KEMPTON PARK RACES 2019 -- WEDNESDAY NIGHTS #27 30th October

KEMPTON PARK RACES 2019 -- WEDNESDAY NIGHTS
Coming down to the final few months of this annual theme, was hopeful of a more productive second half to the year but we struggling a little. Still time though till we end 2019.

It's half term and Halloween which is not my cup of tea at all however the last few months action continues here at Kempton, over the weekend we saw England beat New Zealand and Wales lose against South Africa in the rugby world cup and the final between England v South Africa will be played next Saturday. No football for us last Saturday as Wimbledon would have been playing Bury FC so will take a break till our game against Lincoln this coming Saturday and instead we had a Cheltenham NH meeting to enjoy and Sunday is the NFL London game at Wembley where LA Rams beat Cincinnati Bengals 24-10.

Has been a very up and down year overall not just with the racing though the last month was encouraging so with the Autumn and Winter months to come we will continue to focus on the all weather horse racing now while the lights still shine brightly here at Kempton Park throughout this year. We are hopeful of better season than we experienced last year but it's just some fun and excitement to mix up the week we have found it hard and are more than a little behind to SP though it's something I will keep persevering with through to the end of the year.

Let us move onward with this our twenty seventh Wednesday night of 2019, and will continue to focus on the handicap contests for each Wednesday evening meeting though we will also occasionally include a feature listed or conditions event too if there is one available. Keeping records of our endeavours to a 1 point level stake at SP, naturally we will personally be looking to get better odds than this but for the purpose of these results here we simply record SP returns only.
Following our last meeting the deficit is currently on -58.32 points to SP returns overall. We continue to battle hard to reduce this and thankfully there is still a few months to get this back.

Kempton Park Racecourse
Throughout the year we will keep up with our occasional lay opportunities of anticipated short priced favourites too. Naturally we will keep these results separately from the handicap figures we have been fairly successful with our selections so far and last meeting we managed to get another two odds on favourites beat so we are now 31/44 (70%+) we will continue with this through 2019.

This Wednesday will be meeting number twenty seven for the 2019 AW season and we are expecting an eight race card tonight and we have four handicaps to enjoy which should keep us plenty busy enough. The action which will now commence at 16:40 with a 6f claiming contest and tonight's card ends around about 20:10 with our final handicap contest over a shade under 1m 4f.

Here's a link to this Wednesday's race card; RACECARD

Going and Weather -- The going on the polytrack surface is described as 'standard to slow' and the current weather forecast for this Wednesday is for a lot of cloudy weather with a chill in the air so wrap up warm and more than a fair chance of showers so keep safe in the bars the best we expect the temperature to reach is around 11C by the time the meeting gets underway.

Here are our handicap selections for tonight;

18:10 -- 1m Handicap.
Our first handicap tonight is over a mile and has attracted a field of 14 runners. The obvious choice is TAKEONEFORTHETEAM [3rd 9/1] who won a similar contest here two weeks ago and can follow up off a 5lb rise. I CAN [8th 10/1] is interesting in that he is trained by Sir Mark Todd (recently retired equestrian champion from New Zealand) so will see how that one gets on in the market too, along with TORO DORADO [Non Runner] who seems to prefer this track to the likes of Brighton.

19:10 -- 1m 7f 218y Handicap.
The stayers contest tonight has eleven runners declared and I'll be focusing on some proven stayers, which brings us to select the course and distance winners ASTROMACHIA [WON 11/8f] and KNIGHT CRUSADER [3rd 20/1] against the field. Of course there are other CD winners here, namely CASA COMIGO but at 6/4f that seems too short and might find his winning run come to an end tonight now upped 10lb against better opposition.

19:40 -- 1m 3f 219y Handicap (3yo).
Just the four runners for this event and interesting to see a runner from JP O'Brien here at Kempton, his GRANDMASTER FLASH [2nd 4/1] might just be "The Message" eh. The trainer is very keen on this one and was always expected to get a longer trip in time, even as a three year old this should be well within his grasp and the small field shouldn't hinder him at all.

