Last time out was an excellent week for us (couple of decent winners and a success on the lay bet too) as such we are back in profit again overall for the season on
As always our focus will be on the handicap contests for each meeting but will occasionally include a feature listed or conditions event too. Keeping records of our endeavours to a 1pt level stake at SP, naturally we will personally be looking to get better odds but for the purpose of the results we record to SP.
We will keep up with our occasional lay opportunities of short priced favourites too, once again will keep these results separately from the handicap figures. We managed to pick up a pair of successfully beaten favs last time so although we lost on the handicaps we clawed a little back with the lays and will continue with these keeping a separate tally throughout the year.
This week is our tenth meeting for 2017 and we are expecting an eight race card tonight with six handicaps for us to delve into so we will be busy tonight. This evenings action will commence at 17:45 with a Class 5 handicap over a mile.
The going on the polytrack surface is described as Standard once more and the current weather forecast is for a dry but cloudy day with a max temperature of about 11C when the meeting gets underway and looks likely to remain chilly throughout the evening.
Here are our selections for this evenings 6 handicap races;
17:45 -- 1m Handicap (3yo).
Top weight and recent Newcastle winner ALEMARATALYOUM looks a lively contender here in our opener, won't be much of a price but is the yardstick.
However we do prefer something with a little more depth in the market and potential for a decent return so we side with NEVER FOLDING [5th 40/1] who was placed around Lingfield and also POWER POWER [2nd 9/1] who has enjoyed a run around here too.
19:15 -- 1m Handicap.
Could have gone with the original selection of 'SELECTION' (won 2/1F) but instead looking at the following pair, first one with the Masters Golf about to start it's TEE IT UP TOMMO [3rd 8/1] and we pair that with WINK OLIVER [4th 11/1] against the field in this run of the mill mile handicap.
19:45 -- 7f Handicap (3yo).
With Ryan Moore already booting the winners home it would be worth considering MITIGATE [Non Runner] here despite the burden of top weight and a fairly short price in the market. Since the handicap is limited to 3yo's only the main danger might come from Richard Hannon's SANS SOUCI BAY [4th 8/1] who has had a bit more experience than most.
20:15 -- 1m 4f Handicap.
Just the seven declared for this event, and a short price fav is forecast with JACOB CATS but we are putting that one into the LAY column for tonight. We side with MARMAJUKE BAY [2nd 7/2] who has winning form around this course which should count strongly in his favour.
20:45 -- 1m 4f Handicap.
Big field of 14 for the mile half handicap, where bottom weight BRIAC [10th 9/4] should be popular while going for the hat trick of wins around this course with a couple of weeks gap between each one.
21:15 -- 6f Handicap.
Our finale is a sprint event over 6f and a field of 12 have been declared. And it's FLEETING GLIMPSE [WON 6/1] together with VIRILE [2nd 7/2] that we pick against the field in a competitive event. Staked -- 10 points
Returns -- 8 point (1 Nr and a winner in last).
Loads of places and near misses tonight, seems to be the theme this season a good week followed by a frustrating one, but then we get a nice win in the last.
As a result of tonight we only dropped a couple of points and that leaves us with +2.25 point profit to carry over to next week. Still plenty of the season to come.
Lays -- Now stands as 4 from 7.
One tonight was JACOB CATS (20:15) and bugger it won.
Our next Wednesday evening meeting at this course will be on 12th April.
