KEMPTON PARK RACES 2016 -- WEDNESDAY NIGHTS #10 9th MARCH

After a very welcome successful week last time out we have cleared away our losses and now go forward slightly ahead for the season (up +2 points). This coming few weeks will be busy with the Cheltenham Festival on the agenda too soon but we will remain here at Kempton on the Wednesday evenings and trying to push on with our profits.

As always our focus is on the handicap contests for each meeting but will occasionally include a feature listed or conditions event too. Keeping records of our endeavours to a 1pt level stake at SP, naturally we will personally be looking to get better odds but for the purpose of results we record to SP.

There will also be the occasional lay opportunity of short priced favourites and as a result of another successful lay last week we are now 4 from 4. Results for this will be kept separately too and hopefully we can remain at 100% for a while.

This week there's a 7 race card on offer, 6 of which are handicaps and includes another heat in the regular London Mile series which will be off at 20:10.

Here is a link to the evenings race card;

Our first race tonight gets under way at 17:40 it's a handicap over ten furlongs. The going on the polytrack surface as usual is described as Standard and we'll update the weather later though the forecast is for it to rain and a low of 3C.

Lets get cracking and here's my selections for tonight's handicap events;

17:40 -- 1m 2f Handicap
.
14 runners going to post for our opener tonight, nothing strikes us so am going to side with the 4yo's in the field which narrows it down to 4 strangely enough. Of those the pair that we will take the field on with are top weight FIRST SUMMER [6th 12/1] and TOP POCKET [3rd 9/2]. The latter of which should have a very strong shout if repeating his last run around here.

18:10 -- 1m 2f Handicap
.
Just 7 now for this class 2 contest, the front two in the handicap and also in the better are both owned by Godolphin (MAVERICK WAVE / RAZOR WIND) so we will oppose them both with OUR CHANNEL [WON 6/1]. A winner of 3 from 9 contests, and good enough to run over in Dubai last winter this ought to be within his scope.

18:40 -- 6f Handicap (Div 1)
The 6f sprint has been divided into two events, the opening division has a field of 11 and we'll take FLYING FANTASY [7th 6/1] and PERFECT BOUNTY [10th 9/1] against the field.

The draw means we have options from either side if they break well this could play into our hands, usually both up with the pace, about 9/1 each so good price and worth backing in the place markets too.

19:10 -- 6f Handicap (Div 2)
The stronger of the two divisions in my opinion making it all the more difficult to pick. While New Rich looks good I fancy that his chances would be higher if this was around Lingfield so will oppose, in fact will make that one my Lay for today [LOST -- 2nd 7/2 another winner].

My two win selections will be ROCKET ROB [7th 12/1] / POSH BOUNTY [8th 11/1] against the field and I hope to keep my Lays at 100% tonight.

20:10 -- 1m Apprentice Handicap (London Mile Series)
Nine Apprentices line up now for this latest qualifier in the London Mile series, where GIOVANNI DI BICCI goes for a hat-trick after wins here and at Chelmsford. However doesn't have the same rider and looks too short for this sort of competitive affair.

A chance is taken with ESTIBDAAD [2nd 25/1], the 6yo has plenty of form on the AW and also with Apprentice riders, and that could count for a lot as I can't find a regular partnership with the other runners. [Close but not quite, still great place bet Win].

20:40 -- 1m Handicap

Not the best event for a finale, and only CROWNING STAR [10th 8/1] is a tentative selection here with a rider who's slowly losing his claim and has partnered this fairly reliable horse in the past.

Staked -- 9 points
Returns -- 7 points.

Profit -- LEVEL (A loss of 2 points means we are level again heading into next week.)

Lays -- 5/5 (Still 100%, tonight's Lay lost again).

One winner tonight and a good place, which meant we had to surrender our profit figure this week back to nil. The Lays continue to be successful though and we will keep looking for suitable favs to get beat. See you next week for more plus it's Cheltenham Festival so will be updating the site with each days racing too.
