NFL 2017 INTERNATIONAL SERIES GAME 4 -- MINNESOTA VIKINGS vs CLEVELAND BROWNS

Sunday 29th October 2017

Minnesota Vikings vs Cleveland Browns

@ Twickenham Stadium 1:30pm

The 4th and final International series game in the UK will again take place at Twickenham Stadium and continues the four game series in London which has been shared between Wembley and Twickenham. Another sell out crowd is expected for these popular matches and kick off will be at 1.30pm

Current season record

 Minnesota Vikings

    - P7 W5 L2 F146 A119
 Cleveland Browns
    - P7 W0 L7 F103 A169
This match on paper appears to be very one sided sadly but hopefully will still provide adequate entertainment for the expected full house here at Twickenham nonetheless. Minnesota come in with a strong winning record which cannot be said for the Cleveland Browns who are still looking for their first season win and also ended last season with a 1-15 record so the odds are stacked in the favour of the Vikings. Cleveland at least went close to that elusive victory last weekend only losing in the last few minutes of overtime 12-9 against the Tennessee Titans. Last weekend the Vikings managed a 24-16 home victory against the Baltimore Ravens and are the 'Away' side here today but they are strong favourites with a handicap of -9.5 to cover. As such I do expect a high scoring game but perhaps one sided game, however if Cleveland can open the score it could be interesting so will be backing the 'Overs' Half time and Total Points markets and cover the handicap spread in favour of the Minnesota Vikings.

For those of you not coming to Twickenham this Sunday afternoon it's a joy that this match will be screened live on the the BBC as it has been in recent years. And don't forget the excellent NFL Show with Jason Bell and Osi Umenyiora together with host Mark Chapman which is on all season twice a week (Tues/Sat). The Superbowl itself will also be shown live on BBC1 in early February 2018.

Have a fun day.

1st Quarter;
Case Keenum will start as Quarterback for the Vikings today, recovering from a recent chest injury, his opposite number will be rookie DeShone Kizer who has been benched twice in recent games but surely deserves to start and try and get some confidence.

Cleveland kick off to get this final UK series contest this afternoon here in Twickenham the ball is caught in the end zone and therefore the Vikings will start their opening drive from their 25 yd line and despite picking up a quick 1st down they are soon picked off with a Joe Schobert interception for the Browns and they take over on the 37 yd line just two plays later it's Isaiah Crowell running 26 yds into the end zone for a touchdown. Browns lead 6-0, missing the extra point attempt, but good start for the 'host' side.

Vikings struggle to advance and have to punt on 4th and 3, however the ball is dropped by the Cleveland Browns Bryce Treggs and recovered by Minnesota's Emmanuel Lamur but they also incur a 15 yd penalty although it's still good field position given it should have been the Browns to return. Case Keenum comes back out with the offence on the Browns 35 yd line looking to get on the scoreboard but failed to convert in the red zone and settled for a 35 yd field goal by Kai Forbath with still plenty of time left in the opening quarter. Cleveland take the ball from their own 25 yd and progress slowly to the 43 where they miss a big pass on 3rd down and have to punt it away. It's tight in the opening quarter as the Vikings take the ball from their 15 yd line with less than three mins on the clock. The running game is slow progress but I guess has been an effective weapon and Latavius Murray runs up the middle for another first down for the Vikings but they still inside their own half and then that soon gets cancelled out with a penalty on Rashod Hill causing 2nd and 21 and they lucky not to be intercepted again as the quarter comes towards an end with the Browns back in possession on their 36 yd line.

2nd Quarter;

It's 6-3 to the Browns as the 2nd quarter starts, the Browns in possession on their 39 yd line, their first play is a completed pass from Kizar up to the half way line and then it's just a few yards each time but failing to secure another 1st down so another punt away, this is becoming frustrating that no side can put a drive together. We need one of these to start throwing the ball or finding some gaps, at least the Vikings achieve this to a small degree but it's starting from their own goal line so they only up to their 27 yd line, where what looked like a great play (potential catch and run 41 yard advance) is cancelled out by an offensive penalty taking them back to their 12 yd line and this is going to be a long afternoon. A good play by Adam Thielen for 22yds makes another 1st down and the Vikings move forward a little more and then a penalty on 3rd and 8 means that they advance into Cleveland territory 1st and 10 from the 45 yd line but have to punt away because these useless receivers simply cannot catch a ball. Not surprised that Cleveland haven't won a game since they cannot move the ball and the only shock here is that they still lead.

