BOXING DAY GONE

SO NO CHANCES OF KAUTO STAR WINNING THIS YEARS KING GEORGE WITH THE KEMPTON FIXTURES BEING LOST TO THE SNOW AND FROST. NOW FACING THE PROSPECT OF TWO KING GEORGES IN ONE YEAR IF THEY MANAGE TO GET THE NEXT KEMPTON MEETING ON IN JAN THEY CAN REARRANGE THE BIG RACE FOR THEN.

ENJOY YOUR WEEK, EXPECTING MORE SNOW DURING TUES BUT WE SHOULD HAVE WRAPPED UP THE ASHES BY THEN SO THAT'S SOMETHING.

New Start for 2011 and well done to the Champ ...

WELL DONE AP McCOY.
2010 BBC TV SPORTS PERSONALITY OF THE YEAR

With the weather claiming most of the racing fixtures for the foreseeable future this is possibly the final blog for 2010, between now and new year we'll be spending quality time with the family and looking forward to the Year ahead.

For 2011 the plan will be to give a near daily update featuring a racing NAP and LAY for the day as well as anything else that takes our fancy.

A running profit/loss will be returned to SP and selections will be awarded a points value between 1-5 based on confidence. A Max Lay will therefore be a 5 Point Lay, and at odds of say 2/1 would give us a possible Win 5 points or Lose 10 points depending on the outcome. We'll be aiming to get at false favourites, something that went quite well in trials on my other site http://www.daisyracing.co.uk/racinghome.htm

MORE SNOW ....

COMPLETELY WHITE THIS MORNING WHEN I LOOKED OUT TODAY SO ANY IDEAS OF GOING SHOPPING, RACING OR FOOTBALL WENT ASTRAY.

BY THIS AFTERNOON A COUPLE OF PEOPLE HAVE STARTED TO BUILD AN IGLOO
[PICS TO FOLLOW]

I RECKON IF THEY WORK IT RIGHT THEY CAN RENT IT OUT TO A FAMILY OF IMMIGRANTS BY MONDAY MORNING.

Friday 17 December 2010

FRIDAY AND ASCOT GETS CALLED OFF 10 MINS AFTER I ARRIVE.

GREAT, NOT FOR THE FIRST TIME THIS YEAR I HAVE A DAY OFF COMPLETELY RUINED BY THE WEATHER. LOOKED OK THIS MORNING AND HEADED OUT FOR AN EARLY START, ARRIVING AT ASCOT FOR 11AM THE FIRST RACE KICKING OFF AT 11.50.

WITHIN A SHORT WHILE I AM HEARING THAT THEY HAD ONLY JUST BEEN INSPECTING THE COURSE AND IT WAS OFF. PROMPTING AN EARLY CLOSURE OF THE BARS SO I COULDN'T EVEN GET A DRINK IN BEFORE GOING BACK TO THE STATION.

APPRECIATE IT WASN'T WARM BUT FANCY LEAVING IT SO LATE, IF YOU ARE UNLIKELY TO RACE CALL IT OFF BY 9AM AND HAVE DONE WITH IT, AT LEAST WE WILL HAVE BEEN ABLE TO DO SOMETHING ELSE WITH OUR DAY.

HEADED HOME BY MIDDAY ONLY TO GET CAUGHT UP IN A MINI BLIZZARD SO REST OF THE DAY CHILLED OUT LITERALLY AT HOME.

CANNOT SEE ASCOT GOING AHEAD TOMORROW WITH THE TEMPS NOT GETTING ABOVE FREEZING FOR A WHILE. [INDEED AS I WRITE THIS IT HAS BEEN CALLED OFF]

HOPE YOU ALL KEEP WARM AND FIND SOMETHING TO DO WITH YOUR FINAL WEEK BEFORE XMAS. DAISY

Sunday 12 December 2010

ABSENCE

BEEN A BIT BUSY ELSEWHERE THIS PAST MONTH, THE NEW JOB GOING WELL AND INCLUDES SOME TRIPS TO DUBLIN SO MORE ON THEM LATER WHEN I MAKE ANOTHER VISIT IN JAN.

LEADING UP TO XMAS THE RACING HAS HAD TO TAKE A LITTLE BIT OF A BACK SEAT TOO WITH THE WEATHER PLAYING IT'S PART. AM OFF OVER XMAS/NEW YEAR SO MIGHT SEE IF I CAN MAKE A TRIP TO KEMPTON PARK AS IT'S STILL THE LOCAL TRACK.

MAKING SOME NEW PLANS FOR 2011, WITH THE INTENTION OF GETTING AWAY SOMEWHERE FOR A BREAK JUST AFTER EASTER. NOT HAD A PROPER HOLIDAY FOR A GOOD FEW YEARS, ANY SUGGESTIONS WHERE TO GO? WELL YORK IS HIGH ON THE LIST OR MIGHT GO BACK TO NEWCASTLE MAYBE CATCH SOME RACING UP NORTH WHILE I AM THERE.

