BARNEY CURLEY SPANKS THE BOOKIES JAN 2014.

JAN 22nd 2014. And Barney Curley the legendary bookie basher is at it again.

Been some amazing results today and it's all down to the planning of one man ... Raise your hat to Mr Barney Curley.

The four horses involved are;

EYE OF THE TIGER
SEVEN SUMMITS

INDUS VALLEY
LOW KEY

Though all are in different ownership the can be connected back to Mr Curley in some shape or form. None are currently trained by him as he no longer holds a trainers license but they've either previously been in his care or in the case of LOW KEY are trained by his former assistant trainer John Butler.  they used to be in his charge and have been off the course for some years in a few cases.

Those that used to be in his charge have been off the course for some years and the result being that their handicap marks have drastically come down (from a RPR figure of 112 down to 54 in the case of EYE OF THE TIGER who was a Group 2 winner in Germany). Paddy Power report a possible loss of £1m if the fourth horse (Low Key*) comes in to complete the acca.   (*which it did). And I doubt they are alone in this spectacular but not unique Betting Coup.

I'm sure it'll be all in his next book and goes some way to making up for a similar gamble a few years back which although went down with one horse getting beat yet still costing the bookies over £600k.

And the only sad thing about all this ... I wasn't on !!

HOW IS YOUR JANUARY TREATING YOU SO FAR?

2014 has kicked off and it's been raining every day. If your not under a foot of water yet ... don't worry you soon will be.

And I thought it was St Swithin's Day [15th July] that thereafter threatened us with the promise of 40 days of rain.

I hear that Thames Water still have a hosepipe ban though. ;O)

Racing at ASCOT today for me and I hope that we see another big run from BOURNE in the 2.25 race. A course specialist and dropped to a good handicap mark.

My team WIMBLEDON travel to the league leaders Scunthorpe and are back able at 4/1 to gain an upset there. [Drew 0-0 with the leaders, that's a worthy point for us towards staying up]

Will leave you with a football treble;

HULL to beat a poor Norwich side at 2/1
BURNLEY to defeat Sheff Wed at 4/5
BRENTFORD to beat Walsall at 7/5
[treble pays about 12/1]

And the least said about the above the better ahem !!
