KEMPTON PARK RACES 2016 -- WEDNESDAY NIGHTS #9 2nd MARCH

Another visit to Kempton racecourse looms and we're in March already, where does the year go. Well sadly so far this year finds us slightly down for the season (down -5.875 points) which is not ideal but still is very early days as we have another 9-10 months ahead of us.

We continue to focus on the handicap contests for each meeting but will occasionally include a feature listed or conditions event too. Keeping records of our endeavours to a 1pt level stake at SP, naturally we will personally be looking to get better odds but for the purpose of results we record to SP.

There will also be the occasional lay opportunity of short priced favourites and as a result of another successful lay last week we are now 4 from 4. Results for this will be kept separately too and hopefully we can remain at 100% for a while.

This week there's a 7 race card on offer, 6 of which are handicaps and includes another heat in the regular London Middle Distance series which will be off at 18:45.

Here is a link to the evenings race card;

Our first race tonight gets under way at 5:45pm it's a handicap over a mile. The going on the polytrack surface as usual is described as Standard and we'll update the weather later though the forecast is for it to rain and a low of 3C.

Lets get cracking and here's my selections for tonight's handicap events;

5:45 -- 1m Handicap
The opening contest is a mile handicap, we've 14 declared and we're going to chance one drawn high and one low against the rest.

BOOKMAKER [10th 13/2] won well last time out here a couple of weeks ago and can strike again while in form, along with BLACKTHORN STICK [10th 16/1] who was keeping on in the same contest being Bookmaker and should be a danger again. [Dead heat for 10th with the opening pair, not the best start, it'll get better though]

6:45 -- 1m 3f London Middle Distance Series Handicap
Top weight and 10yo GAELIC SILVER [9th 20/1]
still has a race or two in him and gets on well with his claiming jockey, that 5lb should bring him into contention tonight.

MUSIC MAN [2nd 10/3] is the other selection against the field here, came back from a 2 year lay off to place here last time out, the bounce factor could be an issue but has no miles on the clock and worth a chance at decent odds.

7:15 -- 7f Fillies Handicap
It's the ladies turn now over 7f, just the eight declared tonight THREE GRACEZ [WON 9/1] wasn't too far away when last out and has been racing in France and along with course and distance winner BE ROYALE [4th 10/1] and both are priced about 9/1 so worth a bet against the field.

7:45 -- 1m 4f Handicap
Another field of eight here, and Andrew Balding doesn't send too many out on the AW so must have a good chance here with ROSE ABOVE [WON 9/2] who is our selection. Has been improving with each run and looked good stepping up to this trip at Lingfield last time, with reasonable improvement to come and slightly easier track must be NAP material.

8:15 -- 6f Handicap
The interesting one here is the twice raced and unbeaten THE BIG LAD [WON 11/8F] from Richard Hughes yard, winner of a maiden and then took his handicap easily should still be a few pounds ahead of the game if ready for this.

8:45 -- 6f Handicap (3yo)
Our finale is full of 3yo talent, and only a few pounds between them all, so it's likely that those with 7lb claimers on board will have a little more advantage.

Top weight BAHAMIAN SUNSHINE [2nd 11/2] will actually carry less than the bottom weight and is one half of our selection tonight along with CANFORD BELLE (Non Runner) who won here in September.

Staked -- 10 points
Returns -- 17.875 points. (3 winners and couple of places, a good nights work and back in front again)
Profit c/f to next week -- +2 points

Lays -- 4/4 (Still 100%, no selection tonight).

Results will be updated here during the evening.