HAVE A GREAT WEEK ALL
GET ALL YOU NEED IN FOR XMAS AND ENJOY.

FA CUP REPLAYS TUES

FA CUP REPLAYS ARE THE FOCUS FOR US THIS WEEK, ESPECIALLY WITH THE DONS PLAYING EBBSFLEET ON THURSDAY LIVE ON TV (ALBEIT ON ESPN).

BEFORE THEN WE'LL KNOW WHO OUR POTENTIAL OPPONANTS ARE AND MOST OF US ARE PRAYING THAT STEVENAGE CAN SLAY THE MK FRANCHISE BEAST TONIGHT AND PREVENT THAT AWFUL SCENARIO OF A HOME GAME AGAINST THEM TAKING PLACE. NATURALLY WE KNOW THAT IT'S A TOUGH ASK AGAINST EBBSFLEET ANYWAY SO NOTHING IS BEING TAKEN FOR GRANTED I CAN ASSURE YOU.

GENERALLY THE BIGGER CLUBS TEND TO WIN THE REPLAYS WHEN THEY ARE INTIALLY HELD TO A DRAW BY SO CALLED LESSER TEAMS, TONIGHT WE HAVE A FEW GAMES LIKE THAT, BRIGHTON SHOULD SEE OFF WOKING, CHARLTON THE SAME WITH BARNET, YET I STILL FEEL THAT THERE IS A SURPRISE TO BE HAD SOMEWHERE AND MAYBE IT'S LUTON V CORBY, A 1-1 DRAW LAST TIME WHERE CORBY TOOK THE LEAD MAYBE THEY CAN SURPRISE AGAIN. AFTER ALL LUTON ARE JUST ANOTHER CONFERENCE SIDE NOW DESPITE THE PROUD NAME [CUE A 5-0 BEASTING BY THE HATTERS].

Sunday 14 November 2010

WELL DONE SEBASTIAN

VETTEL WINS THE GRAND PRIX AND WITH IT THE F1 TITLE, NEVER ONCE LED THE CHAMPIONSHIP ALL SEASON  UNTIL TODAY. NICE TO SEE FERNANDO ALONSO BEING SO GRACIOUS IN DEFEAT (NOT) GLAD HE GOT BEAT JUST A SHAME NEITHER OF THE McLAREN TEAM COULD MAKE IT.

Saturday 13 November 2010

THIS WEEK ...

HELLO ALL

JUST GETTING OVER LAST WEEKS CUP BORE 0-0
DRAW WITH EBBSFLEET RUINED BY THE REFEREE, AND THE CHANCES OF US WINNING THE REPLAY NEXT THURSDAY DON'T LOOK GREAT FOLLOWING TODAYS POOR 2-0 DEFEAT BY BARROW.

BUT ALL THAT HAS PASSED INTO THE DISTANT MEMORY ALREADY AS OF LAST SUNDAY THERE'S ONLY ONE THOUGHT ON EVERYONE'S MINDS AND THAT'S THE RESULT OF THE 2ND ROUND DRAW WHICH GIVES POTENTIAL FOR AFC WIMBLEDON TO FACE MK FRANCHISE CHEATING CLUB STEALER'S FC ASSUMING OF COURSE THAT BOTH HAVE REPLAYS TO GET THROUGH AGAINST EBBSLFEET AND STAVENAGE BEFORE THAT CAN ACTUALLY TAKE PLACE.

AHH BUT AT LEAST WE'RE AT HOME?
YEAH BUT DO WE WANT "THEM" COMING TO OUR PLACE (AND PROBABLY WINNING - THEY ARE TWO LEAGUES ABOVE WITH FULL TIME PRO'S AFTER ALL). PLUS BEING THE FA CUP IT MEANS THAT THE PROFITS ARE SHARED SO DO WE WANT THEM TO PROFIT FROM OUR CLUB (AGAIN) OF COURSE NOT. THAT AND THE FACT IT'S ON TV IT GETS WORSE. I REALLY HOPE STEVENAGE DO THE BUSINESS NEXT WEEK, FAILING THAT I HAVE NO PROBLEMS WITH EBBSFLEET WINNING.

IT WILL STILL BE ABOUT THEM AND WHAT HAPPENED 8 YEARS AGO," IT WAS WRONG THEN AND IT'S STILL WRONG NOW ". IS ONE OF THE STATEMENTS THAT APPEARS ON OUR CLUBS OFFICIAL SITE AND I AGREE TOTALLY WITH THAT STATEMENT.