20:10 -- 1m 3f 219y Handicap.
Our finale tonight over just under mile and half can go to one of SWEET CELEBRATION [Marco Botti] [WON 7/1] runner up last time out at Wolves and this trip looks perfect or MINNELLI [PJ McBride] [Non Runner] a winner at both Wolves and last time out at Yarmouth is in form and could go in again at a reasonable price. Both are 3yo fillies and get the weight concessions as a result making them appealing value in this contest.

Staked -- 7 points.
Returns -- 12.375 points. [2 Winners 2 Non Runners]

Results will appear here later during Wednesday evening. This season we are sadly down by -58.32 points to SP returns. Now only couple more months of the season to go and we will end up with an additional meeting here for the King George Chase on Boxing Day. Clawed back +5.375 points this evening but still sadly -52.945 overall.

LAYS -- 31/44. Got our lay bets beat last week and we will try to find another one or two successful lay bets this time around and these will show up here later on tonight. Two more beaten selections tonight, so we move up to 33/46.

Tonight's Lays;
17:40 - ROSARDO SENORITA [1m Fillies] Lost 6th 4/1.
18:40 - PENTIMENTO [7f 3yo Novice] Lost 2nd 5/6f.
2019 AW season at Kempton under the lights

Our twenty eighth meeting for this year will be held next week on Wednesday 6th November so hope to see you then and throughout the rest of 2019 too.

NFL 2019 INTERNATIONAL LONDON GAME 3 -- CINCINNATI BENGALS vs LOS ANGELES RAMS

NFL International Series, London Game 3
This Sunday sees the third of the four NFL London games and pits Cincinnati Bengals against the Los Angeles Rams at Wembley Stadium. Cincinnati from the AFC North have struggled this year losing all seven of their games to date, their latest defeat came last Sunday 17-27 against Jacksonville, while last years beaten Superbowl finalists LA Rams are currently w4-l3 following their win 37-10 over Atlanta and very in and out beginning to fall behind in the NFC West so maybe both teams will welcome a trip to London and appearing under the arch at Wembley.
Live action as NFL goes overseas
The game will be shown LIVE on BBC Tv on Sunday afternoon the show should begin about 4:30pm The live game, the first to be played at Wembley Stadium this year, pits Rams head coach Sean McVay against new Bengals supremo Zac Taylor, who was McVay’s quarterback coach in LA last year. McVay, aged 33, and Taylor, who is 36, are two of the youngest head coaches in the NFL and the offensive-minded duo have seen their respective teams involved in several high scoring games this season.

Nat Coombs presents all the action with expert analysis by two time Superbowl winner Osi Umenyiora, NFL cornerback Jason Bell and writer/journalist Mike Carlson.

NFL International Series Game 3Sunday 27th October
Cincinnati Bengals vs Los Angeles Rams @ Wembley Stadium

Another sell out crowd is expected for these popular matches and kick off will be at 5:00pm (Uk Time).

NFL International Series Game 3

Current season record

Cincinnati Bengals

    - P7 W0 L7 F114 A186
  Los Angeles Rams
    - P7 W4 L3 F190 A164

Bengals vs Rams London
Head Coach - Sean McVay
Week 8 of the regular season and while both teams are "away" in London technically this is a home fixture for Los Angeles who are led from the sidelines by Sean McVay the young head coach who masterminded their run all the way to last year's Superbowl. On the field the Quarterback is Jared Goff and he'll be key to their fortunes again this season while they have two of the best players in the NFL in their respective positions, defensive tackle Aaron Donald arguably the best defender in the NFL and running back Todd Gurley when 100% fit can turn games with a single devastating run, should be able to show his true self today against an opposition that is clearly struggling and has led the NFL in touchdowns for the last two seasons.
Bengals vs Rams London
Head Coach - Zac Taylor
The Cincinnati Bengals are led by another young head coach Zac Taylor but do have an experienced Quarterback in Andy Dalton. They will need to play up to their opening week performance against the Seahawks even though they lost that 20-21 that was against what is clearly a well organised side. In the absence of AJ Green they are missing an outstanding offensive player so the likes of John Jerry and Trey Hopkins need to step up while their key defensive men could be defensive tackle Geno Atkins with cornerback Darqueze Dennard another strong candidate although this is going to be an uphill struggle you never know in the NFL on any given Sunday !!

