AFC WIMBLEDON v LINCOLN CITY LEAGUE ONE SATURDAY 2nd NOVEMBER 2019

AFC WIMBLEDON v LINCOLN CITY LEAGUE ONE

This weekend the Dons will play host to Lincoln City in League One, both sides had their games called off last weekend for different reasons the Dons would have been due to play Bury FC who sadly are no longer in the league and Lincoln saw their fixture against Bolton Wanderers called off due to a waterlogged pitch. So with both sides rested we expect a good game and a win for the Dons just might get us out of the drop zone for a change. Lincoln City have said farewell to the Cowley Brothers and have a new management team now with Michael Appleton at the helm. They currently find themselves in 17th place on 17 points in League One and have suffered a few defeats since losing their inspirational management team that gained them two promotions however Appleton is a man to steady the ship and will have them well prepared to face the Dons today.

AFC WIMBLEDON v LINCOLN CITY LEAGUE ONE

LAST TIME OUT

Burton Albion 1 AFC Wimbledon 0
Lincoln City P Bolton Wanderers P
[Postponed waterlogged pitch].

Updates will be published with team news and more news as and when it comes through. Dons recent form is fairly good and picking up a few wins of late has given us a chance of moving out of the relegation zone even though the season is only a few months in this would be a big boost before the FA Cup game next week. The Dons are currently 21st in the league on only 12 points but just one point off the side above. Going to be very cold and grey out there, maybe the action on the pitch will warm the crowd, with Marcus Forss and Joe Pigott leading the line up front and the solid Will Nightingale at the back we will do our best to keep the Lincoln danger at bay, that will come from the likes of John Akinde and also Tyler Walker who is on loan from Nottingham Forest and also the son of Forest and England legend Des Walker.

⚽H/T Score – 0 - 1  [Payne 31']

First Half Comment;
Wimbledon kicked off to get us underway here at Kingsmeadow though it was Lincoln who started stronger creating the first few chances which the Dons defence cope with, weather conditions are poor which might make it difficult too as the game goes on. The game has evened out as we pass the half way point of the first half, with the best of the chances falling to Lincoln's Tyler Walker who hits the post and we remain goalless. The half hour mark sees the first goal come and sadly it's the visitors that score it, Jack Payne taps home from inside the six yard box and their attacking presence pays off, the Dons have to regroup and fight to get back into this. They've huffed and puffed but still find themselves one down at half time, Mitch Pinnock picking up a booking in stoppage time.

⚽F/T Score – 1 - 1  [Appiah '92]

Match Summary;
Dons secure a welcome point in stoppage time from Kwesi Appiah and that gets us out of the bottom three and drops the scummy franchise into the drop zone. That's all we need to say as it feels like a win.

My Man of the Match – Got to give it to Kwesi Appiah for the injury time goal that puts us above the franchise. Cheers.

Referee -- Our referee for this afternoon's big game will be James Linington from Newport, has been taking charge of Championship games this season so hopefully doesn't look on this as a demotion.
🟨 🟥Averages about 3 cards a game this season but has been known to get the reds out too so we might have a look at that market later. His assistants will be Ian Cooper and Mark Jones.

Attendance – 4,378.