CHELTENHAM THIS WEEKEND, THE 3 DAY PADDY POWER GOLD CUP MEETING STARTED FRIDAY AND WE'LL COVER THE SAT/SUN
ON OUR RACING PAGES [WWW.BIGTEDONLINE.COM/RACING.HTM]

SAT
NAP -    WAYWARD PRINCE (WON 9/4F)
LONGSHOT -    DANCING TORNADO (Adv 25/1) (2nd 20/1)
LAY -     TITAN DE SARTI (LOST 11/4)

SUN
NAP -     LOOSEN MY LOAD
LONGSHOT -     SURE JOSIE SURE

FA CUP 1ST ROUND DRAW

AFTER A BATTLING 1-0 WIN OVER BASINGSTOKE YESTERDAY THE DONS WILL NOW FACE EBBSFLEET AT KINGSMEADOW IN THE FA CUP FIRST ROUND PROPER.

THIS REPRESENTS THE 3rd SEASON RUNNING THAT WIMBLEDON HAVE REACHED THE 1st ROUND ONLY TO FALL AT THE HANDS OF LEAGUE OPPOSITION, THIS DRAW GIVES THE DONS A REALISTIC CHANCE OF MAKING IT TO ROUND 2 FOR THE FIRST TIME UNDER THE "AFC" BANNER.

FULL 1ST ROUND DRAW CAN BE FOUND ON THE FA SITE HERE 1st Round Draw.

FEW DAYS IN DUBLIN

The new career has meant a chance to travel (not just up to Hammersmith) but with the main office in Dublin we expect to be off to Ireland on a frequent basis throughout the year.

So a nice early 5am start on Thursday, catching buses up to a busy Heathrow T1 and arrived with plenty of time for our flight.

At least we got away on time and despite a bumpy flight arrived to find Dublin in daylight and not raining for once. Had to wait a little while for my colleague Fabrizio and catch our taxi into the port area which looked similar to Queens' Square Bristol, lots of nice town houses that probably host Accountants or Lawyers but also included our companies main office.

The day was really informative and useful for me being only my 2nd week there, met everyone and struggled to remember all the names being shot my way. Thankfully found a telephone list and started building up a picture of who sat where. Took a short stroll around the redeveloped canal area for lunch, and look at work projects and background of PINS V3.3 & V4.

Stopping overnight locally in the Grand Canal Hotel and need to just crash and relax. Went for a walk around to find a local bar, but ended up back at the hotel for a bite to eat and crashed out in the room.

FRIDAY
After a great nights sleep, woke up nice and relaxed, and ready for breakfast!!

Makes a nice change to shower, eat and relax with only a few mins walk required to get to the office in time for another long day, beats the crowded trains and tubes anyway.

Enjoyed the day, was able to chat with a few people about the expectations of the projects in front of me, have a look at some of the other ranges of products that I should be able to work on next week. Taken back a cut of code with me for Monday, as well as looking at a few online Web based products to help with the testing of PINS.

Got away just after 4pm off to the Airport, and a delayed flight home which meant getting in after 9.30pm. Will enjoy another good night sleep this weekend.

Lets see how the next week goes...

Monday 11 October 2010

FOOTBALL AND STUFF

SO AS ENGLAND KICK OFF ON ANOTHER ROUND OF INTERNATIONAL FOOTBALL AGAINST MONTENEGRO ON TUESDAY NIGHT WE PREPARE OURSELVES FOR THE ENEVITABLE MEDIA HYPE MACHINE TO KICK IN ONCE WE BEGIN TO LOOK LIKE QUALIFING WITHOUT MUCH FUSS (AND WE SHOULD REALLY AS THERE ARE NO DECENT OPPONANTS IN OUR GROUP, EH WALES.)

DEJA VU

SURELY IT WASN'T THAT LONG AGO THAT WE WERE CERTAIN WORLD CUP WINNERS, WHEN WILL PEOPLE LEARN THAT THE MEDIA IS JUST THERE TO SELL PAPERS AND NOTHING MORE.

ALL WE CAN HOPE FOR IS TO QUALIFY AND GET A GROUP WITH FRANCE, ICELAND AND TURKEY IN IT PERHAPS, EVEN THEN WE'LL STILL GO OUT AS SOON AS THE GERMANS OR SPAIN COME INTO VIEW.

I'M GLAD I SUPPORT A DECENT NON LEAGUE TEAM, AND WILL SETTLE FOR A RUN IN THE FA CUP ... FOURTH QUALIFYING ROUND IN A COUPLE OF WEEKS AND THE DONS ARE AWAY TO BASINGSTOKE. A TIE WE SHOULD WIN AND THEN WE AWAIT THE 1ST ROUND DRAW. (AND MORE HYPE ABOUT DRAWING THE MK SCUM TOO NO DOUBT).

AWAY FROM THE FOOTBALL THOUGH, THIS WEEK IS A BUSY ONE FOR WORK AND HOME, PLUS I MAKE MY FIRST TRIP OUT TO DUBLIN TO SEE THE REST OF THE COMPANY. (OF COURSE BEEN TO DUBLIN BEFORE SILLY, I MEAN FOR WORK).

STAYING CLOSE TO THE NEW LANSDOWNE ROAD STADIUM (AVIVA STADIUM AS IT'S NOW KNOWN) SHOULD BE A FEW BITS TO GO AND SEE.