Both teams will then have a bye week [week 9] to recover from their travels following these matches.

Previous visits to London?

NFL International Series Game 3

Los Angeles Rams (NFC West) have been over in London and beaten twice before back in 2012 at Wembley when they were the St Louis Rams and lost heavily 45-7 against the New England Patriots then having become the LA Rams they returned to London playing at Twickenham Stadium in 2016 losing 17-10 against the New York Giants. Their November 2018 game was scheduled to be played between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Los Angeles Rams at Mexico City's Estadio Azteca, but poor field conditions forced the league to move the game to the Rams' home stadium, Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

NFL International Series Game 3

This season's opponents Cincinnati Bengals (AFC North) have been to Wembley only once before back in 2016 when they played out a 27-27 draw with Washington Redskins.

It will be a full house and the crowd will be roaring both teams home. Expect the stadium to be full of shirts from ALL NFL teams. We will aim to keep a brief summary of each quarter as the game progresses, should be a great start to this series of UK fixtures which will surely grow until we have our own regular season NFL franchise. Also ensure you catch all the build up and highlights of matches played earlier on their regular Saturday night NFL Show with Jason Bell and Osi Umenyiora joining in the fun this season - have a great day all.

I'm going for a LA Rams win and over 45 points in the match, also backing the over 21 points score at half time 😁.

1st Quarter;
The opening ceremonies are complete, the anthems sung and now the action can begin, the Rams get us underway in London and kicker Greg Zuerlein sends the ball to the end-zone and means the Bengals start from the 25 yard line. The first play results in a penalty for the Rams by Aaron Donald but their opening drive ends and have to punt it away to the 10yd line. The Rams opening drive quickly takes them from the 10yd line into the Bengals half including a 21yd catch and run from wide receiver Cooper Kupp. Another Kupp catch takes them inside the 20yd line and the Rams look all set to open the scoring, impressive start from a player who was missing injured last season. This opening drive faltered and they have to settle for a 23yd field goal from Greg Zuerlein for an opening 0-3 scoreline.

Bengals at least get moving and take a chance on a 4th and 2yd which is successfully caught by Tyler Boyd on the 15yd line but then Andy Dalton is then sacked on the next play and are moved back to field goal range instead of looking for a touchdown as the opening quarter ends.
2nd Quarter;
We pick up in the second quarter with the Bengals considering another 4th down play, but instead elect for a 28yd field goal from Cincinnati kicker Randy Bullock to level it up in London 3-3. For the Rams next drive it's very much the Cooper Kupp show as he collects two 3rd down receptions before they score the first touchdown of the match Josh Reynolds goes in from 31 yards pass thrown by Jared Goff (extra point successful too). Cincinnati are rewarded for brave calls when they make another 4th down and 1 play this eventually takes them to the red zone once more and Joe Mixon (running back) receives from Andy Dalton to level up the scores in the opening half. The Bengals are not looking like a 0-7 side at all with five minutes left in the opening half I need another score of any type to collect my first wager. Do not have to wait long for that as the star of the match so far Cooper Kupp runs in a 65 yard touchdown pass down the sidelines to make it 10-17 to Rams but there might be still time in this half for more?

H/T Score;
Cincinnati Bengals 10 - 17 Los Angeles Rams.

NFL International London Game 3
3rd Quarter;
The Rams receive the ball for the start of the second half and it's not long before Cooper Kupp continues where he left off in the first half, now has six completed carries for 180 yards and then a massive 40yd throw from Goff finds Kupp with two defenders around him but he catches on the 14yd line and the Rams look set to score again, Todd Gurley runs it in from three yards out and with the extra point it's now 10-24 the opening drive was 10 plays over 75 yards, they are going to be hard to stop now. Andy Dalton keeps the Bengals moving forward and their next drive takes 10 plays over 30 yards before they have to punt it away again, very hard to see them coming back now though still more than five minutes in the third quarter to go no further scoring though and we move to the final quarter of the game.
4th Quarter;
Both the Bengals and the Rams have to punt away their first chance in the final quarter and the game is starting to fade out, unless Cincinnati score the next one this is really over as a contest and alas they cannot make it in fact the final quarter is a bit of damp squib even the final play is ruled as an incomplete pass instead of a touchdown and that's your lot from London this Sunday.

