KEMPTON PARK RACES 2020 -- WEDNESDAY NIGHTS #7 4th MARCH

2020 AW season at Kempton under the lightsWelcome to Kempton Park racecourse here for Wednesday night we return to regular action on the all weather flat track under the lights. So far the opening couple of months of 2020 have been fair, and the meetings come thick and fast during the all weather season. The storms recently have made it a bit chilly but spring will appear soon and the better horses will start to show too. Away from the horse racing AFC Wimbledon after winning 2-1 at Gillingham on Saturday are also back on track for a big return home to Plough Lane having launched another fans initiative the Plough Lane Bond set about trying to rise significant money for the new stadium and when the Bond deadline passed we had already reached the £5.3 million mark so impressed by this the people involved have extended the end date till May hoping to hit something nearer £6m-7m and continue with the Stadium Build. All horse racing results here are reported to 1pt at Starting Prices (SP) despite a win in meeting #6 we dropped a few points overall and are down by a figure -3.34 points, results are to SP we will aim to get us back into the black again soon and see further improvement in the results.

Throughout the year we will keep up with our occasional lay opportunities of anticipated short priced favourites too. Naturally we will keep these results separately from the handicap figures we had been fairly successful with our selections throughout last year managed to get plenty of favourites beat so we finished on 40/54 (74%). We reset the counters for 2020 and will be continuing this throughout the year again. Currently a mixed start with the favourites winning occasionally so we are 6 out of 8 after the opening few meetings.

This Wednesday is meeting number seven for the 2020 All Weather season. Tonight we shall be expecting a seven race card and along with the handicaps we have a feature event with the 'Road To The Kentucky Derby' Conditions Stakes off at 19:15. The action will still commence at 17:15 with our first handicap event and we should end the card around about 20:15 with our final handicap contest over a six furlong trip.

Here's a link to this Wednesday's race card; RACECARD

Going and Weather -- The going on the polytrack surface is described as 'standard to slow' and the current weather forecast for this Wednesday is for a lot of cloudy weather and it's going to be very cold all day. Only a light chance of some showers too and we expect the temperature to reach single figures around 7C by the time the meeting gets underway. No let up in the bad weather now we have reached March but hopefully we will see some improvement soon.

Here are our handicap selections for tonight;
17:15 32Red Handicap
(Class 2, 1m 1f 219y, 6 runners)
A good handicap to kick us off with and only the six are declared headed by Star of Bengal [3rd 11/10f] for trainer John Gosden and ridden by Frankie Dettori. Another 5yo in good heart is Home Before Dusk [4th 9/2] and I think that pair will have enough even for the challenge of Lucky's Dream who has won his last three all weather events but this is a big leap up but a small field might mean a tactical pace so that one is overlooked.

17:45 100% Profit Boost At 32RedSport.com Handicap (Div One)
(Class 6, 1m 3f 219y, 11 runners)
Top weighted Bird for Life [9th 50/1] has had a break and might be best fairly fresh, needs to break better a the start but has improved considerably and as a 6yo might not be over the top yet. Ballydoyle [6th 12/1] was a mid distance type while racing in Germany and France, interesting that their current connections went straight to a novice hurdle (4th) but could still have something to offer on the flat, both selections available about 10/1+ or thereabouts.

18:15 100% Profit Boost At 32RedSport.com Handicap (Div Two)
(Class 6, 1m 3f 219y, 11 runners)
A dual winner both here and at Lingfield means Be Fair [WON 6/5f] is likely to be strongly fancied by many not just myself. Wally's Wisdom [9th 10/1] is an 8yo now but still winning frequently as demonstrated by his success here in January. That pair against the field in the second division of this handicap.

19:15 'Road To The Kentucky Derby' Conditions Stakes (3yo)
(Class 2, 1m, 5 runners)
Including tonight's feature race a class two affair over the mile, just the five line up sadly but do include New World Tapestry [Nap] over from Ireland trained by Aiden O'Brien and Ryan Moore comes here for this one. Aye Harbour has won two handicaps recently but this is a big leap and is best opposed, while Berlin Tango will probably like this more than the listed event he was last seen in at Doncaster but has an absence to overcome. Ex French Chares won three there and now trained by Jane Chapple-Hyam and the small field is completed by Naval Commander who has only raced once and should really be outclassed here at this stage in his career. We side with New World Tapestry [3rd 11/4] against the field here.

19:45 32Red.com Handicap
(Class 4, 7f, 14 runners)
Chookie Dunedin [10th 9/2] has won four of his last five albeit they are all at Wolves, his 3lb claimer was on board for the latest victory and that claim might be very useful still, has only raced once around here but must be high on the shortlist. Ex Irish trained (D Weld) Tranchee [4th 6/1] still has low millage and with S De Sousa in the saddle can go close too.

20:15 32Red On The App Store Handicap
(Class 6, 6f, 12 runners)
Six furlongs looks the best trip so far for 4yo filly Chocco Star [7th 7/1] a winner at Lingfield two starts back wasn't able to double up there but ran well to finish 3rd and at this grade could be of interest still. Phoenix Star [WON 4/1] won over course and distance off 2lb lower back in November, again support would be interesting and has the best jockey in the saddle to try his hardest to win once more.

Staked -- 11 points.      Returns -- 7.2 points.
Results will appear here later during Wednesday evening. This season we started afresh and will try hard to stop going well behind but all results are accurate and recorded to SP returns to a 1pt win stake only and updated each meeting. A disappointing start to 2020 was soon put right however after meeting #6 we now carry over a small loss -3.34 points moving forward to next week. Just two winners, and not enough to secure a profit this week, losing another -3.8 points tonight means we are now -7.14 overall.

LAYS -- 6/8. We had a good season last year with the lays, aiming at favourites and not afraid to take on short odds on shots too. The plan will be for at least one or two each meeting and we will keep those results separate from the handicaps. Two favs tonight one winner, one loser,  7/9 now.

Tonight's Lays;
18:45 - 1m Novice Stakes - CEMHAAN  [Won 4/7f].
19:15 - 1m Conditions Stakes - BERLIN TANGO [Lost 15/8 2f].