HAVE A GREAT WEEK ALL

Saturday 9 October 2010

FIRST WEEK PASSED OK

FIRST FULL WEEK OF WORK AT HAMMERSMITH, WENT OFF OK EVEN WITH THE TUBE STRIKE AND RAIN ON MONDAY, AM STILL OK WITH THE TRAVELLING. BEEN PLENTY TO DO AND HAMMERSMITH IS A BUSY PLACE WITH LOTS TO SEE AND DO LUNCHTIMES.

A TRIP ON FRIDAY TO THE BRITISH TRANSPORT POLICE TRAINING CENTRE IN HIGHBURY WAS A PLEASANT DAY OUT AND NEXT WEEK OFF OUT TO DUBLIN FOR A FEW DAYS TO MEET THE REST OF THE TEAM.

SO THE WEEKEND LEAVES US WATCHING ASCOT AND THEN SEE HOW AFC WIMBLEDON CAN DO AGAINST WREXHAM.

Sunday 3 October 2010

2nd DAY AT WORK AND A TUBE STRIKE

SURVIVED THE RAIN AND PACKED TUBES ON FRIDAY FOR DAY ONE, THE NEXT TEST IS THE STRIKE THAT WILL STILL BE ON DURING MONDAY.

WORK WAS OK, IT IS A BIG CHANGE TO WHAT I AM USED TO HOWEVER. GOING FROM WORKING IN A LARGE OPEN PLAN OFFICE TO NOW SITTING IN A SMALL ROOM (SMALL THAN MY OWN BEDROOM) WITH ONLY 2 OTHERS FOR COMPANY.

I HOPE IT WILL WORK OUT OK, SHALL HAVE TO LUMP IT FOR A WHILE AND SEE HOW MY TRIP TO DUBLIN GOES. MAYBE THERE WILL BE MORE PEOPLE AVAILABLE TO CONVERSE WITH OR THEY MIGHT EVEN EXPAND THINGS IN THE NEAR FUTURE.

GOD BLESS ME

AND WELL DONE TO WORKFORCE FOR WINNING THE ARC TODAY, NICE.

Sunday 12 September 2010

Still looking for work ... but light at the end of the tunnel.

Been a difficult few months but past few weeks have at least seen an increase in activity and a few interviews, am hopeful that one of these might come good as they've all seemed like excellent companies and to be honest I could do with a break from sitting at home.

Expecting a call about 2 different positions Monday, so while nothing else is happening might take myself off to Brighton Races for the day.

Will update later on the options for the day and a review to follow that too. First race looks open and while I have a soft spot for our old horse REPLICATOR the girls riding both SPRING HORIZON and BOUNCY BOUNCY can be backed at huge prices and one might surprise in the place market so certainly worth a shot in the first race off at 2.00.

ASLAN -- THIS IS ...

These are the hands of a tired man,
This is the old man's shroud,
These are the eyes of the blood crazed tiger...
Staring at the maddening crowd,
This is the face of a teenage mother,
This is the child she bears,
This is the soul of her broken lover,
Searching for the smiles she shared,
These are the feet of the punished pilgrim
And in his book of punished love,
Tou see his eyes,
You see no surprise...
Waiting for a lie that's true.

Everybody hits you with this feeling
Nobody seems to understand
You stop, you look...
You're searching for the meaning
Wasting your life away

These are the dreams of a sleeping father
And in his long lost days,
He sees a child...
He sees his eyes...
Waiting for the price he's paid
These are the tears of a fallen idol,
And in his smile of shattered love,
You see his eyes...
You see no surprise...
You just see lights then realise

Here with you
No one here but you
No one moves but you
Nobody touches like you
You...
Nobody moves like you
But everybody hits you
Everybody knocks you down

These are the feet of a punished pilgrim
And to the book he prays
You see his eyes
You see no surprise
You just see lights then you realise

Bank Holiday Weekend ...

APPARENTLY NEXT MONDAY IS A BANK HOLIDAY, GIVEN THAT I'M STILL OUT OF WORK I FEEL LIKE I'M MISSING OUT ON A DAY OFF AND BELIEVE IT SHOULD BE CARRIED OVER TO WHEN I AM BACK IN WORK. :O))

WOULD GIVE ANYTHING TO HAVE A JOB AT THE MOMENT, IT'S BECOMING VERY DISHEARTENING TO NOT HEAR ANYTHING EACH DAY AND GET SENT EMAILS FROM AGENCIES ABOUT JOBS THAT HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH MY SKILL SETS.

SO ONWARDS AND UPWARDS, ALL BEING WELL SHALL GET AWAY FOR A DAY OR TWO IF I CAN AFFORD TO, CAR RUNNING OK NOW AFTER SOME MAJOR SURGERY AND WILL HAVE TO KEEP THAT ON THE ROAD FOR ANOTHER YEAR ALL BEING WELL.