F/T Score;   Cincinnati Bengals [0-8] 10 - 24 Los Angeles Rams [5-3].

The final game in London @Wembley will be on Sunday 3rd November between Houston Texans vs Jacksonville Jaguars.

CHELTENHAM NH OCTOBER MEETING DAY TWO - SATURDAY 26th OCTOBER

Saturday Cheltenham NH Meeting
TWO DAY CHELTENHAM 'SHOWCASE' MEETING
26th OCTOBER 2019

Day Two of the opening season fixture at the home of NH racing, yes the wait is finally over as the days begin to get shorter and the crisp mornings return, so what will Saturday bring us with the many already looking ahead to March and the Festival itself, what clues will this weekend give us. Coverage will be on ITV during the afternoon, after we've had the rugby on earlier, so a full day of sporting action to enjoy.
With jockeys, trainers, owners and racegoers alike making their season debut at The Showcase meeting, it is like Christmas has come a few months early as the famous gates open on for day two on Saturday 26th October and we are set fair for another extraordinary season.

We will get underway on Saturday at 2pm with a Handicap Chase over 3m 1f+ and should conclude around 5:30pm with a NH Flat race over 2m.

2:00 The ‘Matchbook Betting Exchange’ Handicap Steeple Chase (Class 2)
3m 1f [20 runners]

The opeing event on Saturday has a field of twenty, will be run at a decent pace and could go to any of them, THE YOUNG MASTER [Non Runner] goes well here, also best when first time out too while Dan Skelton runs three of his the best of which appears to be top weight COBRA DE MAI
[Non Runner] with Harry Skelton booked to ride. At a decent price MINDSMADEUP also makes plenty of appeal in a wide open race.

Winner - THE CONDITIONAL 14/1.

2:35 The Masterson Holdings Hurdle Race (Class 2)
2m ½f [9 runners]

Good quality 4yo hurdle event up next for us to review, Paul Nicholls always to be feared on the Saturday and he has QUEL DESTIN [WON 7/2] a five time winner last season including here should be well schooled to start his 4yo campaign and support in the betting would enhance that.

Danger comes from the likes of TORPILLO the Nigel Twiston-Davies has already shown his well being winning first time up and has top connections too.

Winner - QUEL DESTIN 7/2.

3:10 The Randox Health Handicap Steeple Chase (Class 2)
2m [11 runners]
.
A very open contest now where they go 5/1 the field and that market is headed by McGROARTY for trainer Dr Richard Newland, won his last three, will certainly be popular. Paul Nicholls runs both CAPELAND a three time winner last season but only eighth in the JLT Novices Chase here at the festival, and also runs BRELAN D'AS. .

Winner -  SAINT CALVADOS 5/2f.

3:45 The Pertemps Network Handicap Hurdle Race (Class 2)
3m [13 runners]

The usually reliable SYKES was unfortunate not to win this race last year and clearly likes the course so seems to have another outstanding chance to shine, while the 6yo Scottish raider AYE RIGHT  [Non Runner] travels south on the back of two wins with Richard Johnson in the saddle who again has been booked to ride.

The bottom weight NEVERBEEN TO PARIS gets all the weight allowances going as a 4yo and is fit from a summer campaign while Bryony Frost in the saddle is also a plus.

Winner - TOBEFAIR 8/1.

4:20 The Randox Health Novices’ Hurdle Race (Class 2)
3m [5 runners]

Just the five runners for this Novice Hurdle and a race where I expect a strong run from THE BUTCHER SAID has won last four contests and up 21lb as a result but the run might not come to an end just yet and three miles should be within this 6yo's grasp. The Irish challenger MACGILONEY could be the one to give the selection most to think about and has had a busy summer campaign with regular wins, probably not come here for the weather.

