The calm before the storm that is Cheltenham 2014

Just about 48 hours now till this seasons big national hunt festival and if you can't wait to get your fix at least you can enjoy the likes of Plumpton, Stratford and Taunton on Monday afternoon.

A few words of caution before Tuesday's Supreme Novices Hurdle (1.30pm 11th March).

If you are going to Cheltenham, leave early. get there as early as you can as there is plenty to see and do before racing and if you aren't lucky enough to be in hospitality your queue for the bar will be 100 deep if you wait too long.

If you going in a group arrange a meeting point as you will at some point be split up. suggest it's somewhere that won't already be populated by the 30000 other racegoers. I suggest the 1f marker pole, or something clearly marked / signposted. This is particularly important if you taking youngsters with you.

Don't expect your mobile phone to work, Ok it might do but have you tried to make a call with 1000s of others around you? The signal was never that great in Gloucestershire and with the racecourse being at the foot of a hill black-spots are the norm.

If you using a smartphone for betting etc then make sure it's FULLY charged and if you have one take a spare charged battery (I always find that the phone packs up by race 4 if you using it heavily and you might want it for getting home or celebrating your big win in the pub) !!

If you do win a bit, be nice and drop a couple of quid to the good people of St John Ambulance on your way out of the course, they usually around or you can make a donation online. Karma will follow you and they do a great job both at the races and elsewhere, they rely on donations to survive and Every Little Helps as I once told Tesco's.

But above all else, HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY / WEEK I wish you well and hope you find as many winners as I do.
