2015/2016 FOOTBALL SEASON. AFC WIMBLEDON vs NOTTS COUNTY

SATURDAY 19th SEPTEMBER 2015

After last weeks slightly disappointing draw away at Yeovil the Dons are at home this weekend to 18th placed Notts County. Now we all know that the Dons struggle when faced with lower placed opposition and seem to do better against the top teams, we are praying this changes at the weekend since this is the sort of game we need to win convincingly if we are serious about a play off attempt this season. 

Good that 'The Beast' Adebayo Akinfenwa scored last time out and was outstanding in most of the chances created, so I expect he'll start in an unchanged starting eleven. 

The Notts County defence will have their hands full with him, but the Dons have other weapons in their armoury and if as County defender Haydn Hollis says they intend playing a higher line that will suit us nicely as we have pace in the team too.

Be brave Dons, go for it early and 3 points will be ours.

First Half Comment;
What can you say about the first half, it was boring, there was no plan other than thumping it up to Bayo, so was no shock to me that the away side took the lead following a deep free kick which was headed home by defender Haydn Hollis. 

Wombles still need to find someone who can deliver a corner, as time and again they fail to turn their domination in this regard (8 corners to county's 1) surely it can't be that hard to train how to cross a set piece to either near or far post, sorry but it's a pet hate of mine.

Match Summary;
A good result but not a very entertaining game, still 3 points is 3 points and nice to come from behind for a change than losing a lead. Akinfenwa heading home in the last min to complete the turnaround after Dannie Bulman had equalised following a George Francomb cross with five mins to go. 

The result was the important thing here, beating a team from the lower end of the table for a change, next up is Luton Town and memories of the Conference seasons and play off final, hopefully this one won't go to pens...

13th Meeting of the season ...

Little bit of a break since the last meeting and sadly that one gave us a small loss halting the good run we were on. As such our running total is still showing a small profit of +12.535, which makes a nice change from being behind most of the season so now look at taking the next step to securing a profit for the whole season since there are only a few meetings left.

All results for this meeting are returned to a level stake at SP, and will also show any forecast results too in the daily results but these do not count for the profit / loss figures. 

Our next meeting of the 2015 Season, the thirteenth so far, takes place on Thursday afternoon and is an eight race card, as the 2m Handicap has been split into two divisions. The meeting will get under-way at 2.10 with a 5f Maiden for 2yo's. 

The forecast going is currently reported as 'Good, Good to Soft in places' the weather for Thursday is cloudy and windy with rain at first becoming drier and brighter later. Rain is forecast in the region for around 1pm, max temp 16C on race day itself.

2015/2016 FOOTBALL SEASON. YEOVIL vs AFC WIMBLEDON

SATURDAY 12th SEPTEMBER 2015

Another away day this weekend with the travelling Wombles off to sunny Yeovil Town. A team currently struggling for points down in the bottom two already this season can only mean one thing when the Dons turn up....yep have all you like on a Yeovil win. It's bound to happen, it always does.

Yeovil's manager Paul Sturrock is already getting his excuses in early in case the unexpected happens and the Dons win, he's got at least 10 players out and also Shaun Jeffers suspended after last weekends sending off, their bench may have to be filled up with academy / youth players at this rate, still a chance for some. 

The Dons youngsters had a good run out midweek against Bournemouth U21s and the likes of Ryan Sweeney, Callum Wilson and Egli Kaja could feature more in the first time this season as manager Neal Ardley gives youth a chance, Lyle Taylor is serving a suspension for recent sending off.

First Half Comment;
A fairly even first half although the Dons did hit the target a few times with some tests that Yeovil keeper Artur Krysiak was equal too. 

25 mins in and as expected Yeovil take the lead with a neat headed finish close in Ryan Bird. 1-0, lets see if the Dons can respond. More shots on target followed but unable to make this pressure count, can't afford to fall further behind here, good open game but Dons still behind.

Reeves hits the post towards the end of the half and the only note about the ref is that he's gone off injured and replaced by the 4th official, but did OK in a game that didn't need any histrionics from the man in the middle.

Match Summary;
Dons managed to come from behind to level up but unable to push on for the win, Yeovil did well for a team at the bottom of the table and should build on this with Paul Sturrock the right man in charge to steady the ship following recent relegations. 

As for the game a draw seems fair albeit disappointing from the Dons perspective, hitting the bar a number of times until Bayo struck towards the end. Next week is a home match against Notts County and it looks like a game were the line up needs a change. Great that Bayo got his goal he's been overdue and this might bring about a change of fortune now.


Man of the Match – Adebayo Akinfenwa.

Referee -- Lee Swabey (Devon) -- another out of the Conference ranks, already bit card happy showing 10 Y and 2 R in just 4 matches, does seem to be well touted by the Referee's association for a future career progression to the Premier League. 

We will see...well I thought he was ok until he went off before half time, he can officiate us again when he's fit.