SO THE WEEK AHEAD LOOKS LIKE THIS

SHERGAR CUP DAY SATURDAY

Not everyone's cup of tea but it'll be a packed crowd again at Ascot with lots of entertainment and music after racing so you shouldn't blame the powers that be for continuing with this as a means to promote racing as an entertainment experience.

I will in attendance as a guest of Betfair and good luck to all taking part.

We start the meeting with a 5f event, the sprint king himself Dandy Nicholls saddles FOL HOLLOW for the UK team, his other horse Buachaill Dona appears to be a non runner allowing the reserve to try his luck.

The 2.45 contest has our NAP selection  YASHRID is a Course and Distance winner here and seeking a hat-trick of wins over 1m 4f, doesn't seem to have finished yet and should be right there under Hayley in this contest all things considered. If 4/1 is available it will be a massive win/place selection for me and is either the making of the day or will see me coming home early (perhaps).

You can see how the rest of the card looks via my main racing pages DAISY RACING.

AUGUST ALREADY ...

Hello
Hope you all enjoying your summer, it's August and that can mean only one thing, the school holidays and everywhere is full of screaming brats.

Had an excellent week at Goodwood and learnt a few things from people there, next year hope to go to GALWAY which is on at the same time all week. Be sure to follow Dermot Weld at that meeting regularly has winners and level stakes profit for the week.

Wednesday see's us visit Brighton for the first day of their three day festival, so we'll pray for the weather and have a fun day. Then I can plan the first of my ASCOT trips, having been awarded Ascot VIP Badges from BETFAIR that cover the 10 fixtures for the rest of 2010. I have a pair of PREMIER admission badges, plus Champagne vouchers which would be a shame to go to waste.

This Saturday marks the first of these dates, and it's the SHERGAR CUP meeting along with an 80's revival concert afterwards which is right up my street. So we'll put up some selections for the weekend after we come back from Brighton.

Have a great week everyone

BACK TO WORK ... the job hunting continues.

HAD TO SKIP THE PAST FEW WEEKS OWING TO REACTIONS TO THE MEDICATION I WAS ON FOR A BLOOD PROBLEM ON MY LEG. FINGERS CROSSED WE'RE ALL DONE NOW SO I CAN CRACK ON WITH LOOKING FOR WORK BEFORE THE MONEY RUNS OUT.

HAD A GOOD WEEKEND THOUGH, AND LAST WEEK HAD A TRIP DOWN TO BRIGHTON TOO, A WALK ROUND THE MARINA AND THEN A RIDE ON THE 100+ YEAR OLD VOLKS ELECTRIC RAILWAY THAT TOOK US FROM THE MARINA END TO THE AQUARIUM CLOSE TO THE BRIGHTON PIER.

IT WAS A BIT OF A RATTLER BUT WELL WORTH THE RIDE TO SAY IT'S BEEN DONE.

AND WHEN WE GOT TO THE PIER, DAISY WAS PLEASED WHAT SHE SAW...

BACK LATER AFTER A WEEK AT GOODWOOD,
TILL THEN HAVE  A GOOD WEEK.

YOU GOT TO HAND IT TO THEM GERMANS...

1-0 up in 3 mins.

Was going to say my 14/1 Ante Post bet on Germany is about to be traded in but think I will wait till the final now. Going to settle down and watch the expected punch up that usually accompanies Argentina when they get beat. No way the Germans going to lose from such a strong start, could have been 2-0 up while I write.

First Monday looking for new job. But it's Royal Ascot week....

Hello

Ok so was made redundant last week finding out the news on Thursday and spent Friday letting it sink in while watching the start of the world cup at my folks.

Now it's Monday and the search is on, but need to be back for the Holland game at lunchtime eh. Plus of course it's Royal Ascot week so lets get that updated on my other sites and enjoy the peace and sunshine for a few days  at least.

Update with the racing news later.

DAY 1 Royal Ascot can be found here ... http://www.daisyracing.co.uk/racinghome.htm

Cheers DAISY

Saturday 12 June 2010

Weekend update completed, England vs USA later of course...

Updated the racing pages for YORK (SAT) and working on the Sunday meeting from SALISBURY.

These can be found via www.bigtedonline/racing.htm

Working at home now having been made redundant on Friday but will have to focus on job hunting, however should have time at home to ensure that updates continue in a timely fashion.

ENGLAND have their first World Cup game of the 2010 campaign and USA will probably make things tough but expect the class to show in the end. A scrappy 1-0 win for the English is the prediction. (which would have happened if it wasn't for a bloody useless West 'aaaaam Goolkeeper twat.)

Thursday 10 June 2010

WORLD CUP FEVER & NOW PLENTY OF TIME TO WATCH IT...

Today has been coming to be fair, was not much of a surprise to be brought down to the company boardroom and be told that we were being sacrificed made redundant.