Case Keenum starts another drive on the 40 yd line and here's hoping it can lead to some points on the board so we will have something to cheer with only six minutes in the half left. David Morgan gives the Vikings a first down with a 14 yard catch and run that with a couple of runs from Jerick McKinnon takes them inside the 23 yd line and suddenly the Vikings are on the move and have to convert this into something surely. And hallelujah we have a 18 yard pass to Adam Thielen for the touchdown (but again the point after is missed) and it's 9-6 now to the Vikings.

After the two minute warning DeShone Kizer throws deep and finds Ricardo Lewis for 38 yards up to the Vikings 44 line and that is followed by another big play and penalty and suddenly the Cleveland Browns are alive and it's 1st and Goal from the 6 yard line with little over a minute to play now.

Three attempts to rush in takes them into the end zone from the 1 yd line by quarterback Kizer and the extra point is successful too so as the half is about to be called the Browns retake the lead 13-9. The Vikings have only 34 seconds on the clock though but with three time outs they manage to use it well and get inside field goal range to reduce the lead to just a single point with a 34 yd kick from Kai Forbath.

Half Time -- The Browns have the lead despite only have possession for 9:15 compared to 20:45 for the Vikings. Pleased to say that we have a football game on!

H/T Score;    Minnesota Vikings 12 -- 13 Cleveland Browns.

3rd Quarter;

Minnesota kick off the second half, Kai Forbath sends the ball to the Cleveland 22 yard line. But their drive lasts one play as the ball is stolen by Anthony Harris and the Vikings are on the Browns 30 yd line but are unable to make further inroads and are stopped resulting in a 43 field goal from Forbath so the Vikings lead again now 15-13 with only 90 seconds of the 3Q played.

Forbath keeps busy this half and kicks off again and this time the Browns return it 72 yards by Matt Dayes so the Browns have a great chance again from the Vikings 31 yd line as a result. Another 1st down gain from Isaiah Crowell takes Cleveland into the red zone again, where they couldn't complete a pass and then also missed the 35 yd field goal which ruins an otherwise impressive offensive drive, doesn't take long for the Vikings to send it back after a 40 yd punt which is returned to the Cleveland 40 yard line lets hope they can do a bit better than the last series.

Browns quarterback Kizer takes them up to the 34 yd line where they complete another 1st down on 3rd and 6, making 9 yards and are into the red zone once more, can they complete this time? More penalties come there way too and it's 1st and Goal from the 6 yard line, and still no joy they have 3 goes and are almost intercepted on the goal line the result is another field goal from 23 yards which is good and the lead changes hands once again.

Vikings time to move down the field as Case Keenum slips the pressure to send the ball downfield to Adam Thielen for 29 yards and they are up to the Cleveland 33. More penalties make it 1st and goal from the 1yd line where Jerick McKinnon runs into the end zone for a touchdown and the Vikings go for the 2pt conversion which is successful and the lead is back with the Minnesota Vikings 23-16.

And not only does that give the Vikings a nice lead but it also means we've managed to win the "Over Points market" which was set at over 38. Thank you.

4th Quarter;

Cleveland having to punt away as the final quarter begins, and with two massive penalties the Vikings are quickly down to the Browns red zone inside the 5 yard line looking to increase their lead and they do with a great catch and footwork from Kyle Rudolph to get it done and it's 30-16 with the extra point as the Vikings start to pull away in the final quarter with a two touchdown lead which means we also looking good for the -9.5pts handicap spread too.

