Welcome to Kempton Park racecourse here for another evening meeting as we return to regular action on the all weather flat track under the lights. We will keep blogging throughout 2020 till the end of the year. British horse racing having safely returned behind closed doors as part of a phased return for the sport. Now that the latest lockdown will have ended today the Government will be allowing a small amount of attendance at these events, Kempton Park is currently in Tier 2 so expecting a small number, who will need to go through a number of Covid checks before entry. Please check the guidelines published by the Jockey Club here LINK. We will have to see how this progresses during the rest of the year.
Back to the horse racing all results here are reported to 1pt at Starting Prices (SP) our last meeting here a week ago, where we managed a few wins, after meeting #25 we found ourselves in a loss for the year to a figure of -60.765 points, results are always recorded to SP we will aim to get us back into the winners enclosure again soon and see further improvement in the results.Throughout the year we will keep up with our occasional lay opportunities of anticipated short priced favourites too. Naturally we will keep these results separately from the handicap figures we had been fairly successful with our selections throughout last year managed to get plenty of favourites beat so we finished on 40/54 (74%). We reset the counters for 2020 and will be continuing this throughout the year again. Currently a decent start with plenty of short priced favourites getting beat, so we now have stats of 30/46 (65.21%) after the latest meeting.
This week we look forward to another Wednesday evening meeting during this interrupted period, this will be meeting #26 for the 2020 midweek season. Tonight we shall be expecting an eight race card with four handicaps to enjoy. The action will now commence at 15:50 with a six furlong novice stakes and we should end the card around about 19:25 with the stayers contest over just under two miles.
Here's a link to this Wednesday's race card; RACECARD Going and Weather -- The going on the polytrack surface is described as 'standard to slow' and the current weather forecast for this Wednesday is for a lot of chilly weather but mostly a clear day expected the temperature to reach around 8C by the time the meeting gets underway as Christmas rapidly approaches.
Here are our handicap selections for tonight;17:25 Unibet Extra Place Offers Every Day Nursery (2yo)
7f [Class 5 11 runners]
DASHING DICK [2nd 10/3] only lost out by a short head last time and a neck the one before at Chelmsford and surely capable of winning a race of this nature. While DEPUTY [6th 8/1] failed to see out the mile last time but was chasing the winner over this distance and as that was only his second race and should be suited to a return to this trip and track tonight.
18:25 Unibet 3 Uniboosts A Day Fillies' Handicap
1m [Class 4 6 runners]
Richard Fahey's 4yo filly TORNADO QUEEN [2nd 10/3] ran with credit when third at Wolves last time, has won twice earlier in the summer and looks a player again tonight in a small field. While ROMAN SPINNER [6th 11/1] is about 5lb lower than when winning here at this time last year, back amongst her own gender she can put her considerable experience to good effect.
18:55 Try Our New Price Boosts At Unibet Handicap
1m 2f 219y [Class 4 9 runners]
Previously with Richard Hannon, FLY FALCON [WON 7/2] is a 3yo with three previous runs, and can win again with the step up in trip looking to be in his favour. GABRIAL THE ONE [7th 12/1] is another for Dr Marwan Koukash and runs with credit regularly around Chester so it's interesting that he comes to the all weather again where has was a winner off a higher mark and his turn might be close once more.
19:25 Unibet New Instant Roulette Handicap
1m 7f 218y [Class 3 7 runners]
IMPERIUM [WON EVENS] has won two from three runs this year and that included a staying event here last month and clearly remains in good form so no surprise if he can repeat that again tonight. Another good stayer is DANCE TO PARIS [2nd 9/1] who is consistent, and gets plenty of weight here tonight so jockey Jim Crowley should have him well placed to strike.
Staked -- 8 points. Returns -- 6.5 points.
Results will appear here later during Wednesday evening. This season we started afresh and will try hard to stop going well behind but all results are accurate and recorded to SP returns to a 1pt win stake only and updated each meeting. A disappointing 2020 so far now sees us behind after meeting #25 to the tune of -60.765 overall and we need some more winners to see this reduced further with only a few more meetings to go this year. Despite two winners we still drop another -1.5 points tonight. Means we are -62.265 overall.
Lays -- 30/46. We had a good season last year with the lays, aiming at favourites and not afraid to take on short odds on shots too. The plan will be for at least one or two each meeting and we will keep those results separate from the handicaps. A superb night for the lays tonight, all three favourites were beaten, including two odds on shots. 33/49 now.
Tonight's Lays;
15:50 - Caribbean Sunset [6f 2yo Novice Stakes]. LOST 4th 10/11F.
16:20 - Maraakiz [7f 2yo Novice Stakes]. LOST 9th 5/4F
16:55 - Highland Avenue [7f 2yo Novice Stakes]. LOST 2nd 1/4F
Our next evening meeting here will be next week Wednesday 16th December hope you can join us again soon but most importantly remain safe and well.