It hasn't sunk in that after 10 years I am having to go through it all again, CV/s, Agencies and Interviews. Not sure where to start to be honest and might have to take a day or two to let it sink in properly as I have a lot to sort out -- it took us all day to clear out my desk as well as sorting out copying my mails and files back to disc. At least this was much better than leaving CGI, where we were escorted off the premises a few mins after getting the letter and all left a stunned outside before going to the pub waiting for them to open up.

Thanks to all that made it fun for the past 10 years, who knows where we might end up next but lets hope it's soon.

Oh and there's a small football tournament called THE WORLD CUP starting Friday I suppose I've nothing else to do but watch it and have a beer or two.

Have a good weekend everyone.

IT'S DERBY DAY, RIO INJURED AND THE GOLF CLUBS GET AN AIRING

Jan Vermeer is drifting a bit now for the Derby but that's to be expected it got far too short at 7/4, and money always going to come for Frankie and Kieren as well on the day. I really hope that Henry Cecil can have a good day and get that 25th Classic that he was denied in the 1000 Guineas early in the year.

In the opener I do fancy the Queens horse QUICK REACTION but more about that one and the rest of the Epsom card can be found on our racing pages.

Of course the big World Cup news is that Rio Ferdinand is out of the England squad and the captaincy is now in the hands of Steve Gerrard. The thing is this might not be such a bad thing in the end, I mean yeah it's terrible for Rio personally but he's not had the best of seasons and was probably carrying a bit of an injury anyway. Rather we play 100% fit players at all times than play them just because he's "Rio", same goes for the rest of the team. If Rooney isn't fit then we better play Crouch and Defoe as a pair as they clearly click together and we'll have more success with that than a half fit Rooney on his own.

Looking forward to next weekend, don't underestimate the USA either, the opening game could be a draw and a decent result for both sides.

More on the world cup games later next week.

Golf -- went out and shock some cobwebs off the golf clubs earlier, only smack 60 balls on the driving range but good to get a bit of a swing on before lunch and the racing. Must get myself around a course soon ...

EPSOM DERBY FEVER

So now with this years Epsom Derby just 3 days away the news of the injury to St Nicholas Abbey means that our new market leader is JAN VERMEER at 2/1.

As anticipated by us earlier last month he'll be ridden by Johnny Murtagh and the 20/1 ante post bet we have keeps getting better. However not one to be too greedy have laid off a bit of that today ensuring a profit win/lose. Looking through the field though can't say I'm that taken by anything in particular so I doubt I'll have any other bet and just stick with what we have.

Am more interested in the Royal Ascot meeting which is now less than two weeks away...but more on that will follow over the weekend.

--------------------------------------------------------
Kempton Wed evening was fairly successful, Daisy seeing her NAP win at 2/1 and the LAY got beaten into 3rd at 9/4F. It was just a shame the longshot couldn't perform and tailed off a poor 12th at 16/1 but you can't have them all.

DERBY FAV, AND SANDOWN REVIEW

Hello

News this morning that JAN VERMEER is likely to be the pick of stable jockey Johnny Murtagh and out Ante Post selection (see post dated 17.05) is now as short as 5/2F generally with St Nicholas Abbey on the drift and probably going to either miss the race with France a likely alternative.

Having backed it at 20's looking to trade a bit off at 5/2 or thereabouts, a good result already for us and the race still a week away.

--------------------------------------------------------

Last Thursday we attended the Sandown evening meeting which featured two group races and some decent supporting events too.

Wasn't as busy as I expected for the quality of racing on offer, but we had a party of 6 so grabbed some tables and made a "home" for ourselves in the grandstand in good view of the winning line and close enough to the bar !!
[beware, £4 a pint !! Bring more money next time]

The opening race was an open handicap, one that only attracted a bit of place interested on RESURGE (12/1 early, opened 7/1 backed to 11/2) and UNCLE FRED (22/1) who ended up taking the 2nd and 3rd places behind fav JO'BURG who cruised home easily at generous odds of 4/1 and foiled our gamble on the 2nd.

The next race a listed contest over 5f down the middle track was expected to be a stroll for the Richard Hannon trained CAPE TO RIO but it was not to be as the support came for DINKUM DIAMOND who quickened away and won easy. Ruined my placepot in the process as well as many multiples too :O(

Racing improves again as we see the first of the two Group races here with the Group 2 Henry II stakes over 2miles seeing a few horses that had been at Ascot's last meeting that we also attended for the Sagaro Stakes.

AKMAL turned this event into a one horse procession leading all the way and powering on again when challanged by SAPTAPADI. Anyone who had seen the winner struggle at Ascot would be wondering if it was the same horse. We were saved a bit by the place win on the runner up, but winners were avoiding us again today.

Another Group race followed the Group 3 Brigadier Gerard stakes over 1m 2f. Yet another strongly supported favourite getting turned over as GLASS HARMONIUM failed to get in a blow against the winner STOTSFOLD who only really had to worry about TAZEEZ. (another place win for us with that well supported horse).