Winner - RAMSES DE TEILLEE 8/11f .

4:55 The Matchbook Best Value Betting Exchange Novices’ Steeple Chase (Class 2)
2m 4f [9 runners]

SECRET INVESTOR
[Non Runner] represents a major player from a top yard while the small race WHATMORE won at Market Rasen at least shows he's in form and fit to run another sound race for Henry Daly.

Winner - SLATE HOUSE 3/1.

5:30 The Royal Gloucestershire Hussars Standard Open NH Flat Race (Class 2)
2m ½f [20 runners]

Our finale here is a bumper, not usually a race I'd be that interested in but with the big yards sending in the likes of THE NEWEST ONE and TIME FLIES BY [WON 13/2] the future might be clearer once these go over hurdles. For me a race to watch maybe take a few notes but not a betting proposition yet.

Winner - TIME FLIES BY 13/2.

That's all for this meeting but the racing comes around quickly and we will be back here at Cheltenham in about three weeks for their November 'Countryside' meeting which starts on Friday 15th November and also includes the Bet Victor Gold Cup on the Saturday and a family themed day on the Sunday with the Greatwood Hurdle the feature.

CHELTENHAM NH OCTOBER MEETING DAY ONE - FRIDAY 25th OCTOBER

Cheltenham Racecourse

TWO DAY CHELTENHAM MEETING
FRIDAY 25th OCTOBER 2019
The wait is finally over as the days begin to get shorter and the crisp mornings return, it can only mean one thing – Cheltenham is back. The thundering of hooves and cheers from the crowd will return to The Jockey Club’s world class sporting venue on Friday 25th and Saturday 26th October to kick start another season of extraordinary moments.

As well as two days of quality action on the track, this year The Centaur welcomes Cheltober Fest for the first time. A Cheltenham twist on the ever-popular Oktoberfest, with live music from The Bierkeller Boys before and after racing. The buzz around the course as the gates open for the first meeting of the season is like no other day. Familiar faces bumping into one another, the local community feeling like normality has been resumed as they had back to the Home of Jump Racing. The Cheltenham regulars travel from afar to return to place that they have missed all summer long, as racing knuckles down and we prepare for what lies ahead.
Cheltenham October Meeting 2019
With jockeys, trainers, owners and racegoers alike making their season debut at The Showcase meeting, it is like Christmas has come a few months early as the famous gates open on Friday 25th and Saturday 26th October for another extraordinary season. So for this meeting we intend to look through the card and pick out one or two interesting selections. Gates will open at midday, the opening race, The Ballymore Novices hurdle, is scheduled for 2pm and the final race for conditional jockey's should be off (low sun permitting) around 5:30pm. Hopefully we'll have a fun and profitable NH Season.

2:00 The Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle Race (Class 2)
2m 5f  [8 runners]
Our opener features an Irish raider and likely market leader in BRAID BLUE from Gordon Elliott, ridden by champion jockey Richard Johnson sure to be popular having already won three on the trot and the top Irish trainer regularly sends good novices over to Perth. Another Irish raider is DOCTOR DUFFY who will love the soft going looks to be the one to give Braid Blue most to think about. The home challenge is headed by NO HIDDEN CHARGES who was 1/8f when winning a small novice event at Newton Abbot, along with Colin Tizzard's L'AIR DU VENT although this is his debut over hurdles in the UK having taken a bumper at Bangor previously but the yards inmates are to be taken very seriously and the trainer wouldn't send this to Cheltenham without a good showing back at home.

Winner - CHAMPAGNE WELL 13/8f.

2:35 The squareintheair.com Novices’ Steeple Chase (Class 2)
2m  [4 runners]
Just the four here for the Novices Chase, headed by CAIUS MARCIUS no not the Roman general but Nicky Richards 8yo and while might be a little late to the chasing ranks might go well with five runs in the summer and four wins showing he's no slouch does have to give 8lb to the other three though.

