HRM OPEN DAY SAT 19th FEB

SATURDAY 19th FEBRUARY 2011
HILLINGDON RAILWAY MODELLERS OPEN DAY
@ Yiewsley Baptist ChurchColham Avenue, Yiewsley, Middx UB7 8HF
[info@yiewsleybaptist.co.uk]

Attended the first of this years open days and while most of the regular members were in attendance it doesn't appear to have brought in any "new" faces yet. Though the OO was also up and that seemed quite busy which is a good sign as I still believe that is their best opportunity to swell numbers as necessary to keep the costs covered. This will allow the O Gauge side to keep going in the short term.

The O gauge layout was up, a few pictures here though not a lot running ... I believe the best business was done by the tea and bacon roll service (which I can confirm was excellent value).

Visit my site www.bigtedonline.com and find more photo's and video clips from the event, includes a most interesting item called a "Shay" used on the logging railroads of North America, uniquely driven by a corkscrew driveshaft it looked amazing close up.

Had to leave early, but lets see how things change between now and the next open day due in April.

REGULAR MEETINGS EVERY THURSDAY NIGHT FROM 7PM

NEXT OPEN DAY SATURDAY 16th APRIL 2011

Thursday, 24 February 2011

BACK AND LAY DAY 17 - FRI 25th FEB 2011

FRIDAY

NAP
DIAMOND BROOK [4.35 SANDOWN PARK]
Lightly raced and should improve for the step up in trip here, the opposition doesn't have a lot of strength in depth so 5/1 looks an ew steal but we'll go in for the win.

LAY
PEPE SIMO [3.25 SANDOWN PARK]
Only 3 runners, so opposing the fav is a bit of a risk, but both opponents are from top yards and come with winning form. Dan Breen is a strong front runner and might be hard to peg back up the stiff finish here, Giorgio Quercus made up for his debut fall and will also challenge the fav.

BACK AND LAY DAY 16 - WED 23rd FEB 2011

WEDNESDAY

NAP
WOGAN [3.40 DONCASTER]
Ultra consistent and well up to winning again in this "Veteran's" contest. Won twice here and for an 11yo actually doesn't have that much millage on the clock.

LAY
BESHABAR [2.35 DONCASTER]
Made several mistakes before finally coming down last time out, is priced at Evens to win this and at that price has to be opposed. I'm a Cool Mission backer personally.

BACK AND LAY DAY 15 - TUES 22nd FEB 2011

TUESDAY

NAP
LA ESTRELLA [1.50 SOUTHWELL]
Is unbeaten on this course and having won again last week is taken to go in again and score the hat-trick in the opener, with the field having plenty of holes in their form and only THE OIL MAGNATE appearing to have a worthwhile chance.

LAY
KUMMEL EXCESS[2.50 SOUTHWELL]
Has been well beaten in both starts this term and no reason to see why fav even on favourable terms in this seller. 2/1 def max lay.

BEST WISHES

BACK AND LAY DAY 14 - SAT 19th FEB 2011

SATURDAY

NAP
RIVERSIDE THEATRE [3.00 ASCOT]

2nd in the King George where they raced him to get the trip not to win, has avoided the AON Chase to wait for this. Has Pride Of Dulcote to beat but not sure how his form adds up as it's based on the beating of Punchestowns in the fog and that one has been well beat since.

LAY
SPRINTER SACRE [4.05 ASCOT]

Winner of three from four starts, deserves to be odds on here again but will do well to give a stone in weight to POLISKY assuming Paul Nicholls has this all tuned up and ready to go.

GOOD LUCK

MAKING THE BEST OF A JOB ... PART TWO

PART II

6 Blow off some steam.
Most people have an activity that helps them unwind and get rid of tension. Go for a run after work, go swimming on your lunch hour, or take a nice long walk. Put this activity on your schedule so you will have something to look forward to every day.

7 Maintain your performance.
It is important to continue to do your work and do it well, regardless of your current situation. Set personal performance goals. Then use the accomplishments in future interviews.

8 Treat yourself.
To make up for your office misery, find little ways of treating yourself. Buy a good book to read. Treat yourself to ice cream. Buy some flowers. Shop for a new interview suit. Plan your next vacation. Find out what makes you feel better inside, no matter what is going on outside.

9 Keep your bridges intact.
It really is a small world, and you never know when you will run into co-workers from your past. Don't burn any bridges at your company because you are unhappy. Maintain your contacts and keep your relationships positive. You might just need a reference or a good word from one of your colleagues in the future.

10 Realise that this too shall pass.
Right now, it might seem like you will be stuck in this job forever. Keep your chin up and remind yourself that you are in charge of your destiny. Search internal postings for new positions. Start your search for a new job externally.

MAKING THE BEST OF A JOB ... PART ONE

1 Do one thing each day to help you reach your goals.
You don't need to cross all your goals off your list every day, but you can chip away daily. When you get up in the morning, set a daily objective for yourself and make sure you achieve it. This will give you a sense of accomplishment and keep you feeling good about your progress.

2 Set weekly goals for yourself.
Sometimes it is easier to make it to 5 o'clock when you can keep your eye on the prize. Even if you hate your job now, there is something out there that will make you happy. Set weekly goals to help you find that golden opportunity. One week you might strive to send out five CVs or attend one networking event. Setting these goals will give you something to work toward.

3 Develop a positive morning ritual.
Going into a job you hate will be worse if you get to the office feeling rushed, stressed and frazzled. Set aside some moments of solitude each morning. Treat yourself to a latte, get up early enough to read the paper, or just set your alarm to play upbeat music when you wake up. Improving your mornings can do wonders for the rest of your day.