As we head towards to latter half of this quarter the Browns look like they have run out of puff and have continued to go three and out, punting away for the Vikings to run the game, no further scores for a while and it looks like job done. A few injuries being picked up but both sides have a bye next weekend so can rest after the trip home, now into the last five minutes here at Twickenham. The final nail in the coffin comes when Cleveland try a 4th and 10 inside their own half but DeShone Kizer is sacked for a loss and turnover so the Vikings can have another chance to extend the lead from the 32 yd line as we reach the two minute warning. And a final 51 yard field goal by Kai Forbath makes it 33-16 as the seconds tick off to the final whistle.

The win for Minnesota improves their record to 6-2 while the hapless Cleveland Browns go to 0-8 and you have to feel a bit sorry for their fans who sit through this ever game.

F/T Score;    Minnesota Vikings 33 -- 16 Cleveland Browns

KEMPTON PARK RACES 2017 -- WEDNESDAY NIGHTS #29 25th OCTOBER

And they are off...
Welcome to our twenty ninth meeting of 2017 here at Kempton Park and after last weeks loss we have an even bigger deficit to overcome and come into this week with a sum of -45.17 points to level stakes at SP. We are into the last three months of this year long blog and whatever happens will reset on Jan 1st and go again into 2018.

As we continue to focus on the handicap contests for each meeting we will also occasionally include a feature listed or conditions event too. Keeping records of our endeavours to a 1pt level stake at SP, naturally we will personally be looking to get better odds but for the purpose of these results here we simply record to SP returns.

View of the parade ring at Kempton Park

We will keep up with our occasional lay opportunities of short priced favourites too, our last pair of selections ended in a win and a loss so it's a mixed bag but to be fair they are all usually short price favs and undeterred we will see if there is another selection for tonight. Naturally we will keep these results separately from the handicap figures.

This Wednesday is our twenty ninth meeting for 2017 and we are expecting an eight race card tonight with three handicaps to enjoy so will include the Nursery event too, tonight's action will commence at 17:50 with the 1m Novice stakes.

Here's a link to this Wednesday's race card; RACECARD

The going on the polytrack surface is described as 'standard to slow' and the current weather forecast is for a cloudy day with a good chance of some rain, expecting a max temperature of about 17C by the time the meeting gets underway.

Our eight race card tonight now has three handicap contests for us to review so we will include the 2yo nursery as well, there might even be a lay bet but that will be updated later;

18:50 -- 1m Handicap.
Plenty among the fourteen runners that have win/place form but have shot up the weights as a result, taking a bit of a chance with two big price selections in the hope they come good later in the season than the others, so step up STERLING SILVA [4th 25/1] and TIGERWOLF [6th 6/1] both about 25/1.

19:50 -- 7f Nursery Handicap (2yo).
Just the seven for tonight's nursery event, we take THE MUMS [7th 10/1] for the in form Gosden yard, and also GHAYADH [4th 7/2] against the field. The latter won his opening maiden and then had to struggle in better company so should appreciate this grade.

20:20 -- 7f Handicap.
A field of fourteen for the next handicap event, and we always fancy Jamie Osborne's runner here so top weight OUTER SPACE [8th 33/1] a course and distance winner who has won off higher and might be able to put his considerable experience to good use.

NOBLE CONQUEST [14th 5/1] comes here off three maiden events and an inmate from Sir Michael Stoute it's a surprise if the forecast 25/1 price is actually realistic or not.

21:20 -- 1m 2f 219y Handicap.
Our finale tonight where top weight The Juggler looks a short favourite worth opposing and we will add that one to our lays tonight, and instead we plan to side with SAGA SPRINT [6th 25/1] and MCDELTA [4th 8/1] against the field.

Staked -- 8 points.
Returns -- NIL points.

Results will appear later tonight. Currently we have a deficit of
-45.17 points that we bring forward to this round of racing and after another wipe-out it's increased to
-53.17.

LAYS -- After last weeks successful effort we now stand at 12 from 20 for this season, those 8 unsuccessful ones were all at short odds, will try to get a few more favourites beaten before the end of the season. Now 13 from 22.