AL DANCER for Nigel Twiston Davies could go off favourite while support for the Paul Nicholls GETAWAY TRUMP would not be a surprise. NOT THAT FULSE makes up the foursome but doesn't appear yet and might need more time.

Winner - AL DANCER 10/11f.

3:10 The Two Farmers Crisps Handicap Hurdle Race (Class 3)
2m 5f  [19 runners]
The first handicap of the afternoon and much more competitive now with a field of 19 runners, top weight is GOLAN FORTUNE who we've not seen over jumps for a couple of seasons and the betting market is headed by both  SMARTY WILD and THE BIG GALLOPER at around 4/1.

DUKE STREET [WON 9/1] is another that hasn't been seen much on the racecourse in the past couple of years however did WIN both outings and goes well fresh wouldn't be out of place here again today, at a massive price is the Dan Skelton trained MISTER UNIVERSUM (33/1) who might not be the best handicapped but hails from a yard that can spring a surprise now and again and the going might be key.

Winner - DUKE STREET 9/1.

3:45 The ‘Matchbook Most Trusted Betting Exchange Novices' Steeple Chase (Class 2)
3m ½f  [8 runners]
Another novice chase, where the pair of MINELLA WARRIOR (Kim Bailey) and PRESENT RANGER (Dan Skelton) appear to represent value odds against the field and hopefully all eight will stand their ground so we can have the place market for these two.

While the top one DINONS is respected from Ireland the combination of soft/heavy going plus three miles and having to concede 8lbs might be his undoing, though of course he's encountered heavy ground over in Ireland.

Winner - MULCAHYS HILL 12/1.

4:20 The Foundation Developments Ltd  Maiden Hurdle Race (Class 3)
2m ½f  [12 runners]
A maiden hurdles is up next and where Nicky Henderson turns out the interesting FRED who was placed in good races over in France and should be well schooled for his British debut, Paul Nicholls has another ex French inmate with CAP DU MATHAN while Phillip Hobbs has STORM FORCE BEN who looks a massive price at 40/1 and will be interesting to see how that one takes to hurdles with Richard Johnson doing the steering.

Winner - HEAVEN HELP US 33/1.

4:55 The Ryman Stationery Cheltenham Business Club Amateur Riders’ Handicap Chase (Class 3)
3m 1f  [13 runners]
The longest race of this afternoons meeting and the Amateur riders step up, always pays to go with one that has plenty of experience especially here at Cheltenham which leads us first of all to Sam Waley-Cohen who rides DOING FINE this 11yo won last time up and needs a strong gallop which he should get here. While the horse that the previous selection beat last time out PLANTAGENET (ridden by Miss Gina Andrewsis consistent might even improve a little for that run and is also considered against the field in a race that doesn't really appeal as a betting medium.

Winner - PETITE POWER 12/1.

5:30 The ‘Matchbook Betting Exchange Podcast’ Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle Race (Class 3)
2m ½f  [13 runners]
Our finale is for the conditional jockeys now, and a field of thirteen declared overnight our first interest is OAKLEY out of the Phillip Hobbs yard he usually can be relied to retain a decent conditional and the horse himself is in great form too. BENNY'S BRIDGE [WON 5/2f] has a 3lb claimer on board suggesting they have ability and experience is also a course winner back in January which is in his favour.

Winner - BENNY'S BRIDGE 5/2f.

Hope you have enjoyed the day, will update results here later when we can throughout the afternoon and we'll also have the second day details published for Saturday soon.

KEMPTON PARK RACES 2019 -- WEDNESDAY NIGHTS #26 23rd October

KEMPTON PARK RACES 2019 -- WEDNESDAY NIGHTS

Coming down to the final few months of this annual theme, was hopeful of a more productive second half to the year but we struggling a little. Still time though till we end 2019.