4 Create a diversion for yourself in the office.
Does being in your office make you yearn for the outdoors? Are the incessant ringing phones driving you batty? Do something to brighten your mood while you're at work. Take in a tropical picture and use it as your screensaver. Buy yourself a "joke of the day" desk calendar. Plug headphones into your computer or bring your iPod to work. Go out for lunch.

5 Develop your skills.
Hating your job doesn't mean you can't learn new skills. Use your time to make yourself a better candidate down the road. If your company offers training courses, take advantage of them. Use downtime to learn something new on your computer. Pick up a management development book and read it at lunch. Turn this job into an opportunity for self-improvement.

BACK AND LAY DAY 13 - WED 16th FEB 2011

WEDNESDAY

NAP
SCARY MOVIE [3.00 LINGFIELD PARK]
Winner of a similar seller over course and distance in January faces little competition on the form book here with only ERINJAY likely to trouble IF getting home over 2f further than his usual trip.

LAY
EDE'S DOT COM [5.00 LINGFIELD PARK]
On a hat-trick but up in class and decent opposition here so looking to lay around 5/2 > 3/1 or thereabouts.

BACK AND LAY DAY 12 - TUES 15th FEB 2011

TUESDAY

NAP
THORNTON ALICE [2.40 NEWCASTLE]
Runner up over CD last time and that winner has gone on to win again so the form looks good and it's time for the mare to break her duck.

LAY
MR MUDDLE [4.00 FOLKESTONE]
Beaten at odds on by a lowly rated type so run of 2nds not likely to be improved again today. Still being put up as 2nd Fav so easily laid today.

BACK AND LAY DAY 11 - MON 14th FEB 2011

MONDAY

NAP

REMEMBER NOW [3.00 PLUMPTON]
Half brother to champion hurdler Binocular is beginning to get his act together over hurdles and can continue his improvement with a victory here under AP McCoy.

LAY

PRINCE DU SEUIL [3.30 PLUMPTON]
Looks one paced on recent runs and much to fear from LUPANAR and FRONTIER SPIRIT here so max lay.

NEWBURY SATURDAY 12th

WELL QUITE THE MOST DISTRESSING SCENE I'VE SEEN AT RACING FOR SOME YEARS, TWO HORSES DIED IN FRONT OF US, OTHERS CLEARLY DISTURBED BY SOMETHING AT THE TIME WE DIDN'T KNOW WHAT, AND RACING REALLY AN AFTERTHOUGHT AS A RESULT

RACE DELAYED AND WON BY AL FEROF 1/4F BUT FRANKLY THE RESULT REALLY DOESN'T MATTER IN THE OVERALL SCHEME OF THINGS.

UPDATE>>
GOOD RACING HAS BEEN CALLED OFF SHAME IT TOOK THEM AN HOUR LONGER THAN NECESSARY TO MAKE THE OBVIOUS CALL, NO DOUBT WITH ONE RACE RUN THEY'LL CLAIM NO REFUNDS ARE DUE. HOPE THEY FIND THE REAL CAUSE FOR THE DEATHS OF TWO HORSES AND THE DISTRESS TO MANY MORE, SOMEONE NEEDS TO BE SACKED FOR THE DECISION TO RACE THOUGH AS I SAW MANY PEOPLE DISTRESSED INCLUDING ONE FAMILY WHO I SPOKE TO AND WERE MAKING THEIR FIRST (AND PROBABLY LAST) TRIP TO THE COURSE.

BACK AND LAY DAY 10 - SAT12th FEB 2011

SAT

NAP
FRENCH OPERA [3.00 NEWBURY]

Though FRENCH OPERA [NAP] was well beaten on his seasonal debut in a race where CORNAS and TCHICO POLOS finished 1-2. With that behind him should go much closer here on revised terms too.

A multiple winner last year FRENCH OPERA gets our NAP vote for this weekend

LAY
TARABLAZE [4.10 NEWBURY]

Amazing for such a good card to find a 3 runner novice chase here, where JOKERS LEGACY having fallen on his chase debut becoming the outsider of the trio (and therefore MUST be backed). This looks a simple task on paper for AITEEN THIRTYTHREE to notch up a hat-trick, seeing off TARABLAZE who just about got home at short odds himself at Exeter so it's Tarablaze who is our LAY for today.

GOOD LUCK

BACK AND LAY DAY 9 - THUR 10th FEB 2011

THUR

NAP

SIX WIVES [2.20 SOUTHWELL]
Looks a better option than the other last time out winners, Sloop Johnb won 3 claimers and this handicap looks a different story again. Sleepy Blue Ocean comes off worse at the weights too.

LAY
BONNIE PRINCE BLUE [3.20 SOUTHWELL]

This 6f claimer might come down to the trio of Bonnie Prince Blue, Punching and Ingleby Arch. The last named is my selection here having won here 7 times and looks to have favourable terms.

GOOD LUCK

BACK AND LAY DAY 8 - TUES 8th FEB 2011

DETAILS FOR TUESDAY

NAP
SILVER ROGUE [3.05 MARKET RASEN]

A FLAT WINNER IN FRANCE, HAS BEEN PLACED IN RACES OF 2M AND LOOKS SUITED TO A STEP UP IN TRIP HERE. DOESN'T REALLY HAVE A LOT TO BEAT AND KEEN TO TAKE THE 4/1 OR BETTER IF AVAILABLE.

LAY
THE KNOXS [2.55 SEDGEFIELD]

2 FALLS IN LAST 2 STARTS DOESN'T BODE WELL AND YOUNG CHASERS AT 13/8F MAKE LITTLE APPEAL UNTIL THEY GOT THEIR GAME TOGETHER, I THINK THE YARD WILL BE KEEN TO GET HIM TO COMPLETE SO MIGHT PLACE BUT THE WIN I WILL OPPOSE TODAY.