If we have one or two Lays tonight they will be updated here.

- ZILZA [19:20 - 6f Maiden] WON 5/4F.
- THE JUGGLER [21:20 - 1m 2f 219y Handicap] LOST 8th 3/1.

2017 AW season at Kempton under the lights

Our next meeting here at Kempton Park will be in a weeks time on Wednesday 1st November.

PONTEFRACT SEASON 2017
Monday 23rd October
Welcome to this our sixteenth and final meeting here in Yorkshire this season.

Pontefract Races 2017 meeting thirteen

Our sixteenth and final meeting for 2017 and have to be honest and admit that it has been a rather disappointing year in this thread were we keep finding too many 2nds / 3rds for my liking and are now down by the sum of -27.01 points for the season with only this final meeting to go. The final meeting on Monday will begin at 2:20pm and we hope for a success to round things off before we patch up our wounds for 2018. We WILL be back.

As always we count ALL results for this meeting returned to a level stake at SP, and will also show any forecast results too in the daily results but these do not count for the profit / loss figures.

Pontefract Races 2017 meeting thirteen

The forecast going is currently reported as 'Good to Soft, Soft in places' the weather for Monday is for a rather cloudy day and possibility of some scattered rain showers during the course of the afternoon with a forecast maximum temperature around 16C. Best to wrap up and take a brolly.

Here are our selections for the 7 scheduled races on Monday afternoon, remember it's a very simple selection process of the horses drawn in stalls 1 and 2 in every race;

2:20 1m 6y Nursery (2yo).
(1) -- BANREY GEORGE  [11th 10/1].
(2) -- HYANNA  [5th 9/2].

(2) -- ROYAL BRAVE  [6th 7/2].

Staked -- 14 points.
Returns -- 12.5 points.

Results for this afternoon's meeting will be updated later. As we seek to clear our current loss for the season from it's current value of -27.01 for this our final meeting. Two winners only today and a small loss of -1.50 points making a season loss of -28.51 sadly. Still it was 'fun' and we will return in 2018.

Pontefract Races 2017 next meeting 28th September

That's all for 2017 and while the season hasn't go as well as I had hoped we will still return for another crack in 2018. Hope you enjoyed it despite the results.

NFL 2017 INTERNATIONAL SERIES GAME 3 -- ARIZONA CARDINALS vs LOS ANGELES RAMS

Sunday 22nd October

ARIZONA CARDINALS vs LOS ANGELES RAMS

@ Twickenham Stadium 6:00pm

The 3rd of this seasons international games will again take place in London but we leave the delights of Wembley and move about 10 miles south to Twickenham Stadium and continues the four game series which has been shared between Wembley and Twickenham stadiums once again. Another sell out crowd is expected for these popular matches and kick off will be at the later time of 6pm

Current season record

Arizona Cardinals

    - P6 W3 L3 F119 A158
 Los Angeles Rams
    - P6 W4 L2 F179 A138

Another excellent match up for our third UK game with  Arizona taking on the LA Rams. With both teams winning last weekend it's the LA Rams who are starting to take some sort of control over the NFC West division and this match up might help one of them make fist of trying to win the division. Certainly if the LA Rams win it will take them to 5-2 and open up a bit of game at the head of this division. The Cardinals will now have running back Adrian Peterson playing for them  having been traded in after not making the starting line up at the New Orleans Saints, the 32 year old Peterson should give Arizona some more offensive options and provides plenty of experience too. The Rams seem a bit more free scoring than their opponents yet neither side have a watertight defense so it might be a high scoring game that can entertain the packed Twickenham stadium. The averages per game suggest that a Total points score of around 42-46 could be surpassed and also if we can back the half time score over a mark of say 21-23 points this could be of interest at the moment we wait to see what the markets predict

For those of you not coming to Twickenham this Sunday afternoon sadly there is no LIVE terrestrial action in UK but is probably on Sky or you can try and find a stream (it was shown live via Yahoo.com and the NFL.com sites last time) however there is still a highlights program to enjoy on the BBC1 on Sunday night 23:30 and the fourth game between Minnesota Vikings and Cleveland Browns WILL be shown LIVE on BBC next weekend. Not to be missed is the excellent NFL Show with Jason Bell and Osi Umenyiora together with host Mark Chapman which is on all season twice a week on the BBC but as times tend to vary best to check the schedules.