We continue into October and the sporting action continues thick and fast, England and Wales are through to their semi finals in the rugby world cup following wins at the weekend, and we had another successful win in the football as AFC Wimbledon beat Portsmouth 1-0 at home a late winner from my man Terell Thomas (we sponsor his shirt) yet we are still in the drop zone sadly but at least the mood and on field position has improved. News breaks on Sunday night that the Dons have parted company with head coach Wally Downs though not a surprise give recent events off the pitch and he's serving a four week suspension by the FA, wish him well in the future, but for now we continue under Glyn Hodges. A statement on the club website read: "Wally leaves on mutually agreed terms and with our sincerest gratitude for his time with the club, especially his invaluable contribution last season."

Let us move onward with this our twenty sixth Wednesday night of 2019, and will continue to focus on the handicap contests for each Wednesday evening meeting though we will also occasionally include a feature listed or conditions event too if there is one available. Keeping records of our endeavours to a 1 point level stake at SP, naturally we will personally be looking to get better odds than this but for the purpose of these results here we simply record SP returns only.
Following our last meeting the deficit is currently on -50.32 points to SP returns overall. We continue to battle hard to reduce this and thankfully there is still plenty of time to get this back on track.

Kempton Park Racecourse
Throughout the year we will keep up with our occasional lay opportunities of anticipated short priced favourites too. Naturally we will keep these results separately from the handicap figures we have been fairly successful with our selections so far and last meeting we managed to get another favourite beat so we are now 29/42 (69%+) we will continue with this through 2019.

This Wednesday will be meeting number twenty six for the 2019 AW season and we are expecting an eight race card tonight and we have three handicaps plus the 6f 2yo nursery race to review which should keep us plenty busy enough. The action which will now commence at 16:40 with a 5f handicap contest and tonight's card ends around about 20:10 with our final handicap contest for the sprinters over six furlongs.

Here's a link to this Wednesday's race card; RACECARD

Going and Weather -- The going on the polytrack surface is described as 'standard to slow' and the current weather forecast for this Wednesday is for a lot of cloudy weather with a chill in the air so wrap up warm and more than a fair chance of showers so keep safe in the bars the best we expect the temperature to reach is around 14C by the time the meeting gets underway.

Here are our handicap selections for tonight;

16:40 -- 5f Handicap.
Ten horses declared for our opening handicap tonight, a low level sprint over the minimum trip, headed by KATHERINE PLACE [2nd 9/2] a 4yo course and distance winner albeit in a class seven event this isn't going to take a lot of winning and she's at least in form. Carrying a similar burden is KNOCKOUT BLOW [4th 11/2] anther 4yo course and distance winner as a 2yo and about five times the price of the other was rated in the high 70s now down to a mark of 54.

Support for SPOT LITE [8th 9/2] would be interesting has been placed plenty of times, might be able to find a small race like this one day and worth a place bet at the very least if you can.

17:40 -- 6f Nursery Handicap (2yo).
The 2yo nursery has attracted a field of twelve, headed by Magical Force who looks one to oppose here. SIMPLY SUSAN [4th 4/1] [Eve Johnson Houghton] has been placed on three from four races so far and shouldn't be far away while Richard Hannon runs two NEW JACK SWING and LOCO DEMPSEY who would both be expected to run well here but I want to be on the bottom one SERIOUS JOCKIN [8th 25/1] (no G) from Mick Channon and gets all the weight allowance here and has been runner up albeit in a seller hence a big price.

19:40 -- 7f Fillies Handicap.
A field of eleven fillies headed by LADY OF ARAN her course and distance win was two years ago and we'll oppose off this weight tonight. OCTAVE [7th 16/1] is dropping back to an interesting mark now and Mark Johnston doesn't mess around when sending his horses south, ran well at Newmarket when last seen in June and that was a better race too.

The four year old CRYSTAL CASQUE [10th 9/2] is clearly in good order right now and Rod Millman's inmate has won her last two at Sandown and here and with normal improvement can make it a hat trick.

20:10 -- 6f Handicap.
The finale is tricky to resolve although the obvious one is the top weight Penarth Pier who won last time out but doesn't look the type to back that up, however finding the one to beat her is hard. Will take a chance on the Ollie Pears pair of ROARING RORY [5th 14/1] / BILLYOAKES [7th 16/1] both have shown signs of encouragement in recent runs and might not be far away tonight.
