KEMPTON PARK RACING 2020 MEETING #14 TUESDAY 15th SEPTEMBER

Night races at Kempton Park 2020
Welcome to Kempton Park racecourse here for another evening meeting as we return to regular action on the all weather flat track under the lights but behind closed doors for the time being. We will keep blogging throughout 2020 till the end of the year. British horse racing has safely returned behind closed doors as part of a phased return for the sport. In doing so we will be introducing strict protocols designed to safeguard everyone's health and well being and to ensure that racing can take place safely behind closed doors. These measures have been developed in consultation with government and public health officials to help keep those attending safe and include:

  • A three stage health check that all attendees on courses will have to pass;
  • Strict social distancing measures on course
  • Detailed new guidance for all participants on how they will have to do things differently on course in order that we can race safely and mitigate any risks.
In addition the courses are reducing the use of any medical or NHS services to a minimum, acting responsibly by using private ambulances, hospitals and medics – to protect the NHS. For those working at an event, including officials, racecourse staff and participants, the implementation of these guidelines ensures that racing will take place in a more controlled environment than most day-to-day activities.

Back to the horse racing all results here are reported to 1pt at Starting Prices (SP) was a month since out last meeting here, where sadly we dropped a couple more points but as we are now in September and after meeting #13 we find ourselves in a loss for the year to a figure of -26.765 points, results are always recorded to SP we will aim to get us back into the black again soon and see further improvement in the results.

Throughout the year we will keep up with our occasional lay opportunities of anticipated short priced favourites too. Naturally we will keep these results separately from the handicap figures we had been fairly successful with our selections throughout last year managed to get plenty of favourites beat so we finished on 40/54 (74%). We reset the counters for 2020 and will be continuing this throughout the year again. Currently a decent start with plenty of short priced favourites getting beat, one short fav beat last time we now have stats of 15/21 (71.42%) after the latest meeting.

We cover another rare Tuesday evening in this interrupted period which will be meeting #14 for the 2020 midweek season here. Tonight we shall be expecting a nine race card where six of these are handicaps including a pair of 2yo Nursery events. The action will still commence much earlier now at 15:55 with a seven furlong maiden stakes for 2yo fillies, we should end the card around about 20:10 with our final handicap contest also over seven furlongs.

Here's a link to this Tuesday's race card; RACECARD
Going and Weather -- The going on the polytrack surface is described as 'standard to slow' and the current weather forecast for this Tuesday is for a lot of cloudy weather but it is going to be warmer than recently with the temperature to reach around 29C by the time the meeting gets underway.

Here are our handicap selections for tonight;
16:30  Unibet Thanks The Frontline Workers Nursery
7f  [Class 6  14 runners]
Busy card and we have our first Nursery Handicap for 2yo, SPIRIT OF ROWDOWN [Non Runner] gets in with the lightweight and defied his big price in a nursery last time out at Lingfield where a repeat of that here should see him go close again jockey Isobel Francis against takes the ride claiming 7lb. MAY NIGHT [WON 4/1] could be interesting off a fairly low starting mark with a big yard (Andrew Balding) and top jockey (Oisin Murphy) booked significant interest in the better would not be a surprise.

17:05  Try Our New Runner Boost At Unibet Nursery
1m  [Class 6  10 runners]
Our next event is our second 2yo nursery this time over a mile, HARRIER HAWK [8th 11/1] was runner up in a maiden and should be close in this company for trainer Ed Dunlop, while DEVIL'S CUB [3rd 10/3] is already a nursery winner at Bath then came second at Chepstow of a 5lb higher mark and the experience should be useful again here.

18:40  Unibet 3 Uniboosts A Day Handicap
1m 3f 219y  [Class 5  8 runners]
The well bred MYSEVEN [WON 5/4f] having won at Lingfield over this trip last time and being out of Derby winner Golden Horn should be up to this sort of level as a 3yo, will be surprised if she's not fighting out the finish again. While CHAIRMAN POWER [3rd 6/1] might not be the finest 3yo in Sir Michael Stoute's yard but from the strong King Power Racing ownership this might be a nice introduction to handicapping.

19:10  Try Our New Runner Boost At Unibet Handicap (3yo)
1m 3f 219y  [Class 6  14 runners]
Fourteen runners, all 3yo's, and I think just the one winner between them all. FLYING STANDARD [3rd 4/1] won a classified stakes and this won't need much to win either, while Calm Down and Beat the Breeze have some place form to stake their claim. I'm siding with an outsider against the field with CASSIDY JO [6th 12/1] off bottom weight and lightly raced with David Probert in the saddle who rides well here.

19:40  Unibet Casino Deposit 10 Get 40 Bonus Handicap (Div One)
7f  [Class 6  14 runners]
Our final handicap has been split into two divisions and the obvious one heads the line up LIMARO PROSPECT [4th 5/4f] for top trainer Sir Mark Prescott, won over 6f, could be one for the trainer that usually starts cautiously then steps them up in distance, might be a short price, but one to follow as could well run up a sequence. AIGUILLETTE [2nd 10/3] has had a few opportunities and been runner up several times so is likely to be thereabouts again here and isn't going to have too many easier chances unless claimers / sellers are brought back again.

20:10  Unibet Casino Deposit 10 Get 40 Bonus Handicap (Div Two)
7f  [Class 6  14 runners]
The second division has another fourteen lined up will pick both CASHEL [3rd 9/4f] (M Appleby) a winner of higher mark at Chelmsford and MUSEE D'ORSAY [5th 5/1] (A Carroll) who is the only course and distance winner here, against the field though not a race with much depth.

Staked -- 12 points.       Returns -- 8.25 points.
Results will appear here later during Tuesday evening. This season we started afresh and will try hard to stop going well behind but all results are accurate and recorded to SP returns to a 1pt win stake only and updated each meeting. A disappointing start to 2020 now sees us behind after meeting #13 to the tune of
-26.765 overall and we need some more winners to get back into profit. Annoying efforts tonight in vain and an increase of deficit by -3.75, means it's now -30.515 overall to next week.

Lays -- 15/21. We had a good season last year with the lays, aiming at favourites and not afraid to take on short odds on shots too. The plan will be for at least one or two each meeting and we will keep those results separate from the handicaps. Mixed evening for the lays, two beaten but one other short favourite sadly one, now on 17/24.

Tonight's Lays;
15:55 - PORTFOLIO [7f Fillies Maiden] Lost 2nd
17:40 - DRIVING FORCE [1m Maiden] Won 5/6f
18:10 - LOVER'S MOON [1m Maiden] Lost 2nd Even Fav