On Monday we had the sad news that Former basketball coach and long-time Sky Sports NFL presenter Kevin Cadle has died at the age of 62 and a tribute to Kevin will be made before the start of the game this evening.

Enjoy the game and have an exciting evening.

1st Quarter;

Greg Zuerlein gets the game underway here at Twickenham for the LA Rams, returned to the 21yd line and the Cardinals have the first play. New signing Adrian Peterson is in the action straight away and they are quickly up into the Rams half with the opening drive under quarterback Carson Palmer. The Rams take an early timeout with the Cards on their 20yd line now but they manage to prevent the touchdown forcing 4th down, the resulting 32yd field goal attempt by Phil Dawson is missed, so we still all square and the LA Rams take over on their own 22yd line.

The Rams opening drive also finds them quickly into Cardinals territory and they manage a 3rd and long and take it up to the 4yd line where Jared Goff is unable to find a receiver and the Rams settle for a Zuerlein 23yd Field Goal to go 3-0 ahead. Arizona find no luck on their next drive and have to punt and as the first quarter comes to a close the Rams find themselves having to punt it away too.

Both teams have had clear chances to score but it's the Rams who lead 3-0.

2nd Quarter;

Arizona have the ball again starting on their 25yd line, and are short of a first down once more so another punt clearance to the Rams 34yd line and they quickly advance to the half way line looking to increase their advantage early in the 2Q. Tavon Austin runs for 17 yards into Cardinals territory and further penalties means they are up to the 25yd line in sight of the goal line again, but it's another frustrating sequence of failed passes and they again turn to the reliable boot of Greg Zuerlein from 33yds to go 6-0.

Cardinals QB Carson Palmer is having a bad day here in London and throws an interception which ultimately results in a Rams Touchdown from Todd Gurley, the point after is good making it 13-0 with about five minutes left in the half.

Drew Stanton comes in for the disappointing Palmer and converts a 4th down and 1 to start the Cardinals move to put some points on the board this half but alas cannot keep them moving and they punt away, plus a penalty, means the Rams are on their own 12yd line with the two-minute warning due and the half time coming to an end. But that doesn't stop Jared Goff from launching a few passes to Todd Gurley and the superbly named Cooper Kupp and they are in the Arizona red zone with a little over a minute on the clock and no more time outs available. Jared Goff takes it 8yds into the end zone himself for another touchdown and it's 20-0.

You think it surely cannot get worse this half for Arizona but their very next play by Drew Stanton who passes short right intended for Jaron Brown and it's INTERCEPTED by Mark Barron at the Arizona 38yd line and the Rams look set to increase their lead again but settle for another field goal to go 23-0 at halftime

H/T Score;    ARIZONA CARDINALS  0 -- 23  LOS ANGELES RAMS.

3rd Quarter;

Half time over and the Rams turn to receive the kick off where Jared Goff wastes little time in moving up the field again, they seem unstoppable. Only takes the Rams 10 plays and they are in the red zone again a few penalties have helped things but Jared Goff seems to have it all happening here in Twickenham, alas again gets stopped and has to settle for another 34yd field goal. Right now you cannot see how the Arizona Cardinals will even score at all let alone win and their next drive ends early with another punt to the LA Rams 32yd line but a penalty means they have to begin from their 15yd line.

Finally the Cards get some fortune with a big interception from Deone Bucannon for 40yds and another big play takes them up to the red zone for the first time this half, alas they concede more penalties causing a 1st and 25 as the 3rd Quarter comes to an end.

4th Quarter;
The final quarter begins with the Cardinals in possession on the Rams 42yd line but it's those penalties that hurt cos they cannot get moving and are even out of field goal range now, have to punt it away and they are facing a shut out here.