The fifth event went to the well fancied favourite FALLEN IDOL who just got up to win by the min margin from the outsider RECTIFIER, nothing else getting in much of a blow, the fav coming fast and late and helped us all pick up a decent wedge for the evenings work.

The finale was a race to gather up everything and make ready for our escape, the train back home leaving 10 mins after the last so the delay caused by ORATORY at the start was not welcomed. He was duly withdrawn and the race set up for a simply win for FLORA TREVELYAN who had been well backed all day long and won at 100/30 [+15p R4]

We'd been playing up the place markets on Betfair throughout the evening and going ok, put the balance on DUNN'O to place which he duly did staying on behind the winner to grab 3rd at 11/2 and paying 2.46 on BF (after the deduction for Oratory) was a nice result to go home on.

Glad to say we made it for our train and home in good time for a decent evening all round. Next year we're looking to take in the Brighton meeting during the afternoon and make it back for the evening card again (it's do-able but only just).

Update later for the Bank Holiday weekend.

Thursday 27 May 2010

Thursday, Busy day then Sandown to relax.

Was originally going to Brighton today but a combination of poor weather and lack of decent fields at the Sussex coast venue means we'll wait for another day and instead head to Sandown tonight for their Brigadier Gerard meeting.

Main selections will probably be as such;

6.05 - DUBAI CREST
6.40 - CAPE TO RIO
7.10 - DARLEY SUN [NAP]
7.45 - GLASS HARMONIUM
8.20 - BIG AUDIO [EW]
8.50 - DUNN'O

but when we get there it depends on the weather and a look around the paddock too. Alternatively we give the betting a miss and hit the bars !

ENGLAND vs MEXICO, and Greyhound Derby update.

England play Mexico in a pre-world cup friendly tonight at Wembley stadium. After a week of altitude training for the 30 man squad tonight Fabio can put most of these through their paces and see what formation of Rooney plus A.N. Other will work best until we get beat in the 1/4 finals as always (probably on pens).

The FA Cup players are already rested so that's David James relaxing on the bench along with John Terry, Frank Lampard, Ashley Cole and surprisingly also Joe Cole. [Given that Joe Cole only played 20 mins of the cup final and is an outsider to get in the 23 man squad you would have thought he'd get at least 45 mins?]

Both keepers Rob Green and Joe Hart look set to have 45 mins each, with Green likely to start the match between the sticks. Other subs would probably see Crouch given a turn with Darren Bent, or the plan which has been used in training to play 4-5-1 with Rooney up front and Gerrard supporting in a free role from midfield.

At the very least with Capello he is looking for a Plan B, something missing under Sven (and a Plan A would have been nice under McClaren too).

Looks like it's Crouch starting with Rooney up front and no Lampard in the middle (as I already mentioned) so altered by bet accordingly as I had forgotten about that. D'Oh. Crouch has a great strike rate when playing for England and looks an outstanding bet tonight to score.

Kick off tonight at 8.00
[Pitch cut up rough by 8.10]

Best Bets --
Crouch 1st Goalscorer @ 6/1
England to win 3-0 @ 8/1

Greyhound Derby Update

WESTMEAD SCOLARI 3/1F finished 5th
SLICK ROBERT 6/1 finished 6th

Our Ante post picks both made it though to the first heat of the semi final on Saturday but sadly both eliminated in that heat and failed to make the final. It was a good run while it lasted and not at all bad for the big prices we'd taken.

Maybe next year we'll go one closer.

Greyhound Derby Update.

GREYHOUND DERBY ANTE POST SELECTIONS
SLICK ROBERT @ 50-1 Corals
WESTMEAD SCOLARI @ 25-1 Victor Chandler

Tuesday night saw the 1/4 finals for this years Greyhound Derby and the results saw one of our Ante post selections [WESTMEAD SCOLARI] win his heat at 11/2, while our other selection [SLICK ROBERT] came home 3rd and we'll hope that was quick enough to get into the semi finals.

As a result of these quarter finals the odds on our selections are now;

SLICK ROBERT -- 25s from 50s (best prices quoted)
WESTMEAD SCOLARI -- 10s from 25s (8s or less generally).

Will keep an eye on when the draw is made for the semi's and I just hope that they don't end up both in the same heat. Won't lay off either of them until the final should they get there.

Have a good midweek especially if you made it to Goodwood today.

Monday 17 May 2010

The week ahead, plus Epsom / Wimbledon Derby Ante Post Selections

Busy week, looking forward to a day off and going out on Friday.

Before then there's a lot to take in,
Monday night is Windsor night, where CAPE TO RIO should win the 6.40 conditions event for Richard Hannon. -- updated . It did indeed win but apologies for the price, was 6/4 in the papers.

Later in the week if you can spare the time get yourselves to Brighton (Tuesday) and/or Goodwood (Wednesday) for a couple of good days out midweek, weather due to improve and better than work or being sat around an airport waiting for your flight delayed by a Volcano or the strike.

