Welcome to Kempton Park racecourse as we begin 2022 with a fresh season of Wednesday evening meetings on the all weather flat track under the lights. We had a decent 2021 here on these Wednesday nights with a profit for the year to SP and shall aim for further success in 2022. More football for me this weekend when AFC Wimbledon continue with their fight against relegation with a home fixture against Sunderland at Plough Lane. Achieved a 1-1 draw despite a terrible referee who dished out 12 bookings in a game that hardly a war. This weekend we also have the NFL finale with Super Bowl LVI where the Cincinnati Bengals face the Los Angeles Rams into the early hours of Monday morning, a thrilling game at the end as the Rams scored to secure the win, Cooper Kupp voted MVP too.
Returning to the horse racing all results here are reported to 1pt at Starting Prices (SP) we will be keeping a rolling record of profit/loss all the way through from January till the Boxing Day 'King George' fixture in December. Last season saw an overall profit for the year to the tune of +25.465 points to SP. We will continue to keep a record to SP throughout the season again so far the first five meetings were successful bar the last one but it still means a +16.325 points profit to take through to week six.
Throughout the year we will keep up with our occasional lay opportunities of anticipated short priced favourites too. Naturally we will keep these results separately from the handicap figures we had been fairly successful with our selections throughout last year managed to get plenty of favourites beat so we finished on 38/52 (73.07%). We shall reset everything for the new year so that 2022 will begin afresh as it should be. Started well enough with another successful lay last time around means we are now 7/9 (77.77%) after the opening meetings and hopefully we will have another successful season from January - December.
Tonight's meeting will be our 6th Wednesday evening twilight fixture year. This meeting should have a seven race card to enjoy, with six handicaps on the card at present, having seen the opening handicap on the card divided. We will begin late in the afternoon with our opening race which will now commence at 17:00 with a seven furlong maiden contest, then we should end the card around about 20:30 with a classified stakes over six furlongs.
Here's a link to this Wednesday's race card; RACECARD Going and Weather -- The going on the polytrack surface is described as 'standard to slow' and the current weather forecast for this Wednesday is for a somewhat cloudy afternoon, but dry into the early evening while the temperature is not likely to get much higher than around 12C tonight.
Here are our handicap selections for tonight;17:30 Join Racing Tv Now Handicap (Div One)
1m [Class 6 12 runners]
The opening one mile handicap has been divided and the first one can go to Headora [4th @16/1] has been runner up a couple of times and has other place form to count on but running out of chances to finally secure a handicap victory. Will be priced accordingly which will also apply to Villeurbanne [5th @9/1] who again has a couple of runner up races on the all weather and at Redcar, the penny should drop sooner or later, and with Tom Marquand booked the 14/1 might not last long.
Winner - (5) Dynakite @11/4f [K Shoemark].
18:00 Join Racing Tv Now Handicap (Div Two)
1m [Class 6 11 runners]
The second division is another open contest, a dozen line up for the mile start and we begin by picking a winner at Wolves in January Calonne [4th @15/2] has shown a liking for this trip, was well beaten over 6f here prior to that, but has plenty of win and place form over the mile albeit most efforts are up at Newcastle. While Recuerdame [9th @8/1] ran in a similar looking contest two weeks ago and was staying on at the end there so no reason to suggest they cannot go in and score once again with a 3lb rise, has Hollie Doyle in the saddle too which must be a plus here.
Winner - (2) Covert Mission @13/8f [Daniel Muscutt].
18:30 Unibet Extra Place Offers Every Day Handicap
1m [Class 4 10 runners]
Freedom and Wheat [4th @8/1] a winner here three runs ago however that was nearly fourteen months back and has been lightly raced since that, still feasibly weighted in this line up and their most recent effort here last month is promising will race off a similar mark here tonight. While support for Proclaimer [Non Runner] should be noted, won four in a row (three of which were here) and has enjoyed a short break since, not too far above their final winning mark at Newcastle and with David Probert on board someone who is an expert on this track.
Winner - (6) Rogue Force @10/3 [Jack Mitchell].
19:30 Unibet 3 Uniboosts A Day Handicap
6f [Class 2 3 runners]
The best race in terms of class and only three are expected to line up now with Royal Pleasure already withdrawn. May Sonic won this last year and is likely to make a bold bid to repeat that but I will side with Papa Stour [WON @15/8] who won here last time out. The other runner who completes the field is Mohareb though might prefer Southwell and has been beaten in small fields before. A tricky race to call given the small field but should be run at a true pace and all in with a chance.
Winner - (4) Papa Stour @15/8 [Marco Ghiani].
20:00 Unibet Supporting Safe Gambling Fillies' Handicap
1m 3f 218y [Class 5 7 runners]
Going with two big prices here against the field, Colonial Love [7th @66/1] a winner over 12f last summer now dropping back down the weights and with Georgia Dobbie's claim should feature. While Luna Magic [6th @33/1] was also successful twice last year and wouldn't have enjoyed the soft going that she experienced after that, a return to the all weather should see this experienced 8yo take a closer order again, it's possible her latest run came too soon after a good 3rd at Southwell.
Winner - (5) Allowed @9/4 [Rob Hornby].
20:30 Try Our New Price Boosts At Unibet Fillies' Handicap 1m [Class 5 7 runners]
We end with another fillies handicap over a mile this time, while Hold Fast returns to try and repeat her win from last year but seems a short price so am going to side with the pair of Princesse Animale [6th @9/2] a regular winner and place efforts over at Lingfield last year, the 5yo mare is weighted to score again if in the mood. While Zoom Zoom Babe [WON @10/3] has been dropping in the weights though was successful over in Ireland, back to a mile should suit too and her jockey takes off a further 3lb.
Winner - (6) Zoom Zoom Babe @10/3 [Theodore Ladd].
Staked - 12 points. Returns - 8.208 points.
Results will appear here later during Wednesday evening. All results are accurate and recorded to SP returns to a 1pt win stake only and updated each meeting. A winning start to 2022 came to an end last time with no winners but we are still up by +16.325 points to SP returns coming into week six. Couple of winners tonight, and a small loss for the meeting of -3.792 points means that overall we are now +12.533 points in profit to SP.
Lays - 7/9 Looking for another good season with the lays, aiming at favourites and not afraid to take on short odds on shots too. The plan will be for at least one or two each meeting and we will keep those results separate from the handicaps. Another favourite beaten today, so that's 8/10.
Tonight's Lays;
17:00 - Take A Stand [7f Maiden Stakes]. Lost 3rd@7/4f
We will have more midweek floodlit meetings in 2022, our next meeting will be held here on Wednesday 23rd February 2022. Keep well.
