referee for this afternoon has been confirmed as Mr Samuel Barrott from Yorkshire, is a relative recent addition to the Football League list, averages three bookings a game, we had him twice last season both away games at Burton (1-1) and Bristol Rovers (0-0). Will be assisted on the touch lines by Thomas Harty and Robert Atkin and our fourth official today is Geoffrey Russell.