Less than 3 weeks till Epsom Derby and while the market says its all about Sir Nicholas Abbey still 2/1 doesn't appeal. Have looked around and there is a lot of value to be had if you can shop around. Use a site such as OddsChecker.com if you can and see the difference in depth away from the front few. I have one selection still standing from my Ante Post bets and thats JAN VERMEER who is still 20/1 Blue Sq (only 12/1 elsewhere).

Meanwhile the Greyhound Derby heats are underway and I have two Ante Post advices still going at this stage, prices correct at time of going to post but be quick.

SLICK ROBERT @ 50-1 Corals (33/1 elsewhere)
WESTMEAD SCOLARI @ 25-1 Victor Chandlers

Thats all for today.

Enjoy your week

UNLUCKY FULHAM & YORK'S DANTE STAKES,

Just a moment to dwell on Wednesday nights football and what a great effort Fulham put in against Atletico Madrid. Having fallen 1 down in the first half to a Diego Forlan [32] poach inside the area they battled on and equalised with a well taken goal of their own by Simon Davies [37].

The had the better of the second half where the Spanish side look to sit back a bit more and seemed happier to settle for extra time, when they weren't diving and rolling around that is.

Fair play to the Italian referee who had a really good game and didn't fall for the majority of the Spanish players tactics.

The fairytale was not to be completed sadly and with only 3 mins left of extra time another Forlan goal was enough to break Fulham hearts and hand the old UEFA Cup to Atletico [it is the same old UEFA cup trophy by the way, though not looking as huge as it used to be, I must be getting older].

Still not long till the World Cup eh.

YORK [Day two and the feature event the Dante Stakes off at 2.40]

1.40 -- JOHANNES       [WON 11/1]

2.10 -- MIDDAY          [2nd 15/8]
2.40 -- CHABAL          [Unplaced 7/4]
3.10 -- ACROSTIC       [Unplaced 7/2]
3.45 -- MIDNIGHT MARTINI [NAP]      [2nd 3/1]
4.20 -- WINDWARD ISLANDS          []
4.55 -- TWIST AGAIN                     [Unplaced 3/1]

Found a few winners on Wednesday and couple of place bets went in as well.

Enjoy your Thursday people

HAPPY 40th BIRTHDAY LEE, YORK RACES & GOOD LUCK FULHAM.

Hello
The run of form our racing selections have had lately I really should turn the site into a Laying one only.
Never mind, more on the racing later.

So first up a big warm 40th Birthday hug to my pal Lee, Hope you did everything you said you had on your list of things to do before you reached this landmark. Don't worry it's still a good ride from 40 onwards, you'll enjoy it just as much.

Next we'll look at York and their Dante meeting which kicks off on Wednesday;

1.40 - FORTE DEI MARMI      [4th 9/4]
2.10 - ROCK N ROYAL          [10th 7/1]
2.40 - AVIATE                         [WON 11/4]
3.10 - DONCASTER ROVER [EW]    [4th 14/1]
3.45 - THE FONZ                 [2nd 4/1]
4.20 - BAHCELI [NAP]       [WON 15/8]
4.55 - RIGIDITY                  [2nd 7/1]

And after all that action we'll sit back and enjoy the final of the Europa League, this much laughed at version of a once proud and decent European Competition has been saved this season by the antics of Fulham FC.

So whoever you might support, lets cheer on the cottagers and bring another Euro Trophy back to the home of football.

WELL DONE CHELSEA & BRIGHTON MONDAY

Congratulations to Chelsea winning the League this year and now I hope that Fulham can get their European Cup that their performance deserves this season and that next week's FA Cup can not end up as the dull affair that it's become of late.

It's Brighton on Monday and here's a couple of selections for the meeting;

2.40 MISS JABBA -- IF all eight stand their ground this 20/1 outsider of the field has some form on the course is shouldn't be totally dismissed. Will get on the place market at the very least as betfair will stand the 3 places even with a non runner or two. [Unplaced 33/1]

4.10 INSPIRINA -- Weighted to win races now and also top rated by Adrian Massey's ratings. [2nd 5/1, beaten a length by the fav]

Have a good week.

Final Premiership Games Sun 9th May

Hi,
Mixed week at Chester but very enjoyable and will be back later in the year. The weekend turns our attentions away from racing to the F1 GP in Spain (Mark Webber should win for Red Bull) and the end of this year's Premiership campaign.

Chelsea lead and are at home to Wigan this afternoon, a win guarantees the title regardless of what happens elsewhere. Manchester United have a home fixture with Stoke and need a win plus some assistance from Wigan to make it 4 titles in a row. I fully expect that Chelsea will score early in first half and go onto win 3-0 or more. Drogba to score first (as usual).

All other matters are sorted and so the other games are very much "dead rubbers" with only local pride to play for, or new contracts to earn for many!

Have a good weekend all and we'll see what the following seven days have in store for us later, certainly eyes are focused on Fulham's Europa League final on Wednesday night.