The Rams keep running the ball down the field thus taking plenty of time off the clock and also prevent the Cardinals having any sort of chances. This drive lasts for 16 plays and takes over ten minutes off the time resulting in a touchdown pass to Cooper Kupp (18yds).

The final nail in the coffin for Arizona takes place on their next effort, despite a good advance to the half way line they manage to fumble the ball and although recovered it's 4th down where they fail to make it count and hand the ball over to the Rams again. I think they will be glad to see the back of London tonight.

F/T Score;    ARIZONA CARDINALS  0 -- 33  LOS ANGELES RAMS

KEMPTON PARK RACES 2017 -- WEDNESDAY NIGHTS #28 18th OCTOBER

Welcome to our twenty eighth meeting of 2017 here at Kempton Park and after last weeks loss we have an even bigger deficit to overcome and come into this week with a sum of -42.42 points to level stakes at SP.

This Wednesday is our twenty eighth meeting for 2017 and we are expecting an eight race card tonight with two handicaps to enjoy so will include the Nursery and Classified races as well, tonight's action will commence at 17:45 with the 5f Nursery.

Here's a link to this Wednesday's race card; RACECARD

The going on the polytrack surface is described as 'standard' and the current weather forecast is for a cloudy day with a good chance of some rain, expecting a max temperature of about 17C by the time the meeting gets underway.

Before we get underway tonight I expect we will take a moment to pay our respects and remember the passing of stable hand Kenneth Dooley who died last Saturday after an incident in the stable yard here at Kempton Park. RIP

Our eight race card tonight now has four contests for us to review which consist of two handicaps, a 2yo nursery and the concluding classified stakes, so will be a busy night, there might even be a lay bet but that will be updated later
;

17:45 -- 5f Nursery Handicap (2yo).

A field of 10 two year olds will get us underway tonight, there's only 4lb between them so there should be a bunch finish. We begin looking at MOSSKETEER [5th 12/1] who hasn't shown a lot in maidens but should benefit from the assistance of Josephine Gordon.

Include JONNYSIMPSON [WON 9/4F] as well in a low key opening contest, this one has at least been placed a few times and has a little bit more experience too.

18:15 -- 5f Handicap.

A sprint handicap that has attracted a field of 10 runners, but just the 3lb separating them all. LADY JOANNA VASSA [Non Runner] is a regular winner and a course n distance winner too, should be close and together with the top one MISS ROSINA [4th 6/1] are our pair of selections against the field tonight.

20:15 -- 7f Fillies Handicap.

The fillies handicap has a max field of 14 where HARBA [12th 10/1] can go well for William Buick a winner of three races in the summer this Frankel filly is capable if in touch turning for home. She along with CASTLE HILL CASSIE [4th 14/1] a dual winner this season too and showed her well being with a success at Newcastle on the AW last time out.

21:15 -- 1m Classified Stakes.

Our finale for tonight is a 1m stakes contest, again a max field of 14 declared for this, difficult to assess these as a non handicap but CAPTAIN SEDGWICK [Non Runner] has at least won recently and should find this company better than the last handicap he contested. JUST FAB [4th 10/1] also won a similar race in May has some place form too and still priced up about 8/1.

Staked -- 8 points.
Returns -- 5.25 points.

Results will appear later tonight. Currently we have a deficit of
-42.42 points that we bring forward to this round of racing.

1 Winner, 2 Non runners and another 2.75 points lost taking us up to -45.17 for the next week of racing.

LAYS -- After last weeks effort [one win/one loss] we now stand at 11 from 19 for this season, those 8 unsuccessful ones were all at short odds, will try to get a few more favourites beaten before the end of the season.

If we have one or two Lays tonight they will be updated here.

Lay - AL MUSTASHAR [19:45 7f Novice Stakes]
LOST 11th 5/2F a good success here now 12 from 20.

Our next meeting here at Kempton Park will be in a weeks time on Wednesday 25th October.
